Oh you so and so...

I took advantage of the weekend sale to get the Hobby Lobby insert (plus a 40% coupon for the case itself), which is en route, so your post just scared the chits out of me.

I still haven't gotten around to the paper & tape method to pull the outer sides together, so the image still shows balsa wood shims on the side (and these have been effective). Also, the way in which I've organized the cards mitigates the problem of the wood dividers - by not having any dividers near the middle of the outer left column (where the problem mostly resides).

As you can see, you can get an entire adventure path (base set, character add-on deck, six adventure decks, promo cards, and room for OP Season of the Righteous cards when those are eventually released) into the Broken Token organizer with all of the cards in sleeves and organized in a fashion that makes sense (well, it makes sense to me).

I've created my own dividers using Microsoft Word. There is a basic divider for each card type (e.g., Location, Weapon). For most of the card types, there are also dividers to allow for Basic and Elite cards to be held when they are eventually removed as well as for each of the adventure levels. This supports organized play fairly well, allowing the owner to add/remove cards and have them in designated locations. The dividers are simply printed on normal paper, laminated, and then cut out. For the most part, they are very simple in order to use less ink - nothing more than the color for the card type across the top with the card type name in white within the bar (you can see it in the "Season" card in the second column from the left).

The only place where I made the dividers a little more fancy was for the character cards, with the adventure path logo appearing below the character's name. The class deck cards have the name of the class deck instead of the logo. This allows for easy distinction between the character source (for either organized play or when using a character from another set/deck in regular play).

Note that I put the divider behind the cards to which it applies. So all of the weapon cards in play are in front of the "Weapon" divider.

You can also see the character stands I made in three of the character deck slots. I'm running Balazar, Crowe, and Imrijka through the AP right now, so the other three slots were open. I used 25mm round bases and cardstock with images of the characters and their names (the images are from the iconics image download pack). These take up less room on the table, provide distinct visibility of each character's location, and are easier to move than the standard token cards. Other players have created similar character stands, so I don't see a need to upload my own for download (though I might post pictures in case anyone wants to see them - and I may upload them if there is interest).

Currently, the Villain, Henchman, Cohort, and Location cards don't have the Basic, Elite, etc. dividers. Each of these card types is organized into their respective section with all of the cards of that type, regardless of level, alphabetized. Since I plan on uploading my dividers to the Board Game Geek in case anyone else wants to use them, I might add the Basic and 1-6 dividers for these card types in case other players want to break them down.

The Broken Token organizer adds a little weight over the stock plastic insert, but the majority of additional weight as added by all of the cards. Overall, though, the ability to have all cards organized instead of in their boxes (when using some sort of divider system) makes The Broken Token organizer a great accessory. The other company's organizer looks to be similarly good - I use TBT's for no other reason than it was the one that my local game store had in stock. Regardless, I highly recommend either of these organizers to other players if they plan on getting adventure decks 2-6 (you don't need these if you're sticking to the base set and character add-on decks). All in all, I completely concur with IIISantosIII's endorsement.

Dang, Brother T! You have that sucker jammed! Lol. It's good to see that they all fit while sleeved!

With the redesign of the game and the new (?) box size(s), I'm hoping to see The Broken Token (and other companies) get early access so that they can design appropriate organizers. Even better would be a partnership with Paizo/Lone Shark to make this happen in a way that supports how the redesigned game box will be used (for example, I sleeve all of my cards and have my organizers).

And since the link to the image in my post above is broken, here it is again: I hope this one works

That's the first version of the organizer from TBT in WotR. TBT improved upon it with the second version, and then again with the third version. I'm looking forward to the redux when New PACG hits my gaming table.

(I could have started a new discussion, but I figured this was an acceptable time to necro a topic ;) ).

What would you think should change?

I'd prefer that the default box be accommodating enough to hold a fully-sleeved set of cards rather than having to rely on Broken Token or other aftermarket inserts. I really like the current setup with areas that are divided and some sort of divider (whether it be separate spaces like it currently is or cardboard dividers that stick out a bit more if it's just one big area).

Areas that I'd need/use:
1. Locations
2. Other support cards (cohorts and whatever set-specific support cards there are)
3. Monsters
4. Barriers
5. Villains
6. Henchmen
7. Weapons
8. Spells
9. Armor
10. Items
11. Allies
12. Blessings
13. Loot
14. Character decks
15. Removed from game area

Things that I'd like to see replaced:
1. Space to store the individual add-on deck / adventure deck boxes. Storing the boxes themselves only works if you don't sleeve, as sleeved cards don't fit back into them. As such, I'd rather see just an area designated for future adventure decks that is fitted to hold cards instead of boxes. That said, some people probably like keeping the boxes themselves so if the space works for both, all the better. The current space doesn't work very well for cards that aren't in boxes due to the angled jagged bottom.

I didn't specify scenarios above because those are now going into a booklet form according to a recent blog post :)

Is the Base Set box (still) going to be sized to hold itself and a full Adventure Path set? Both when sleeved? Both when double-sleeved? Both and any other planned add-ons?

It's hard to give useful advice when the packaging methods and card mixes are changing so much, unfortunately.

Disclaimer > I’m limited to what I’ve seen in the forums and blog posts, so a lot of what follows is simply speculation and assumption.

I see two boxes (or box types). The first is the core set and the second (type) is for each adventure path. I’m not sure if the implementation will be for the adventure path cards to be added to the core set or vice versa, but one of the boxes will need to be big enough to accommodate all of the cards, ideally allowing them to be sleeved. From a cost and space standpoint, I would see the core set as the more likely of the two to be physically larger. The larger box size would most likely be comparable to what we have now (the difference being that the space in the insert that is currently used for the additional decks will probably be converted to the additional space for the “story” elements (and my assumption is that this space will also absorb the space that is currently set aside for the adventure path, adventure, and scenario cards). The smaller box (the AP box, I assume) need only be large enough for its contents, also (ideally) allowing the cards to be sleeved for storage. For both boxes, I’d like to see a little more depth added – maybe ¼” to ½” – to accommodate dividers. If the added story requires more space, you might even have to increase the box depth to accommodate the additional material. Lots of hobbyists, including me, use homemade dividers or buy third party dividers, but the current box depth limits the size and type of dividers that can be used. I could see a market for Paizo to make dividers available as an optional add-on (like the licensed mats), but I’m happy using my own.

I don’t see the current style of vacuum formed plastic insert working in the core box. Currently, the inserts have slight differences due to the ratio of card types in each adventure path. So where Rise of the Runelords might have a certain number of total weapon cards, Mummy’s Mask has a different number of weapon cards, resulting in the inserts for the APs being slightly different. This aspect actually makes me re-think my assumption that the core set will be the larger box to which AP cards are added. If you make the AP boxes larger, you can include inserts that accommodate all of the cards for the AP, including the core cards. If the core box is larger, the insert would have to sized generically, allowing flexibility in the number of cards of each type.

Another downside to the official inserts is that they are fixed, limiting players’ storage/organization options. Above, skizzerz recommended the addition of an area for cards that are removed from the game. Some players don’t organize their cards that way. For example, I simply place cards that have been removed from play behind my dividers. So a fixed insert that includes the section skizzerz requested doesn’t work for me (and others) whereas a fixed insert that doesn’t include such a section doesn’t work for skizzerz (and others). There might be some sort of compromise (but I’m unable to come up with one at the moment), but a fixed vacuum formed plastic insert is going to limit some segment of the player base.

The current crop of after-market customizable organizer inserts is the bridge. It would be too expensive to make these an integral part of the boxes, but they are great as an add-on. The ability to customize them would allow the core set, if it is the larger box, to be adjusted as necessary for the AP. And I could see the companies that produce these organizers making organizers for both box types. After all, when I remove the Curse of the Crimson Throne cards from my PACG core set, I’m going to need to store them. And when it comes time to add an AP’s cards to the core set, it will be much easier for hobbyists if the AP box has the cards organized and divided.

And to repeat for emphasis, the key thing to me is that the boxes are large enough to store all of the cards sleeved (and any other materials that come in the boxes). The current insert doesn’t do that, so players that sleeve all of their cards have to rely on other storage solutions. The box itself is big enough so that the organizer from The Broken Token is sufficient. The changes to the materials may necessitate some changes to the box dimensions, but I’m not in the know on what those might be. ;)

My point with the post above is simply that if there are changes to the size of the box(es) (length and width), bringing third party organizer manufacturers in a bit early will allow them to create organizers tailored to the new (?) box(es) so that players aren’t forced to wait an extended period of time. Realistically, if all that changes is game box depth/height and the story materials are stored on top of the insert/organizer, the current crop of organizers might not need to be changed/augmented.

Scarab Sages

Third party organizers are nice for the bling, but it would probably be totally do-able to make a decent, functional way to organize the cards without one. I personally liked the card-sized mini box and the colorful dividers included with Thornwatch; a few of those, sized to fit the entire box, could be the "box insert" we're all looking for.

And now that the Core Set and Curse of the Crimson Throne are showing on the products page (preorder expected in May 2019!), it looks like the Core Set is definitely in a smaller box (so my guess above was wrong). However, I'll still want to organize my cards in the Core Set, so hopefully The Broken Token will be able to prepare an organizer for that set.

It's difficult to tell if the Curse of the Crimson Throne box is a different shape from the Mummy's Mask, et al. The box is upright in the picture, and the artwork is more vertical in nature, making it appear to be a slightly different shape from the Mummy's Mask box. Hopefully it's an illusion (or delusion). If it's not, though, and the box is different, then hopefully The Broken Token is able to prepare a new organizer for that box, too.

It would be nice to have any new organizers available at kickoff time.

Woot! Preorder placed :-)
