Numair looks thoughtful.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25.
"Counter-proposal: You go free, and can head wherever you wish; if someone volunteers to go with you, they most certainly can; but the Society has the opportunity to study the Beacon..."

"We should try and save Skelg as well, he's a pathfinder as well," Eveline mentions, getting cautious when she says she's a witch, "...wouldn't he be a suitable, err, husband?"
Diplomacy aid?: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

GM Rutseg |

"Well, I guess it is fair for you to take the Beacon and study it. Skelg... he seemed a quite stout of an Ulfen, full of energy and burning passion... " the witch seems to daydream about the proposed marriage "He saved my life... so... yeah he can do a better husband than my last one, if... you can convince him to marry me" the woman grins with hope.

![]() |

"Yes, yes, that certainly sounds feasible. Can we go ahead and activate this thing. No rush, of course. Skelg might be dying as we speak, is all I'm saying." Reed tries to keep the sarcasm out of his voice, but fails. He fidgets nervously, not enjoying the brisk, cold air at all.

GM Rutseg |

The woman rejects doing anything before having word from the Ulfen man, and so the party rushes through the portal back to Skelg's room.
You are received with hope by both Skelg and his servant, although you observe the man is very weak, even more than before, his voice only a faint string of sound "S-so-so? Y... you... found... how to free me... f-from this curse?"
I will need a Diplomacy check to convince Skelg

"Well, we have some good news, and some possibly good news... The good news is that we have found a witch by the name of Natalya Yagevna, who can fix you... The downside (which may not be a downside!) is that she wants you to marry her. I think that is a fair exchange for not freezing to death, don't you?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16.

GM Rutseg |

"Ah! The old wife of my enemy... I think I can take her as my own wife, I have won the right long ago after all. Ok, tell her it will be a pleasure to get her" the man tries to incorporate but he is just way too weak to do so.
You get back to the ship before the portal closes and communicate Natalya what Skelg's decision has been. She seems pretty glad and pulls from under her bed a big chest giving it to you "Thanks for freeing me from this icy prison. The only thing you have to do is to place the Beacon on the ships front mast and all previous portals will close, most probably finishing Skelg's curse, which should be no other than the Beacon's beam opening a door to Irrisen in his insides"
Natalya helps you melt the ice with a flaming sphere. You then hang the Beacon in the figurehead’s mouth and light it, a portal opening in front of the ship, and closing all other portals close, including the one inside Skelg, effectively ending the “curse”.
The new portal leads to Whitethrone harbor in Irrisen. Natalya ask you a last favour then "Can you please row the ship into my homeland? It should be no more than a couple of hours, and I can look there for the materials to refill the Beacon of the North so you can go back to Greydog manor and send me back my future husband"
Inside the Natalya's chest you find her personal wealth: 1,000 gp worth of Irrisen trade bars.

"That I suppose we could do..."
Numair heads down to the lower deck, and sets about rowing the ship.
He may need a little help - at the very least one other person on the other side ;-)

Lionel grins at the opportunity to do physical work, sitting opposite Numair. "Best a luck ta ya both, beautiful! And if ya visit Absalom, come and visit us Pathfinders, ya know!", grinning. "What was that sailing stick called again? A row?", he quizzes the sorcerer.

![]() |

"You seriously suggest I'd be put behind a row?" Eveline asks, befuddled. She finds her short stature and average strength to pale in comparison to Numair, Lionel, and Reed, who all are fit to compete in international strength competitions.
"Sure I can help, so long we get away from this cold north," she continues, "but I can't guarantee to be much help with all these musclemen around me." She would rather do almost anything else to avoid the physical work she's poor at.

Reed grins at Eve, making sure to sit beside her. He lets her save face by pretending to row, while he does the work on their side for the both of them.
"It was a pleasure to help you both, ma'am. I am just glad we were able to help a friend of the Pathfinder Society and hopefully garner a new ally. I wish you both the best!"

GM Rutseg |

The Pathfinders row the Ulfen ship through the portal. After a couple of hours you land in Whitethrone harbor in Irrisen.
Natalya thanks you for your help and after some hours looking for ingredients in the city, she comes back with an oil she pours on the lantern "That should be enough for some more uses"
With the help of the now refilled Beacon of the North, you open a portal back to the Greydog manor, where you find a exultant Skelg "My good friends Pathfinders! How will I repay you for your services?" he seems now in perfect health, although you can see still some icy remains deep inside his eyes. He is dressing a very nice suite made of furs, with a golden horn hanging from his neck, the kind of marrying clothing you can expect from an Ulfen "You can keep the Beacon for yourselves, you made a good service to me. It is the lest I can do for you".
With a last greeting he and his remaining servant traverse the portal disappearing into the icy mists of Irrisen.
Once you came back to the Grand Lodge, it does not take a lot to find Adril Hestram. He receives you quite nervously "Oh my! So you came back! I was fearing something dark could have happen to you" his eyes open wide as you hand the Beacon of the North "So... what is this? How is Skelg health? What has happened with all of you?"

![]() |

"Woah! Bit chilly in here. Say, dove, do all them witches in here look as fine as ya do?", says Lionel to Natalya. "We'll be makin' ourselves go whoosh now, ma'am. And remember, if ya got any questions or need some marriage tips, pop into tha temple. It's just down the docks, ya go and ask for "The Temple". We'll getcha ya man soon.", finishes advertising Lionel.
Stepping into the manor, Lionel grins as he sees Skelg in good health. "Woah, brotha! You look fiine!", as he gives the man an unorthodox handshake. "That's some fine threads 's well, and I might get one a them gold horns!", he says, pointing to the several amulets of different gods on his neck. "Been a pleasure! Come an' drop by us Absalomians at any time!" he shouts enthusiastically, waving at the men entering the portal.
"They seem like a nice pair, dontcha think?", says Lionel, looking at Reed and Eveline as the portal closes. Making his way towards the Grand Lodge, he struts happily on the streets.
"Masta Hestram! It's been a journey al'ight! We done dispelled an ancient curse, got Skelg a wife and made some friends with them smokin' Irrisen dames. All I miss is tha opportunity ta buy me a fine white coat, but that can be rectafied!"

The time spentin Irrisen is most uncomfortable for Eveline, who tries to reside as close to a brazier as humanely possible. She doesn't usher a word lest her comrades spot her weakness; something she's not keen on showing.
Once back at the manor she lets out a relieved sigh, seeing Skelg now in perfect health. "I think the Beacon of the North and your health have been our top priority. We couldn't ask for anything else," she replies as honorably as any paladin would.
At the Grand Lodge she maintains her valiant and honorable demeanor when met with Adril Hestram. "To reiterate, our mission given by you to us was completed in its full extent. Skelg the Ripper has been cured of his curse, and the Beacon of the North has been brought to the Society for extensive study. We know of its preliminary abilities, such as the freezing light and its capability of opening portals."

![]() |

Reed smiles and bows shallowly to Skelg. "We were happy to help, Skelg. It was certainly an odd adventure and one to tell over a few ales at a later date. Take care with your new lady." He grins, taking his leave.
Reed nods his agreement with the others. "It is as Eve and Lionel have stated. Skelg is back to normal health, we have made potential allies in Irrisen, and the Beacon of the North shall join the many other artifacts in the Pathfinder Society vaults."

GM Rutseg |

The Venture-Captain seems both surprised and impressed "Well, that was an outstanding success on a rather uncommon mission. Thanks gods for your proactivity we can now count on the Beacon for study. It is also great we have obtained new allies on Irrisen"
And giving a last glance to the party he adds "You have proven yourselves, I will count with you for further missions, stay in touch. Now, you have time to rest and have fun. I hope you did not catch a cold with that freezing weather"
With that you leave the office an celebrate your victory hoping the next mission to be held in a warmer region.
