With the unfortunate state of PFO I seriously ask the community here to consider looking at the upcoming Lovecraft medieval fantasy mmo Revival, its going to offer alot of the same opportunities that PFO has along with having servers that will be staffed by an active Storyteller team similar to teams found on NWN PW servers. The game is being made by the former lead developers of RIFT and will NOT be Kickstarted. Seriously check it out!
One last thing, the game will be using a similar character creator to Traveller the pen and paper game!

That...actually seems pretty alluring. I'd decided a while back that MMOs weren't for me, but this...particularly their unabashed and articulate dissing of so many of the memes that ruined it all for me (although I'm more inclined to blame an emergent hivemind of willful and dogmatic second-rate gamers rather than the design of the games themselves for all that), makes me VERY curious at the very least. Besides, "medieval Lovecraftian fantasy" - how could I say no?

That just screams Sandbox MMO Heartbreaker from people who stubbornly refuse to accept that things have moved on since Ultima Online.
"Things have moved on" in what direction, though? Just because you don't like the way things have gone doesn't make you an irrational knee-jerk conservative "grognard." Sometimes bad ideas unjustly beat out better ones.

Oh, SWG.
How you were my first love and my first loathe, the best of worlds, the worst of worlds.
From being able to solo, to being nerfed to bantha poodoo in the Combat Downgrade...
You are both missed and remembered fondly as the first steps into a bigger virtual series of worlds.
That aside, there's an MMO out there already that kind of delves into the 'bump in the night' sort of thing with a 'craftian vibe to it called TSW.
Mileage may vary there, of course.

Yes, yes, the Market is our Lord and Savior, all hail and obey....
Actually, I believe the line is from a work by a group of less than ten-inch nails... something about bowing down and getting something deserve something?
It was twenty something years ago when I heard that sucker last, so I could be off.

Comparing a themepark like TSW to a sandbox Multiplayer Online Evolving World like Revival is pretty much like....;
Comparing SWG to TOR...
Sure both have lightsabers but are they the same type of games?

Honestly, I don't get it. A Lovecraftian game sounds awesome, but... must it be an MMO? I can't reconcile "having good time with friends and socializing the video game experience" (which, to be honest, already sounds atrocious to me - not much of an MMO fiend, I confess) with "Cosmic horror about the insignificance of human experience". No way the two mash together well, and that causes me to doubt the understanding of the genre by the makers of the game.

The conceivable counterargument being, if you're going to gaze into the abyss, perhaps it's better to do so with a friend.
And with a backup therapist and a warm pink safe place nearby where they make hot chocolate with marshmallows in it and give me a kitten to pat, yes. But feeling nice and fuzzy isn't what I turn to Lovecraft for, now is it?

The crafting system in particular screams tedium.
Ultima Online is actually the only MMO I've ever enjoyed.
Despite free full loot PVP being the dumbest thing ever conceived by a game designer.
