Mathias reaches into his pouch removing a flask and applies an oil to his hands as he shifts into position.

More ghosts, I prefer less costly undead.

bless weapon applied to hands

Male Halfling Paladin 1 | HP:11/11 | AC: 17, FF: 16, TC: 12 | Fort:3, Ref:1, Will:1 | Init:2, Perc:1

Marcus takes a five foot step away, draws an oil of magic weapon and pours it on his sword.

will save dark form 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
will save dark form 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

The second dark form seems to twist his head right around in a clockwise fashion several times, and then decides to float away through the the wall away from the party Beswaur attack of opportunity here ?

The other being however is not so easily fooled and descends upon the half orc in a twisting writhing fashion
Attack vs Beswaur: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
strength damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Crit confirm vs Beswaur: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
strength confirm damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
this is a touch attack, and thank god it didn't confirm, I saw for a minute there this entire encounter going even worse than last time

1/2orc Warpriest (Champion of the Faith) of Desna 3, HP:24/24, AC:20, Touch:12, Flat Footed:18 F:+5, R:+3, W:+7(extra +2 vs charm compulsion), Init:+2, Perc:+3

I won't take the AoO. I'd rather let it move away so we can concentrate on the one. As soon we attack, the spell will be gone. So it moves away for a round. Then I would assume it comes back for a round after we attack. That should give us 2 rounds to concentrate on this one.

Male Human Monk 3 | HP:12/25 | AC: 15 (19 w/potion), FF: 12 (16 w/potion), TC: 15 (19 w/potion) | Fort:4, Ref:5, Will:7 (+2 vs enchantment) | Init:6, Perc:7

Mathias spins as he steps in lashing out with his hand. The attack if made against a human would be aimed roughly for their eyes to disrupt their vision and set them up for the next attack. As that hand crosses completely across the creatures vision Mathias' right hand strikes from seemingly within his body as his spin ends and the built up tension within his body is allowed to uncoil directly through his fist.

this will be power attack
Punch: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 (no +1 from magic weapon as it is subtracted in power attack)
damage: 1d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 = 10

Can't crit incorporeals =(
.
Marcus, if you aren't going to use your bow with the Ghost Salt arrows, can we say I was planning to use it?

Damn, I forgot all about that.... this is what I get for trying to post when I first get to work without coffee :D oh well he still takes 10 damage to his nonexistent wind pipe

No problem, it's a small Longview though so I don't know how that works.

Marcus steps back and takes a swing at the shadow.

That just gives me a -2 to hit but it won't be 1/2 damage
.
Beswaur steps back and takes a shot at the ghostly form.
bow attack: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 - 2 = 8, if hits bow damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Well carp! It doesn't matter what I'm using if I keep rolling like that.

I'm just looking at the incoporal rules and I don't see a negation of critical damage? I'm sure it's a 3.5 rule but I can't see it here.

In the interests in keeping things moving
crit damage Mathias: 1d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 = 9

Mathias's fist slams into the incorporeal things upper part, and it seems as if holy energy slams into the thing from his knuckles. The thing seems to catch on fire, as if it were paper being burned by a sacred flame. The hold light racing all over it. Seconds later it is gone, vanishing into the air as if it were never there.

Noiselessly the other dark form appears through the wall, this time in front of Mathias
to hit touch ac: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
strength damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Male Human Monk 3 | HP:12/25 | AC: 15 (19 w/potion), FF: 12 (16 w/potion), TC: 15 (19 w/potion) | Fort:4, Ref:5, Will:7 (+2 vs enchantment) | Init:6, Perc:7

OUCH!
Mathias steps back as the creature touches him feeling the strength drain from his body. Flash backs to a nightmare he had as child he grits his teeth and forces himself to face this shadowy demon, unleashing a flurry of blows.

Flurry 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Male Halfling Paladin 1 | HP:11/11 | AC: 17, FF: 16, TC: 12 | Fort:3, Ref:1, Will:1 | Init:2, Perc:1

Can I reach the shadow? If I can:

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Damage: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Male Human Monk 3 | HP:12/25 | AC: 15 (19 w/potion), FF: 12 (16 w/potion), TC: 15 (19 w/potion) | Fort:4, Ref:5, Will:7 (+2 vs enchantment) | Init:6, Perc:7

It seems as if these dice are rigged... we get a decent roll every now and then and fail the rest of the time :D This is so odd considering I normally build a character around combat (our normal DM is a big crawler) so I always take the approach that if you can't hit you can't do anything and this character I built around the story instead which means... I can miss /gasp*

1/2orc Warpriest (Champion of the Faith) of Desna 3, HP:24/24, AC:20, Touch:12, Flat Footed:18 F:+5, R:+3, W:+7(extra +2 vs charm compulsion), Init:+2, Perc:+3

In his frustration over the continual misses and his weakened condition, Beswaur drops the bow and uses his wand.
touch attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11, if hits CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 will save for half.

Emergencies at work, bot me if needed.

yeah nobody's dice have done anything close to average in the 2 month's we've been at this. I feel quite bad.

Also everyone can try to hit this thing. However nobody did.

Dark Form 2 - AC15, Touch 15, Incorporeal, HP19

Blows rain down on the incorporal form but it twist its way around them like smoke, then launches itself again at Mathias
To Hit Mathias: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Strength Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

But seems to pass somewhat harmlessly through him.

Male Halfling Paladin 1 | HP:11/11 | AC: 17, FF: 16, TC: 12 | Fort:3, Ref:1, Will:1 | Init:2, Perc:1

More wild flailing at evil death ghosts!

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Damage: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Marcus manages to make contact, but just barely.

Male Human Monk 3 | HP:12/25 | AC: 15 (19 w/potion), FF: 12 (16 w/potion), TC: 15 (19 w/potion) | Fort:4, Ref:5, Will:7 (+2 vs enchantment) | Init:6, Perc:7

Mathias, thoroughly frustrated with these slippery devils. He half steps back, setting his feet as the shadowing creature strikes at him allowing it to complete its failed attack and as it reforms itself he strikes out with another one two strike.

Flurry 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Flurry 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

part of this attack is a shift five feet to the right hopefully granting Marcus room to flank and Beswaur room to push forward.

Male Human Monk 3 | HP:12/25 | AC: 15 (19 w/potion), FF: 12 (16 w/potion), TC: 15 (19 w/potion) | Fort:4, Ref:5, Will:7 (+2 vs enchantment) | Init:6, Perc:7

I think this is the first time more than one of us has managed to hit in any single round. Also, stupid str drain, he would have died if I weren't weakened.

1/2orc Warpriest (Champion of the Faith) of Desna 3, HP:24/24, AC:20, Touch:12, Flat Footed:18 F:+5, R:+3, W:+7(extra +2 vs charm compulsion), Init:+2, Perc:+3

Beswaur again attempts to use the wand.
touch attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18, if hits CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 will save for half.

Now that three persons are raining attacks down on it the shadowy form has nowhere to hide. The blessed weapons and the wand are too much for it and it vanishes in a brief flash of light.

The air feels just a little bit lighter, although the party cannot shake the feeling that they should have managed that a long time ago.

did you need me to relink the map? Now that the enemies you know about are vanquished

Male Human Monk 3 | HP:12/25 | AC: 15 (19 w/potion), FF: 12 (16 w/potion), TC: 15 (19 w/potion) | Fort:4, Ref:5, Will:7 (+2 vs enchantment) | Init:6, Perc:7

since I can't access the map while at work I will follow their lead as far as searching goes

Mathias steps forward and peers down the passage, retrieving his torch and staff.

Perhaps we should lay these to rest before we proceed?

1/2orc Warpriest (Champion of the Faith) of Desna 3, HP:24/24, AC:20, Touch:12, Flat Footed:18 F:+5, R:+3, W:+7(extra +2 vs charm compulsion), Init:+2, Perc:+3

Agreed. Let's gather what we can of the ghosts remains and bury them with all due ceremony,

Beswaur heads back to the burned bedroom.

Male Human Monk 3 | HP:12/25 | AC: 15 (19 w/potion), FF: 12 (16 w/potion), TC: 15 (19 w/potion) | Fort:4, Ref:5, Will:7 (+2 vs enchantment) | Init:6, Perc:7

Mathias will assist as instructed as he is not a religious man.

Male Halfling Paladin 1 | HP:11/11 | AC: 17, FF: 16, TC: 12 | Fort:3, Ref:1, Will:1 | Init:2, Perc:1

Marcus finds his torch and searches the floor for anything left behind by the dark shadows. If he finds nothing he goes to the bedroom with the others.

Our we still wounded from the thug fight?

1/2orc Warpriest (Champion of the Faith) of Desna 3, HP:24/24, AC:20, Touch:12, Flat Footed:18 F:+5, R:+3, W:+7(extra +2 vs charm compulsion), Init:+2, Perc:+3

No. I had enough healing to get everyone back up to full then we waited a night to prep spells.

There seems to be nothing left from the shadows. They have evaporated like morning dew in the sun.

Where are you planning on burying the ashes ?

Male Human Monk 3 | HP:12/25 | AC: 15 (19 w/potion), FF: 12 (16 w/potion), TC: 15 (19 w/potion) | Fort:4, Ref:5, Will:7 (+2 vs enchantment) | Init:6, Perc:7

I think that was the plan but as they have the religious characters I will let them answer that.

Male Halfling Paladin 1 | HP:11/11 | AC: 17, FF: 16, TC: 12 | Fort:3, Ref:1, Will:1 | Init:2, Perc:1

In the graveyard I suppose in the hopes that being laid to rest will make her not try to kill us again.

1/2orc Warpriest (Champion of the Faith) of Desna 3, HP:24/24, AC:20, Touch:12, Flat Footed:18 F:+5, R:+3, W:+7(extra +2 vs charm compulsion), Init:+2, Perc:+3

I was thinking use my detect alignment (or Mathais') to check the graveyard for any taint of evil. If nothing, bury them there.
If there is, we should probably take them to the village graveyard. In that case, we probably ought to also consider moving the current residents.
Also, knowledge check to see if any of that seems like a good idea.

knowledge religion: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

There doesn't seem to be any taint in the graveyard out back. Nothing in Beswaur's mind indicates that this would be a bad idea. FYI I do allow you to take 10 on knowledge checks
Beswaur also suspects that burying the ash with salt, holy or otherwise would be an exceptionally good idea. I'm scanning your inventory lists, Beswaur has everything in his backpack and you other two are travelling a lot lighter so I'll let you mention if you are sticking anything in the ground with this ash

It doesn't take long to dig a shallow grave for the ash. The ground is soft, and easy to dig through. Placing the ash in the hole causes it to suddenly transform into a demonic looking fire for a heartbeat before changing back to ash. The first sod chucked back into the hole covers the ash entirely and no more strange visions are forthcoming.

1/2orc Warpriest (Champion of the Faith) of Desna 3, HP:24/24, AC:20, Touch:12, Flat Footed:18 F:+5, R:+3, W:+7(extra +2 vs charm compulsion), Init:+2, Perc:+3

Beswaur also pours a vial of holy water on the ashes while burying them.

Male Halfling Paladin 1 | HP:11/11 | AC: 17, FF: 16, TC: 12 | Fort:3, Ref:1, Will:1 | Init:2, Perc:1

When we are done Marcus bows his head over the grave and saysRest in peace. Then he turns back to the orphanage.

There were a couple more rooms upstairs in this cursed place. Let's check those and move on to the main floor.

Male Human Monk 3 | HP:12/25 | AC: 15 (19 w/potion), FF: 12 (16 w/potion), TC: 15 (19 w/potion) | Fort:4, Ref:5, Will:7 (+2 vs enchantment) | Init:6, Perc:7

Mathias nods his agreement with Marcus. As he steps off he adjusts his cloth hand wrappings and sighs.

This is bound to be a long project if we continue to be weakened by these shades. Shall we rest first or push onward?

1/2orc Warpriest (Champion of the Faith) of Desna 3, HP:24/24, AC:20, Touch:12, Flat Footed:18 F:+5, R:+3, W:+7(extra +2 vs charm compulsion), Init:+2, Perc:+3

Beswaur is down by 5 str. But he is also convinced of his own capability to succeed. So he is always willing to keep going if others are.

Male Human Monk 3 | HP:12/25 | AC: 15 (19 w/potion), FF: 12 (16 w/potion), TC: 15 (19 w/potion) | Fort:4, Ref:5, Will:7 (+2 vs enchantment) | Init:6, Perc:7

Mathias is only down 2 str so he is willing to push onward.

Male Halfling Paladin 1 | HP:11/11 | AC: 17, FF: 16, TC: 12 | Fort:3, Ref:1, Will:1 | Init:2, Perc:1

Marcus is fine and definitely willing to push on.

1/2orc Warpriest (Champion of the Faith) of Desna 3, HP:24/24, AC:20, Touch:12, Flat Footed:18 F:+5, R:+3, W:+7(extra +2 vs charm compulsion), Init:+2, Perc:+3

Alright guys, let's head back in to check it out some more. I think we should do a quick look at the areas we haven't seen. Then if there are not threats, we can carefully investigate top to bottom. Agreed?

Male Halfling Paladin 1 | HP:11/11 | AC: 17, FF: 16, TC: 12 | Fort:3, Ref:1, Will:1 | Init:2, Perc:1

A nod, Sounds good, first floor then?

Starting off the party do a quick search of the bottom floor. Beswaur's blessed sight detects Evil coming from the back dining room on the lower floor. From the hall the dining room looks deserted, its long bench tables sit in the gloom on the room, piled only with eons of dust, and a multitude of cobwebs.

MathiasPerception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Beswaur Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
MarcusPerception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Mathias Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
BeswaurSave: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Marcus: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

Hey guys - I found all your good rolls! They're over here

There are still three faint auras of evil coming from underneath the tables. Mathias & Beswaur think they hear some form of scuttling sound in the dark, possibly underneath the tables, possibly underneath the floor.

Male Human Monk 3 | HP:12/25 | AC: 15 (19 w/potion), FF: 12 (16 w/potion), TC: 15 (19 w/potion) | Fort:4, Ref:5, Will:7 (+2 vs enchantment) | Init:6, Perc:7

Mathias points down indicating to the rest where he thinks he hears movement. Holding up one finger he places an ear to the wall listening for the noise now hopefully amplified.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

As Mathias moves to the wall, he steps on a wooden spoon that splinters with a very loud crack. At this all of the sounds of scuttling stop suddenly. But in the next couple of heartbeats Mathias hears the sound start up again. With his ear to the wall he is pretty certain the sounds are coming from below, and if he had to guess he would say it was from a large multi legged creature, possibly a spider or centipede, but it would have to be pretty big to make that level of noise.

1/2orc Warpriest (Champion of the Faith) of Desna 3, HP:24/24, AC:20, Touch:12, Flat Footed:18 F:+5, R:+3, W:+7(extra +2 vs charm compulsion), Init:+2, Perc:+3

I can't see the map right now, but iirc there was a stairway down to the basement right next to the stairs up to the second floor.
.
Hmm... Interesting...
Beswaur moves over to the top of the basement stairs and readies a couple of flasks in his hands.

Male Human Monk 3 | HP:12/25 | AC: 15 (19 w/potion), FF: 12 (16 w/potion), TC: 15 (19 w/potion) | Fort:4, Ref:5, Will:7 (+2 vs enchantment) | Init:6, Perc:7

At this point I think I prefer hearing footsteps.

Mathias joins Beswaur by the stairs ready to go down and explore what he hopes is the last level.

Male Halfling Paladin 1 | HP:11/11 | AC: 17, FF: 16, TC: 12 | Fort:3, Ref:1, Will:1 | Init:2, Perc:1

At least anything with footsteps is easier to hit.

Torch in hand and sword on his shoulder Marcus advances down the stairs.

The door at the top of the stairs is stuck, but a swift kick from Mathias makes it burst open. Decending down into the gloom the party climbed down a small twisting staircase. At the bottom was a small dirt floor in a chamber that was scarcely 15ft by 15ft. In this damp cellar mold is growing aggressively. Most of the wooden walls, and the underneath of the previous story's floorboards are covered in piles of black, green, and in patches purple molds. Some of which are looking decidedly hairy.
In one corner of the room sits an old furnace, its high iron doors coated with years of dust and grime.
There are several unidentifiable mounds in the other corners of the room, one of which looks to be the remains of a woodpile, but is now a stack of moldy, hairy logs. The source of the clicking is a pair of lengthy, segmented horrors that writhe and twist, pulsing their venomous mandibles in search of prey. One rests on the logpile in the corner, whilst the other is attached to the roof.

Initiative Centipede's: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Initiative Marcus: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Initiative Mathias: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Initiative Beswaur: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Okay Marcus, you are up, I'll try to post tomorrow evening, and then everyone can have their swing after that. This is a pretty standard 15x15 room, pretty much nothing can get flanking, and you should always be able to hit what you need to hit. Also sorry Mathias I listed your initiative as +1 when it should be +6, but that would bring you up to 7. The centipedes are AC14, with 15HP,
