1v1 Duels

Advice

Wasn't sure if this should go into the homebrew forum. In a scenario I'm running I'd like to have my PCs fight what amounts to their "shadow" selves; essentially mirror matches.

Anyone have any interesting ideas on how to handle duels between two individuals of similar strength and capabilities? In the past I ran a duel as a version of rock paper scissors where each combatant attacks at the same time and where the winner gets bonuses to hit and damage. I saw on the pfsrd that there are rules for duels but I find them a little dry and unintuitive. Any advice is appreciated.

Treat it like normal combat. Strategy and dice will be the deciding factors. Also you have to decide if their shadowselves have all the same gear and whatnot, but treat as combat where you run four of them against the others. Or one v. one; either way, treat it like normal combat, from initiative on up.

I will say - if they have all of the same gear and abilities, unless you pull your punches, at least 1 PC will likely die.

Maybe have them be shadow in the sense of shadow illusions, so they're only 80% real.

Either that or crappy gear. It reminds me of BGII where Irenicus made copies of your entire party. They were naked, so the martials weren't that hard to deal with, except for the copy of my monk. >.<

Yeah - I'm with Mr. Pitt, I'm not sure why you need special rules for this.
