Avernus nods as no one else claims the oil and slips it into his own belongings with a shrug. "Well, I don't care to open that door," he nods to the other exit from the room, "and deal with that swarm of bugs again. Let's double back to that other door in the dining area and see what we might find there."

The group searches the little rooms again, but find no more hidden doors. Just more dirt, some insect life, and more scraps of garbage that look like they've been here for months.
As you can all tell, I'm back on the road, and it's hard to post during the week while at work, and usually pass out at the hotel when I get there.

Returning out, the group finds a fireplace with glowing coals in it and wood stacked up next to it. There's also old bones stacked up in the wood, as if they are burning bones as well.
Some old blankets make a bed of the remains of an old actual bed that has dry rotted into piles of dust.
There are some clothes scattered around with multiple patches, and several designs, as if someone had scrounged them. They are old and torn in places, and all about the size to fit Kimiko...
Nothing of value is found.

"Hmm. Looks like they were struggling to find enough firewood. The fact that they have a fire at all suggests someone human - or humanoid. But where are they? they must be further on somewhere. Let's search the place."

Finding nothing else, the group continues on to the bend in the corridor. Reaching it, they look around and find another corridor.
There is a door about half-way down the corrdior
There looks like some spiral stairs leading down in a circular room at the end of the corridor

About how long have we been in here, physically? Trying to figure out how long my mage armor has left.

Kimiko moves to the door, and while she admires the carving on it, she fails to spot any traps that might be present.
Fortunately, when she opens the door, there's no traps, as she would have missed them!
Kimiko (and others) find a dark unlit hallway that (those with darkvision) confirm branches into a Y about 20 or 30 feet ahead.

"Who wants to go first? I can't see in here very well..." She creates dancing lights, but doesn't send them too far ahead, just enough to see the 'Y' in the path. "These can light our way, but will warn potential enemies of our presence... "

Xu moves to the Y, and finds stairs going up steeply, rising 20 ft in as many feet. The steps are small, as if made for someone shorter than he. Indeed, Kimiko would find them quite comfortable to climb.
Mincing carefully to the top, Xu finds a door that's been smashed off it's hinges, as if someone were fed up with it and smashed it out of the way. The dust has been disturbed, but it's been quite a while, as more dust has fallen in it's place.
On the other side of the door is a small room with an alcove that once held something, although whatever it is appears to have been looted or moved a long time ago.
A pair of steps lead up to botht he left and right, again, with the short steep steps. Two doors, both bound in glittery metal, stand at the tops of the stairs.
There are marks on the doors, as if someone beat at them for a long time and gave up.

The marks on the metal doors look relatively new, as the marks have not had time to lose their shiny marks to age. They could be as new as this morning, or as old as a year ago, given how dry the air is.

"No telling how long ago the wooden door was smashed, but the metal doors look relatively recent. That suggests two different events, but there is no way to be certain. Let's see if we can open the metal doors and maybe we will find more clues beyond."

There is a trap on the door, it appears to be a very powerful spell trap. She's not sure what spell would get activated, but she thinks it would be a bad day to find out.

"THere's a trap on this door... a magical one... it will set off some kind of spell, and it could be a very powerful one... I don't think I'm up to the job of disabling it... "

Okay, that will work... I'm just a bit too leery of this trap to try to spring it safely. Let's go back."

Kimiko returns to the other door, which has also been knocked off it's hinges, but again, it seems to have been awhile ago. Given the dust all around. However, there's a semi-recent corpse on top of the door this time.
A ratfolk has been chopped into small pieces on top of the door. The body is very rotten, what's left of it. Most of the meat has been seen to by ants and such, judging from the motion on the meat.
The body is somewhere between 3 and 4 months old.
There is a glowing red gem floating in the air across the room from the door.
Looking around the room from the doorway, the statue, which had been shattered in the previous room, is in perfect shape here in the corner.
The statue has black stains on it's front and sword, they look like dried blood.

Avernus hefts his shield after shrugging. "Stay back, all of you. Until we know what we're dealing with at least." With that, the horned tiefling strides over the broken form of the ratfolk and into the chamber beyond, his shield held close and ready.

Avernus moves in, and as he steps over the threshhold, the statue moves with preternatural speed and grace. It's long sword sweeps in an elegant arc toward Avernus!

Avernus's shield catches the blow however, stopping it from hitting his flesh. The shield screeches and sparks fly as the blow hits, peeling some shavings and paint off the shield.
