Star Wars - Revised Core (RCR) - An Empire Reborn

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 57 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

You live in a perilous time, or one of order and peace - depending on your point of view. The Galactic Empire arose from the ashes of the Clone Wars. Many believe that the Empire brought peace and order to the galaxy. However, not all believe this - a group calling themselves the Rebel Alliance, or the Rebellion, fights against the Empire. Rumors abound that these rebels have managed to destroy a major installation in the Yavin system that was protecting a group of scientists and archaeologist studying the ruins on one of the moons - killing not only the military personnel, but the civilians and scientists as well. Adding to this disastrous information was the report that the planet of Alderaan has been destroyed. Officials from the Empire claim it was a natural disaster that was to sudden to stop or evacuate the planet; although there are claims that the Empire destroyed Alderaan.

For the last month or so, since this news came out, you have been having dreams . . . dreams that seem to be calling to you. Calling you to a world you have never seen . . . but feels familiar . . . almost as if you belong there. Finally, feeling unable to resist the dreams you have found a way to this planet, and find that it is an uninhabited planet, but obviously once was inhabited. Once you step foot on the planet you feel as if you have come home, a place that is a part of your very spirit. You find your way to a ruin, once there you find others there as well . . . you feel almost as if you know them, and that you expected them to be here as well . . . and something tells you that it is almost time . . .

. . . but time for what?

********************************************************************

This game takes place not to long after the Battle Yavin. This will be a force game, and quite possibly a Dark Side game - but PvP will not be allowed. The game will mostly be a sandbox game. I have plans, and long range goals, but everything (after it gets going) will be player character directed. Characters can be from almost any background (no force) - Imperial, Rebel, moisture farmer, etc.

Sources: All RCR books are allowed.

Ability Scores: 28 point buy
Races: Anything that would be around during the Rebellion Era.
Level: Starting level is 5
Classes:All except force classes.
Skills: Climb and Jump are rolled into one skill called Athletics (Str). Balance and Tumble are rolled into one skill called Acrobatics (Dex).
Feats: You get a feat at every odd level, instead of every third level. Everyone gets Force Sensitive for free, but characters do not know they are and have never used the force before.
Starting Credits: 40,000

I will choose players on 1/23. I will take up to 6 PCs. I would like the post rate to be at minimum once a day during the week.

Scarab Sages

Interested. Though I don't currently have my copies of the RCR books here, I may be able to retrieve them in time to work something up.

Question : Can we further 'pathfinderize' the skills? That is, Linguistics for Forgery/Speak Language? If not, can we at least combine Speak/Write/Read into one skill point? It's incredibly expensive to speak, read, and write multiple languages in the base system. You basically have to give up being good at anything else.

Question : How are we assumed to be getting to this planet? You can't really start with your own ship, so unless it's a planet on the main spaceways, we'd have no way to get there short of stealing a ship (if we are stealing a ship to get there, that limits some personality types in characters).

Question : Should it be assumed that small technological species have access to prosthetics that allow them to operate equipment built for medium characters? For example, a small ship pilot with extensions to reach the pedals and switches and such in the cockpit? Or will we be limited to operating ships that have been modified specifically for small pilots? Or do we assume all non-species specific ships already have adaptable controls for various species?

EDIT : Just noticed we get 40K starting credits, I'm assuming that's so we can buy a used ship to start with?

The only ones I can find so far we can afford used are :

Used Tie-Fighter (No Hyperdrive)
YT-1300 Freighter (25,000)
Kuat Systems Firespray-31 Patrol/Attack Craft (30,000)
Lone Scout A/A2 (30,000)

NOTE: I didn't use the 'Starships of the Galaxy' book because to the best of my knowledge it was never updated for the Revised Core Rules.

Yay! Finally a Revised Core game. I've started a character.

I will dot in my interest as well. I also have a question: are we using the RCR point buy or Pathfinder point buy?

Dot

Also Spot+Listen = Perception?

Also Hide+Move Silent = Stealth?

That seems reasonable to me,

That can be background fiat. Anyway you want to get there is fine. Don't waste credits on a ship, that will be handled in game. You can say you had a ship to get there, but you crashed it/it stopped working/or your just going to "lose" it.

Assume you there is prosthetics or it has/can be modified.

Good question. Use Pathfinder.

Yes

I updated after you responded, but if we're doing that on skills, move silent/hide -> Stealth?

Piggybacking off mdt, if a class only gives one of those two skills (such as Fringer only giving Hide or Noble only giving Listen), does the class get the combined skill?

Also, if we take crafting skills, could we build some of our own equipment? It would be flavorful for one of the ideas I have.

Makes sense tome. Go for it.

Yes the class gets the combined skill/

You can craft it following the normal rules. Please note what you have crafted on the app.

First Draft of Pristi

Pristi is a Kushiban from Kushibah, a planet in the outer rim.

Background:

Pristi was never what one would consider a 'compliant' lad growing up. He always had questions, questions, QUESTIONS! His parents, simple folk who enjoyed peace and quiet. Alone among his 4 siblings, being the middle child, Pristi was an anomaly to his parents. Unsure what else to do, they took him to Kushiba, the city built by the Republic when Kushibah joined it several thousand years ago. The city was the main trade city on the planet, populated more by outsiders than Kushiban, nevertheless there were Kushiban like Pristi there.

However, unknown to his parents, the Empire had taken over the city. Living with distant relatives in the City, Pristi all but consumed every scrap of knowledge he could, never settling on one thing for more than a few weeks before moving on to another bit of knowledge. He was also fascinated by the technology and ships of the Republic now Empire.

Kushibah was a backwater rim planet, and there Empire's presence wasn't huge, but it was just as bullying and misanthropic as it was in the core, and the local Kushiban rapidly began to loathe the Empire, and humans in general. Pristi was soon part of the local Kushiban Resistance, and happily began scavaging tech and stealing ships from the Imperial forces and generally making their lives a living hell.

When the drive to go off planet came over him, Pristi had spent several years annoying Imperial forces, and it was relatively easy to get himself off planet, and then steal an escape pod when he got near the planet he was pulled to...

Background can be tweaked some, but seems to work. Had to make up a city name, Kushiban was part of the Republic, but other than that, no real data on cities etc on it.

I'll buy equipment if the current character is ok...

EDIT : Forgot to put the feat boosts in on the skills, so Pilot goes up by 3, and Repair goes up by 5.

EDIT : Also, Computer use goes up by 2, and Escape artist by 4 (racial boost).

EDIT : Also need to pick languages. Put 2 ranks into Forgery/Linquistics. So, 3 languages from Int, 2 from Forgery/Linguistics. Basic is the obvious first choice. Probably Binary too (given the tech focus). Any suggestions for the other 3?

Background is fine.

As for languages I would suggest one of the "underworld" languages like Huttese. Other than that it would be entirely up to you.

Questions on Equipment :

Weight of equipment built for Small creatures : Armor weighs half as much for small creatures. Should non-armor equipment that is worn that is built for small creatures (such as helmets, ponchos, flight suits, etc) also be halved for weight?

Cost of equipment built for Small creatures : Armor says it costs 50% more for Small creatures unless bought from a company that builds specifically for them (I'm assuming on planets they colonize/etc or have a big population for). Some stuff isn't species specific (helmets for example, a small helmet would as easily fit an Ewok as a Sullustran as a Kushiban, with some minor mods for each, no more than what is needed for Devaronian vs Human vs Wookie). Should we assume that non-armor items that can be made small (like helmets, ponchos) can be found in small sizes at base cost? I'm assuming flight suits for Kushiban need to be made at the 150% cost increase. :)

Droids : Any restrictions on what droids we can buy? I don't think there's rules in RCR for building a droid, correct?

EDIT : Is there a discount for buying a used droid (that has some quirks already in it)?

EDIT, EDIT : What would an articulated harness cost for a small creature? What I'm looking for is a harness designed to have an articulated armiture that folds up. This would (A) allow him to utilize medium sized controls in a starship/fighter/transport, and also allow him to 'hold' equipment while he's moving (since he's quadruped while running, but biped while standing).

No battle droids. I don't know if there is an official one, but I will say you can take 25% off.

As that would be something rarer to find I will say 2,500 credits.

Updated Character Sheet

Kept about 8K in credits 'fluid' for now, I figured we might need some credits to spend in game.

I bought 1 droid, an R3 unit, with an 'R2' outer casing (figured there'd be plenty of burned out R2 units to steal an outer casing from for disguise). It has a bunch of mods to it, including a hidden vocabulator and translator. I need to work out it's skills/feats/etc still. Waiting to get approval on it first.

I bought 1 vehicle (an Incom T16 Skyhopper airspeeder). I modified it 3 times with customizations, per the customization rules. Having looked at the vehicles, whoever did the vehicles for RCR was nuts. Cargo capacity for most stuff is '5kg' or '50kg' for a Huge/Colossal vehicle. It's insane. A two person air speeder has 50kg of cargo, meaning you can't go grocery shopping with one. *eyeroll*

Updated Background:

Along the way, he stole and reprogrammed an R3 unit the imperials had just gotten in. Putting the casing from an old beat up and burned out R2 unit in place of the shiny new R3 casing, he tinkered with it and reprogrammed it multiple times until he got it the way he wanted it, or until it got him the way it wanted him, which is which is a good question.

When the drive to go off planet came over him, Pristi had spent several years annoying Imperial forces, and it was relatively easy to get himself off planet. He put himself and R3A5 into an old T16 Skyhopper that was being trans-shipped through Kushiba, and rerouted it to the new planet. Once it was stored in the open field, as the routing instructions said, it was simple enough to start it up and fly it out toward where he was being drawn.

Droid Quirk: 1d20 ⇒ 16

Resilient but Slow : The droid was built to last, but it's modifications make it slow to respond to threats. It gains the Toughness feat, but also gains a -1 penalty to Initiative checks.

Used Vehicle: 1d100 ⇒ 21 : No Flaws

R3A5 "Reef" or "Reafer"

Other than WP/VP I think I'm done.

Character is looking fine. The airspeeder might be a little difficult to get to the starting planet, but not impossible.

Looks good

Excellent.

mdt, I don't know how much in the way of groceries you buy, but 50 kg = 110 lbs of cargo space, which sounds like plenty of room for groceries to me.

By the way, mdt, where did you get that character sheet you used? I don't have a digital one, and that looks pretty useful.

Droid Quirk: 1d20 ⇒ 6

Oh good, my astromech is Pompous. How wonderful.

Edit: MDT, how did you get a +8 class bonus to Defense? I thought multiclassing in RCR gave you a -2 penalty to Defense for each additional class after the first after you added them all together.

Mad Irishman's Fillable Sheet

Defense : I'll have to fix that. I used a character generator online to speed up making it, and it apparently calculated the defense wrong. I just copy/pasted. Looks like I'd have 4, not 8.

As to groceries, I usually get about a hundred and fifty pounds of groceries every 3 weeks (I buy in bulk). The 50kg is almost ok for a two seater. However, there was only one with 50kg, and one with 110 kg, the rest were 2kg to 10kg cargo. Only one had more than 1 passenger, many had 0. If you look at the movies though, most of the air speeders were minimum 2 seaters and a a lot were four seaters.

The speeder bikes I didn't mind having low cargo (note they had 5kg as well, which boggles the mind that the futuristic motorbike had the same cargo as the fiats of the future).

Ah, see, I buy groceries weekly, since it's just me and my wife. A lot of stuff we could buy in bulk would go to waste with just the two of us, so we usually don't except for certain things we know won't go bad.

I see your point about a lot of the speeders. Some of those weights don't quite make sense for cargo capacity - unless they're trying to replicate a hypercar or something.

I'll probably put everything in the sheet, but here's my submission. I also bought a droid, an R2 unit, and have a lot of credits left over because I couldn't think of anything to do with them. Meet Von-dai Cress, human scavenger, mechanic, and droid builder from Nar Shaddaa.

Backstory:

Emerging from the wreckage one final time, Von-dai Cress shakes his head. ”The repulsorlift coils are completely fried, Veeo, plus it looks like the reverse power coupling’s casing may have cracked. I’m not sure where the lateral stabilizer ended up, but I don’t think we’re leaving here on this ship.” Sniffing the air, Von-dai wrinkled his nose. ”Plus, I’m pretty sure we’re leaking coolant.” His companion began whistling and beeping insistently, and Von-dai smiled. ”No, Veeo, I don’t think it’s your fault the starboard engine lost power as we came in, nor do I think it’s your fault the repulsorlift blew while you were trying to land the ship. The fact this thing flew at all is fairly impressive, given its condition when we found it.”

Putting on the supply pack he’d left lying on the ground next to the R2 unit and grabbing the sledge he’d made out of some hull fragments, he said, ”Come on, no sense in waiting around here. We’ll walk the rest of the way.” He began walking as Veeo rolled along beside him, thinking, At least the planet’s inhabitable. I hope we’re not stuck here forever. Wherever ‘here’ is. Pulling the sledge behind him, he thought about the path that had led him here.

Von-dai was from Nar Shaddaa, a dangerous place to live, and when you grew up in down-level Nar Shaddaa, it was downright deadly. He’d been orphaned at a young age, and barely remembered his parents. He’d eked out a meager living begging and selling what looked like usable scrap he’d salvage out of the dumps. Scavenging was dangerous, as he had to be careful of bigger scavengers who carried guns – or other creatures down in the depths of the Smuggler’s Moon. When he couldn’t even earn credits that way, he’d steal food (okay, so it was more likely nutrient paste), or he’d scrounge up a meal. Somehow, he managed to find enough food to avoid complete starvation, although he often slept with an empty belly.

As Von-dai grew older, he began teaching himself some simple repairs on some of the scrap he’d found, which allowed him to sell it for more credits. He lacked tools at first, but eventually he was able to cobble together tools that would work. Once he made enough money, he bought himself an actual tool kit, although it wasn’t anything fancy. He began working on repairing more and more complex salvage, until the day he found an old DUM-series pit droid. A simply constructed droid, Von-dai was eventually able to repair it and sell it. The credits he got from that one were more than he’d ever seen. Eager to learn more, he went looking to scavenge more droid parts. He found and sold several after repairing them, and learned that being able to repair droids would get him far more credits than his other salvage.

Eventually, he earned enough of a reputation to move to a higher level of Nar Shaddaa. He had an actual (small) apartment that doubled as his workshop, and was able to feed himself with regularity. People began bringing him salvage as well as what he found on his own. He eventually did well enough he needed assistance keeping up, and decided to buy Veeo. Having the astromech droid as his associate doubled his production times, and he found himself with more credits than he was used to. Because most of his materials were salvaged, he was able to keep his prices low, which meant business would remain good for the future. He modified Veeo as he acquired the necessary parts, slowly improving upon the droid’s construction and functionality.

As Nar Shaddaa was a part of Hutt Space, the Empire treated it as subjugated, but with a largely hands-off policy. The power of the Hutts was a far more pressing concern to its inhabitants, so Von-dai never really had a care one way or the other for the Empire or the Rebel Alliance. When word of Yavin reached him, he shrugged the report off, assuming the Empire was at least shading the truth, and that the Rebels were likely no more virtuous. Then the dreams came. Every night, he would have the same dream, a dream that called him to a planet. He’d never been off-world, and didn’t even know how to fly a speeder, let alone a spaceship, but he felt a need to travel to this planet. Call it luck, fate, or what have you, but it was a week after the dreams started, on a scavenging foray with Veeo, that he found two things: one, a droid programming module for space transport construction, and two, a broken, clearly battle-scarred Lone Scout-A Scouting vessel in an abandoned hangar bay.

After verifying the module’s programming was both functional and not a virus of any kind, Von-dai added the programming to Veeo, and together they began to fix the ship up. At first, Von-dai intended to fix it up and sell it, but as the dreams occurred, he felt more and more drawn to the planet, and needed to travel there. As soon as the ship was functional enough to fly without killing him, he and Veeo set off, relying on Veeo’s astromech programming to fly the ship and calculate the nav course.

Of course, the need to travel to this planet had caused him to cut several corners in fixing the LSA, including that useful detail called testing. The ship had performed well enough leaving the Nar Shaddaa and held up throughout the hyperspace jump, although it wasn’t very fast, but as they entered atmosphere flying towards the location on the planet Von-dai needed to go to, the starboard engine suddenly lost power, causing the ship to begin a spin. Veeo was able to stabilize the ship by cutting the power to the port engine and using the repulsorlifts, but they would need to set down to check the starboard engine. As they went to do so, one of the repulsorlifts blew, and it was an ungainly and semi-controlled crash landing that eventually got them to the ground.

A toodle from Veeo snapped Von-dai out of his remembrance. ”Other humanoids? Are you sure?” They were approaching an ancient structure, and, as Veeo indignantly beeped at him for doubting the droid’s sensors, Von-dai saw several others near what looked like the entrance. ”Well, let’s go see if they’re friendly.” Loosening his blaster in its holster, Von-dai drug the sledge towards the other group, Veeo beside him.

Looks like a good match, both of us are tech guys, but you're better at creating new items (Pritsi isn't a maker, just a repairer). Reef can build new starship components from raw materials with the right tools, between your skills and Pristi's, we can probably keep any ship going, and he can fly it anywhere. Now we just need someone who's a combat bad-ass, and someone who's a schmoozer. :)

I'm interested, but I have a serious lack of system mastery. I've run and played lots of d20 games, but never Star Wars Saga. I don't think I would have trouble with gameplay, but character creation might be a challenge. I'm thinking of an Imperial fighter pilot, someone who flew a Tie Defender in the Battle of Endor, perhaps. Not sure if a Level 5 Soldier would qualify for such an honor. Probably not. That would probably require someone who had actually achieved Ace Pilot.

I'll try to get a draft up for the build.

** spoiler omitted **...

Character is looking good.

This is not my Saga Edition game, this is the Revised Edition which is the edition before Saga. If you need help I am sure there are those around here who can, just ask. You can probably find a scanned pdf copy floating around on the internet.

Also, this game takes place shortly after the Battle of Yavin. The battle of Endor would (normally) take place about 4 years later. Depending on how the game goes that may not even happen.

COol! I'll work up the full character in the next day or so, but like I said I am thinking a Twi'lek Noble class is best for being a dancer. As for whether she's actually a slave or not (as many twi'lek women are) we can discuss that, not sure how you want to handle her actual noble resource access and such.

Plus your guy actually knows how to fly a ship - my guy relied on the astromech to get there.

When I originally designed the character, it actually was a Jawa. He was going to one day appear in the engine room of the ship and declare it his territory, where he would sleep and take his meals. He was pretty good at keeping things up and running, so the crew would just let him stay. They don't know what he's saying, but figure "Utinni" pretty much means "Let's go".

I felt the Jawa was inappropriate for the tone of this campaign, so I went with human. Much more appropriate.

Dot. Revised, my word, blast from the past. Will get to it.

Edit:

As far as canon are we using book canon or modern canon. I'm curious if Rogue One and such related revelations since RCR was created are part of this universe...

I am planning on staying with Lucas and authorized books. I do think Rogue One is appropriate to be included with this.

Given how good R1 was, I have zero issues with it being included.

I wouldn't mind if Jar Jar was house ruled to be the deluded fever dream of an Imperial Historian though. :)

Well I'm seeing a serious lack of big guns so I am building a scoundrel/soldier type. Armor and blasters here I come!

Same, mdt. Same.

Big guns are always useful, PriateDevon, no worries.

GM kind of a silly question but would you consider feat retraining of some sort? I would love to PrC into Elite Trooper but then I gain a bunch of armor feats for getting the class but I want to also take them now to be more effective before I get the PrC? Trying to evaluate if I might get a change to retask those feat slots...

Edit: What no one realizes is that the first prequel movie is actually being retold by Jar Jar to his kids years later and given their utter disregard for their father they assume that when he "fights droids" or "blows up a tank" he does it in as bumbling a way as possible...

This might be interesting. Let me take a look at the RC noog again. Would it be possible to take the Force Sensitive feat with perhaps the possibility of Force training later? I might do an officer.

I would love to be friends with the kushiban, would a shi'do be appropriate?

Ahem...

As to being friends with a Kushiban... Can't see any reason you couldn't become friends... as long as your Shi'ido (assuming the GM allows them) isn't a jerk. :)

That is what I get for skimming.

Does anyone have a fillable RC sheet that they use?

Ahem?

This isn't allowing me to fill in things.

I would allow that yes.

The sheet worked for me as well. Jace, what web browser are you using?

Also, here is my character in the sheet. It is quite useful.

I'm reposting the other stuff from my first post as well.

I am using the one that comes with Windows 10.

Okay, that means you're using Microsoft Edge. A lot of things haven't been properly configured for Microsoft Edge yet. If you have Adobe Reader, right-click on the link for the sheet and choose Save Target As... which will allow you to save the PDF to your computer. Then you can open the PDF in Adobe Reader and fill in the sheet. You'll have to save it as a separate copy once you're done.

Thank you. That is very helpful

Sorry I've been a bit MIA, I just downloaded the fillable character sheet and will make my character today.

As for the fillable nature, I use PDF X-Change Viewer It's a third-party PDF viewer that allows you to actually save and re-edit files later, unlike Adobe Reader. Plus, it's free for most basic uses unless you are professionally making new PDFs and need some locked feature, it's doubtful you'll need to upgrade to the paid "PRO" version.

(As for it being "discontinued" and replaced by the new editor, they DO still update it for bugs and such, and the Editor is still free, just I've tried the Editor and I'm more used to the Viewer's layout so I prefer it still for my purposes.)

Okay, here is Jen'tara Rhee. I chose Pilot as her free class skill, since I'm basing her on my old Star Wars Galaxies (and now Star Wars Old Republic) character, who was a dancer and also ace pilot (Imperial Inquisition, if you remember pre-NGE Star Wars Galaxies Jump to Lightspeed). At first level her pilot skill is that natural talent.

Jen'tara Rhee

As for her being (or having been) a slave, if you accept her we can discuss whether she still is or how she became free. (In SWG, my story was that when High Inquisitor Tremayne saw she was force-sensitive (she was also the character I was literally one phase away from her being a jedi when the NGE BS happened), he bought her and then handed her off to the Imperial Inquisition for training.)

@Zelda - Characters are level 5, not level 1.

Ah, cool! I missed that, I'll update her :)

EDIT: Okay, she's updated. Same link.
