Kineticist Flying

Rules Questions

We are playing Reign of Winter and my Kineticist just got the ability to fly (60 feet)... the other players will be riding Dragonkin (120 feet).

Since my flight works as the Fly spell can anyone tell me if I can Hustle while flying? I know running is out, so no x3 movement but how about x2. Charging is in, so you can do a double move at least in the short term.

I understand that I may have to deal with nonlethal damage... it takes Overland Flight to ignore that... Ideally I'd just like not to slow the party down.

All help appreciated.

See if you can get your own Dragonkin.

I don't see why you can't hustle and take the appropriate penalties for hustling a long distance.

I could probably do that but I waited so long to fly under my own power that I want to use it... ya know? Darn it.

You'll probably still be slowing down the group. Any hustling you're doing just means that the dragonkin won't be able to hustle themselves if you want to keep up with them.

Think of it this way: You and your dragonkin can still separate in battle situations. If someone incapacitates your dragonkin when you're 200 feet up, you're going to be very glad that you have your own fly speed. Or you can send him/her into combat and still fly around to help your dragonkin flank the enemy. Or hop off the first round and use your kinetic blasts while he/she engages the enemy. Just because the dragonkin is helping you get from point A to point B faster doesn't mean you can't still make full use of constant flight under conditions other than traveling.

Yeah, kineticists dont really have the ability to travel quickly until they can use ride the blast without burn. At will always on flight is awesome, but it's not much better than walking for traveling.

In PFS I had a summoner who had a griffon style eidolon and personal flight through the wings evolution. I'd use my wings for an aerial dismount while my eidolon charged flying foes.

So get the dragonkin, use it to attack, and your own flight power to keep safely away while you blast. You DO have precise shot, yes?

If you are an Aerokineticist, then start going for ride the burn. Eventually you will be much faster than anything out there.

Until then, the rest of the party has dragonkin. Dragonkin are large creatures with 26 strength. Unless everybody in the party is obese, you can easily double up on one of them.

He is probably level 6 or so. Assuming air. Because he 'just' got flight, and who would go air and NOT take the wings of air immediately?

He has another 6 levels or so before he can ride the blast (and not familiar with most APs- does this one go past level 12 very far?), so he basically has to double his current play time to get that far. But yes- he will be the fastest person in the party at that point (short of straight long distance teleports), especially as an air user.
