Brotherhood of the Seven - are they known in Magnimar?

Rise of the Runelords

Hey guys, just a short question:

What does the normal magnimarian citizen know about the Brotherhood of the Seven? Does he even know that this organization exist?

One of my PCs grew up in Magnimar, so what should i tell him? Does he know the Brotherhood of the Seven? If he knew them, WHAT would he know?

Didn't rly find an answer for this in the AE Edition Book.

The AE does describe B7 as a 'semi-secret society' (pg 112) and 'a secretive gentlemen's club based in Magnimar and consisting of merchants or thieves, depending on whom you talk to' (Pg 88).

So, the PC would probably know B7 in that way.

Nice, thank you very much.

Is it known that Ironbriar is part of the Brotherhood?

:D sry, im rly wondering

They're basically the Elks Club (as far as anyone knows.)

My understanding is no one but the Brotherhood knows who the other members are. But yes, their existence is known in Magnimar, but not their true nature. I imagine there's lots of members of Magnimar's noble society actively seeking membership, but not realizing what that actually entails.

I suppose it's something like the Bilberberg club, or the freemasons, or something like that.

Assumibg that "the Seven's Sawmill" is cslked like that by the common people, it'll means that the 7 have properties, business and assets bought by them. The nembers, though, aren't publicly known.

They've been active for many years, so underworld contacts might well have considerable knowledge, even to the extent of the association with

Spoiler:
Norgerber, but not the Thassilon/Sin connection

I even made the posted name of the sawmill a transparent association: the seven brothers sawmill. AFAIK the public name of the place is never actually mentioned in the AP.

My players are convinced that the Scarnettis are behind it all. If they get worked up into too much of a frenzy, I may even validate some of their suspicions.

There are so many good conspiracy angles to exploit in the Magnimar chapter that it's a shame not to dig deeper and play into some of the players' suspicions. I'm thinking we may well have several non-AP sessions in Magnimar after Xanesha falls, just to explore the corruption angle.

Has anyone gone this route?
