I just got on Steam, and I'd like to ask if anyone has recommendations about good Metroidvania games to try?
For point of reference, I've played and enjoyed SotN (and the DS Castlevania games), Salt & Sanctuary, and Cally's Caves 3.
I'd prefer games with multiple weapon types, and a playable female character.
I don't like games that use a lose all progress upon death mechanic common to older style roguelikes.
Thanks.

Dead Cells is excellent. It's a roguelite - the dungeon randomizes every time you restart, and you get sent back to the start every time you die, but you unlock additional equipment and permanent upgrades as you go through. It takes about 40 minutes to do a run from start to current final boss if you're being thorough (though there's rewards for speedrunning - including unlocks that can only be obtained through a speedrun).
It's in Early Access, but even in its current state it's a complete game.
(It's also pretty delightfully weird - your character is a glob of ectoplasm possessing a headless corpse.)
Now, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night would probably satisfy everything you're after, but it isn't due out until next year.

Games I have played (not necessarily played through, but that tells more about my gaming habits than the quality of the games)
Shadow Complex Remasteres (no playable female character, sadly)
Mini Ghost
Ghost 1.0
Alwas Awakening
The Shantae games (somewhere between platformer and Metroidvania)
Momodora
Mystic Belle
Dex (a bit on the RPG side of Metroidvanias, but a really good game)
Axiom Verge (no female character)
Apotheon (again, no female character but a very good game)
Valdis Story
Blood of the Werewolf
Dust: An Elysian Tale (no female character, great game nonetheless)

I'm cautiously looking forward to Bloodstained. While I'm not the biggest fan of Iga, I did like the direction Castlevania took under him. The caution comes from the recent spate of Kickstarter projects to make spiritual successors to classic games that have produced less than encouraging results.

I'll second these three and add
Seasons after fall (more of a puzzle plat former but has metroidvania elements)
Song of the Deep
Aquaria
I was looking at Momodora, I'll put it at the top of my list.
