Are Half-Janni still canon?

I remember reading in "Qadira: Gateway to the East" that there were Half-Janni, and then Suli descended from them. But I didn't read any such thing in "Blood of Elements," which was published later, and to my knowledge the other geniekin never had any mention of descending from "Half-Djinn/Efreet/Shaitan/Marid" to the best of my recollection.

And yes I know 'canon' can be a pretty loose term from group-to-group, I was just wondering if anyone knew the official stance.

I don't think so. It "seems" that Suli-jan have been promoted into that role.

I would suggest they reside in that "quasi-canon, but not really" that the original Juju Oracle now holds (as, according to developer statements, the original juju oracle, even if entirely replaced by identically-named abilities, is still technically canon unless directly countermanded).

It probably won't ever be referenced in print again, and is effectively replaced by the suli, but is not technically retconned out of existence (unless it is, somewhere, that I'm unaware of).

Half-celestials and half-fiends, despite being part of the core Bestiary may kind of be in that role in Golarion - outside of specific variant templates, I'm not actually aware of half-fiends or of any half-celestials in print, and generally these are replaced by specific variant templates (basically just the alu-fiends as far as I can tell), tieflings, and aasimar. I'd love to know if I'm wrong, though!

I've certainly seen examples of a half-fiend as an adversary in an adventure path, but I also don't recall a specific "half-fiend" template or something in the bestiaries.

I feel stupid now, I apologize for my epic failure in reading comprehension. Still lacking anything for a half-genie other than the aforementioned half-janni, which doesn't ever get mention anymore.

"Half-fiend"-half-fiend, or "alu-fiend" or something similar?

I'm asking because those are different templates, and I'm curious which are APs or adventures!

In most other cases I can think of, we get tieflings and aasimars.

No problem! We've all been there! XD

It never made sense to me that Eccardian Drovenge, whose conception was catalyzed by freaking Mammon himself (and who is stated not to have much actual free will in being Lawful Evil, much like a straight-up Devil), was just a tiefling with the advanced template when we have half-fiends and alu-fiends and such.

Exactly!

That's why I'm surprised there's a "half-fiend" statted up anywhere at all!

I've seen half-fiends in print (like a certain reptile from the Witch Queen's Revenge), but they're pretty rare.

Probably because they come with enough bells and whistles that they eat up a LOT of page space, and then depending on your base creature most of the bells and whistles can be a waste of time anyways (like if the base creature had low Charisma, thus crippling the pile of SLAs right out the gate).

And yeah, the suli and thier geniekin cousins seem to have replaced the half-janni.

Yet, I'd say the template's still valid. It's never really been in favor, but it's not been disavowed.

Sort of like the winter-touched and boreal templates in Reign of Winter - just because they haven't appeared in a hard back yet doesn't mean they're gone.
