I've got a question for anyone who likes to keep Serana around as a follower.

Why?

Her presence grates on me. Aside from my general dislike of vampires, I don't like her dialogue, her personality, her daddy issues, her sense of entitlement, her fashion sense, her face or the fact you're railroaded into keeping her alive and defending her blighted existence in every conversation with Isran. Considering you don't even ** spoiler omitted **, I never saw any legitimate reason why you can't just gank Serana, her dad and the entire Volkihar clan from the get go. It isn't like a high-level Dragonborn should have any real trouble doing it.

Granted that would make Dawnguard a really short DLC, but I think that's a problem with the questline writing. It immediately breaks immersion for a sworn vampire hunter to not put a bucket of crossbow bolts into Serana's rib cage as soon as she stumbles out of her stone phone booth dressed like a Hot Topic catalog model. Making Serana an ordinary human in suspended animation, finding out she's Harkon's daughter and then giving her the option to become a vampire if you pick Harkon's side would have fixed things easily without having to rework most of the quest.

Serana's dialogue differs from everyone else's. Different voice acting. She looks different. Sounds different. And unlike most other followers, continues to grow in power over time. If you don't like her fashion sense, do what I do: give her dragonscale armor. And a shield. Boots. Gloves. After having experimented with other followers, she's refreshing. I tend to be more martial in nature, so having a competent wielder of destruction magics doesn't hurt either. Though she does need to learn to be more discriminating when reanimating corpses sometimes. Though having her animate a dead chicken to attack our enemies was priceless.

Oh, and you can always find mods to alter her face while you're at it.

For her role in the story, well, why blame her for Bethesda's...

*snicker* The Zombie chickens could party with my Zombie rabbits. at least until everyone turns into a pile of ash.

It isn't so much that I hate Serana, the annoying, Mary Sue, albatross vampire, though that would be enough. It's more that I hate Serana, the collection of data shaped like an annoying, Mary Sue, albatross vampire.

Your answer for taking her along seems perfectly reasonable and justified if all I want is an essential follower with no level cap who has a few more lines of dialogue she repeats every three minutes and constantly paces between me and anyone I'm talking to like an attention-starved child. From a purely mechanical stance, having an unkillable follower with no level cap is nice. It's just nicer to have a follower I can see my character hanging out with and not the personified scabies my character picked up while exploring a giant plot hole.

It's like she's programmed to suck the fun out of the game, like some kind of thing that somehow drains another thing's vitality.

I can't wait to try my new turn zombies into bombs ring I pillaged from the moneyhole barrows.

Now I have an excuse to use all those Necromancy spells I haven't felt like using yet but i've still been buying anyway just because it's conjuring.

Okay, the tentacle squirting staff is way more fun then it ought to be.

The rest of his gear isn't heavy metal enough for my current tastes.

When it comes to that, all followers are repetitious, repeating themselves over and over. I just found her voice, as it's unique, less annoying than that of other people, whose voices are used over and over as NPCs. I do grant she seems worse about getting in the way when talking to people; I'd liken her to a cat more than anything else. Also, you say 'Mary Sue', I see her as a plot device with useful Destruction spells. To each their own, Skyrim's big enough a realm for us both to find a follower we like :)

Wow. You learn something new everyday. I never even knew about this quest.

Cool!!

Back to the Moneyhole Barrows.

Note to self: do not f*#* with the giant jellyfish, which I have learned are called Neth, are much faster than you would expect (though not really, if you have the time to think of it (I did not), and apparently eat Storm Atronachs for lunch.

pours a forty on the curb for Halle Berry (the Storm Atronach), remembering how I would stab Draugr Overlords with my Virtuous Elven Dagger and she would go chasing them.

... Oh! Right! I can just summon her again!

Desperately licks beer off the curb before it can evaporate.

I'm currently working on that questline with my "magus" character. He's a burly, bearded, heavy-armor-wearing Nord based on the Knights of the Ioun Star in the Occult Mysteries book, specifically the picture shown in the faction entry.

So far i've shelled out eleven grand got to Draugr stomp around a dungeon and found some cool treasures.

So I would say it's a win win situation.

Now I wait for the inevitable betrayal.

That quest is fun. Not only do you find a cool dungeon with lots of bandits to slaughter, you unlock a really weak follower when you complete it. By the time you finish Rise in the East, Adelaisa's only real value will probably be as a sacrifice to Boethiah (anyone looking for the Ebony Mail will know what I'm talking about.) The backstory of Japhet's Folly is really tragic and cool too if you spend some time exploring the tower to find Japhet's Journal.

At some point I became a bigger bad ass with my bow.

This is a good thing.

Because I summon a lot, my one handed is getting up there as well.

But yes, between stagger and extra chance for critical hits i've become quite the bad ass with my bow.

I've even been learning to aim better in the third person view. Which is tempting me to start up a Fallout New Vegas game where I don't use VATS. But then I remember that one time I tried firing Esther without VATS.

I usually stick to 3rd person unless I'm firing a bow. One of my friends who has had the game longer than I have always ragged on 3rd person. Until a few months ago he didn't realize you can zoom 3rd person view in and out as preferred, and his was always stuck cut off at waist level.

I prefer 1st person, which is odd given my issues with motion sickness. Nothing against 3rd, but it generally isn't immersive enough for me.

3-D and IMax make me feel sick.

Which is terrible, because I loved 3-D monster movies when I was a kid.

Generally, for Skyrim I prefer third person for fighting because it's too easy to get cornered without all around vision but for looking for s$*+ or archery I prefer first person view.

3rd person generally for me as well. Mainly because I like to see myself swinging. Just isn't the same watching an Axe go up and down.

Birthday coming soon. Depnding on how many people give me Steam cards (like I've hinted at) I'll be getting myself either the Skyrim Special Edition (and starting all over again) or Fallout 4(which I've never played)

So, it's been a little over a year Game time since I faced the Executioner's block, but the World Eater is dead. I return to the world of the living, found Serena waiting at High Hrothgar. Told the Grey Beards it's done. Told the Blades the same. They still want me to kill Parthenax but Old Grudges aren't my problem. If they want him dead it's their suicide. Did a run around the cities to let folks know they can go back to killing each other. Some think I should get involved in the civil war not but Not my Problem.
New Goal - Own a House in every city
Solitude asks me to go kill some bandints in a cave. Instead I find Undead and necromancers.

and then my vampire blood awakens

wait what?!

how? Why?

Serena, sweetie....why am I a vampire? not even a 3 day warning just right to lesser vampire.

you haven't been snacking on my while I sleep have you

I'm still convinced ED-E was taking pictures of me in my sleep and posted them online.

We could all be so lucky!

I'm with Ayvid (or whatever their name was) the g%$@&~n f%!@ing gears, robots, and puzzles serve no purpose.

Oh, Fahlbtharz, how I hate thee!

Seriously! I thought I was done trying to shoot little tiny blue crystals after Oblivion.

Now they turned it into a a spinny puzzle thingy.

That's one way I hate Fahlbtharz.

Redid Rise in the East. Forgot how good that was. Haldyn never knew what hit him.

Spoiler:
It was my dragonbone warhammer, which looks like a dragon's femur. Unenchanted. Upside the head. Unlike his Blood Horders, one of whom got the handle wrapped around behind their head as I headbutted them to death in a display of vampiric knightly womanliness.

I got to fighting out on the island. Found a bunch of summoned undead. They didn't see me. I begain invoking my Reality Marble. They saw me and started attacking me. Just as it went off, we got blasted. They all exploded just as the world washed away. Stupid East Empire people, I had things under control.

Next stop, Ragnvald, to prove I'm a master transmuter too. And if memory serves, put another notch on the belt for named Dragon Priest slaughters.

Well if I'm stuck as a Vampire for a while, I might as well go all in. Serena if you please. Lord me up.

From there we ate a lot of necromancers and then told old Falk the job was done.

No wonder Serena complains so much the Sun is annoying.

Anyway we decided to spend some time eating Forsworn, figure nobody will notice that. Vampire Perks are kind of nifty.

And then along come three big burly men in full Nordic plate. "We've come to teach you a lesson"

ok but why?

Who the hell is Modhna and when did I piss her (sounds like a her) off?

So, in my game, I've reached the point where I was attacked by an assassin. Guess who dies next.

Greylurker wrote:

Go to Castle Volkihar and you'll find Modhna.

Hey Sharoth, did you find any mods you liked for XBOne?

Yes. But there was a mod that needed two others and I had to restart. Unfortunately, one of those mods makes it hard to make a character because it is always spinning as I look at my character. I got annoyed and set it down for a bit.

Certain mods do have prereqs. Have we run into that before in some other game? LOL I find a lot of the mods that do are body-replacer mods (e.g. the Seraphim series).

Happy Easter everyone!!

The wife and I got up at 5:30 to hide the eggs and baskets which of course, was barely enough time. Now I'm walking the dog then it's off to the in laws out in the country.

I gotta say, I expected more from something called Dwarven Centurion Master.

Of course, maybe if they weren't standing so obviously in the middle of the room practically with signs all over them saying "shoot me from a distance"

Of course, if the dwarves weren't so wrapped up with building the biggest gears that serve no purpose they could've programmed some more useful commands other than "stalk slowly around the room with the senses of a rhinoceros"

I said the same thing till I got to Forgotten City. I did some things to make them mad. And when they're invincible and lots of them, yeah, getting thrown everywhere and set on fire isn't as fun as it sounds. Definitely a good mod though.

I otherwise think of them as a convenient source of deadric arrows.

Yes, they had plenty of those.

I hate the f#&+ing ballista a$$~+&$s most of all.

Even the rolly ball guys aren't that bad, just give them a frost Atronach to wail away on, and then flank it with a big sword.

Not fond of the ballistas either. Not many of them thankfully.

For anyone considering that Legendary Creatures of Skyrim mod, I finally lured The Boiler over to the Falmer Shaman's hut during a jaunt into Blackreach. The murderous morlock trounced the titanium titan in about seven seconds and still had over half his health remaining. To put their battle into context, both of these monsters were capable of single attacks dealing roughly 500 damage to my heavily armored, level 30 Dragonborn. Granted I wasn't as prepared as I could have been(fire resistance would have saved me all my food and healing potions) but I did eventually manage to finish the bat-faced albino off after burying over a dozen crossbow bolts and a war axe into his face.

Big surprise! Raelis betrayed me.

I did not see that coming.

Now I have all of Ahzidal's s&&!.

Well...Birthday has come and given me enough Steam monies for Skyrim SE, Downloading as I type. As such my PS3 is gonna get a rest as I start all over again on the PC with a much prettified game.

Personally I think it's a good investment. I love the game but my PS3 isn't going to be around forever. Having a Steam version of it keeps it in my library for longer.

Could have gotten Fallout 4, still might, but I KNOW I enjoy the freedom of Skyrim.

and now that I have a pc version I might even try moding it

Happy birthday!

Happy birthday, Greylurker.

It turns out, the key to defeating Ahzidal was my tentacle squirting staff, my staff of blizzards (x2), and chugging hella magic potions to summon s&~#. Of course, it took me quite awhile to stumble across those tactics, and a bit longer to put it all together. But once I had dude tangled in tentacles things came into place.

Still, it was a good half hour of fighting him, and I got to use his Draugr bomb ring against him! But, alas, they kept getting set off by his own undead patsies, so that was awash.

Raelis, being the thieving little a#*~@$# he is, was a pushover in comparison.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

~thinks~ I guess Stealth + Archery + Smithing + Enchanting + (some) alchemy IS a bit OP.

Ahzidal was a pushover for my archery character. Dead in under 2 minutes.

First rule of restarting Skyrim

be completely different from last time

I am now Fauzzie the Kajite
Fauzzie is a simple traveller
no sir Fauzzie dose not know how those valuables ended up in his pockets
you look tiered perhaps Fauzzie can buy you a drink and you look the other way yes

When Fauzzie regains conciousness he is on a cart to Helgen and they are to execute him. This is not Fauzzie's week

Despite Fauzzie's pleas of innocence, relative innocence they are still going to execute me, how very unfair these imperial fellows are.

Fortunately the Gods they smile on Fauzzie and send Dragon to cause fear and panic which Fauzzie uses for escape, with help of Hadvar fellow.

Fauzzie however is in need of much monies, so we asks around town for odd job. Golden Claw you say, Fauzzie can stea.....find that for you yes. and you pay in coin for this yes.

excellent

Not a new game, but I decided magic practice is in order. On the Lakeview Manor mannequin are my dragonscale armor, helmet, gauntlets, and shield. My old cloak is there. Same with my vampire hood. I kept my vampire circlet, necklace, and ring. Now it's merchant's clothes, mage's gloves, fine boots. With my old lute, of course. Time to wander the world and see what it has to offer again. Like the 30 new bandit encampments maybe?

The Gauldar amulet has finally been reforged.

The middle stooge was the most annoying, as the son of a b~~*$ kept shouting me against the walls. Which was made worse because just as I started fighting him my summons expired and the a&&!*#* wouldn't even give me time to stand up, much less get a meat shield set up. Fortuitously, he finally blasted me behind a pillar and I was able to get Stormy all set up. Still, with his mirror images, dude was tough.

Fauzzie has murdered a man for his fur pants. The mountains are cold and full of snow, so Fauzzie regrets nothings.

The Barrows with the bandits who stole the golden claw is found. They are many but, every fight you avoid is a fight you have won. Fauzzie is stealthy and the bow, it is a handy distraction to make people look a different way.

The Golden Claw is soon mine and the Dark Elf who took it dead. However he mentions treasure. Store owner only wants his claw back, he will not mind if Fauzzie uses it first to gain a treasure yes...

Zombies are not clever. Fauzzie has easy time leading them to traps and setting them on fire....well until the end anyway. Just as Fauzzie claims his treasure the words on the wall give him a headache and a zombie jumps up to kill him. Run and use fire works best now.

Now I have a rock, it looks like a map, perhaps to treasure. perhaps the rock is a treasure, surely someone will pay me for this rock.

Back to riverwood. Return the claw and sell my goods....

Best of all though - Bracers of Stealing. These will serve Fauzzie well.

Did you kill Ralis after the fight with Ahzidal? If you spare him, he makes an excellent follower. He's basically a very versatile dual-wielding warrior/mage.

Oh no, he's dead.

I just assumed one of us had to die, and since I'm the main character...

Good to know for next time though. :-)
