Blood Rager Feat progression - when and how many

Rules Questions

Need some advice please.

I am DMing a new player and was helping build his Bloodrager recently. I am looking for clarification on what feats are available to him and at what level.

He is Level 5, Human, Acarne Blood Line, Primalist archetype.

As a Human he gets 2 feats at first, then one feat at 3rd,5th, 7th, 9th and so on right? And these can be chosen from the general feats all classes can access.

He can also as he is a primalist, swap out a blood line power for 2 barbarian feats at 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th and so on right? Where are these chosen from?

Then he also has access to Bloodline feats at 6th, 9th, 12th, 15th and so on. And these bloodline feats can only be taken from the 'bonus' feats mentioned in his bloodline description right?

It seems to me that this class gets a massive bunch of feats, like wow, thats a lot of feat goodness. I might have it wrong, and that's why I am asking for someone who knows to give me a little guidance.

I am not interested in nerfing the class for my player, I just want to ensure I have it right.

thanks in advance.

For the Primalist he's not getting "barbarian" feats, he's getting Rage Powers that Barbarians and Skalds get.

And the Bonus Bloodline feats can only be selected from the bonus selection mentioned.

Yep, correct Rysky, i used the wrong terminology. Thanks for the correction, it is the rage powers I meant.

Silver Crusade

Np, and I edited my previous post to have a link to the rage powers.

Saw that, thanks.

So his progression would go something like this (below)then right?

Just looking at feats and bloodline powers here (swapped out for Barb rage powers) not the other class improvements that seem pretty clear.

I am referencing the section on character advancement and Ability
scores from CORE for the standard feat progression for all classes and the class description for the other feats, bloodline powers (rage powers)

1st 2 feats + Bloodline power
2nd -
3rd +1 Feat
4th Blood Line power (2 rage powers)
5th +1 feat
6th Blood Line Feat (from the class description)
7th +1 feat
8th Bloodline power (2 rage powers)
9th Bloodline feat and +1 feat
10th -
11th +1 feat
12th Bloodline feat and Bloodline power (2 rage powers)
13th +1 feat
14th -
15th Blood Line feat
16th Bloodline Power (2 rage powers)

Do I have that correct? Not sure our game will get past 16th. :)

Thanks again.

Silver Crusade

Looks good to me :3

And np.

You left off one feat at 15th level. In case extra detail clarifies the feats, here is a more detailed list. "Character feat" means a feat gained from character level, not from the class.

1st: Character feat, human bonus feat, 1st-level bloodline power
2nd:
3rd: Character feat
4th: Either 4th-level bloodline power or 2 rage powers
5th: Character feat
6th: Bloodline feat
7th: Character feat
8th: Either 8th-level bloodline power or 2 rage powers
9th: Character feat, bloodline feat
10th:
11th: Character feat
12th: Bloodline feat, either 12th-level bloodline power or 2 rage powers
13th: Character feat
14th:
15th: Character feat, bloodline feat
16th: Either 16th-level bloodline power or 2 rage powers

That is a lot of feats and potential rage powers. A barbarian gains one rage power at every even class level, and the primalist bloodrager can match that with some delays by giving up all bloodline powers except the 1st-level one. A sorcerer gains one bloodline feat at 7th, 13th, and 19th levels for a total of three bloodline feats, and the bloodrager gains one bloodline feat at 6th, 9th, 12th, 15th, and 18th levels for a total of five bloodline feats. However, that is five feats out of a list of seven feats, so the bloodrager might end up choosing some feats that don't appeal to the character.

If you think it's a lot of feats look at a base fighter

1st: Character feat, human bonus feat, fighter feat
2nd: fighter feat
3rd: Character feat
4th: fighter feat
5th: Character feat
6th: fighter feat
7th: Character feat
8th: fighter feat
9th: Character feat
10th: fighter feat
11th: Character feat
12th: fighter feat
13th: Character feat
14th: fighter feat
15th: Character feat, bloodline feat
16th: fighter feat

That's three feats at lv1 and another feat every level!!!

I agree. A fighter receives 10 feats from his class while a bloodrager receives 5 feats from his class. There is no contest, and since ranger receives 5 combat style feats, 5 bonus feats is not even exceptional. Nevertheless, I was surprised to see bloodrager, a hybrid class, give out so many feats when its parent classes, barbarian and sorcerer, give fewer.

The only bonus feats Bloodrager gives is the Bloodline feats, which are the same amount of bonus feats that the Sorcerer gets.

Nope.

I was surprised because I assumed that myself before reading the details of the class.

Sorcerer, from Core Rulebook wrote:
At 7th level, and every six levels thereafter, a sorcerer receives one bonus feat, chosen from a list specific to each bloodline. The sorcerer must meet the prerequisites for these bonus feats.
Bloodrager, from Advanced Class Guide wrote:
At 6th level and every 3 levels thereafter, a bloodrager receives one bonus feat chosen from a list specific to each bloodline. The bloodrager must meet the prerequisites for these bonus feats.

Sorcerer gains 3 feats from a list of 8 bloodline feats. Bloodrager gains 5 feats from a list of 7 bloodline feats. The bloodrager bloodline feat lists are strongly based on the sorcerer bloodline feat list of the same name, but the spellcasting feats are swapped out.

Silver Crusade

Whazhuh? Wow, my bad.

I could have sworn Sorcerer and Bloodrager had the same bonus feat progression.

That's f$+@ed up.

Thanks for the input all. Appreciate the advice. Very helpful.

And thanks for the pick up Mathmuse.
