natural attack ? for grapple with white haired witch.

Rules Questions

so im building my natural attack and hes coming along nicely now i need to know how grappling works via witch hair and full attacking. for this build im using warpriest fighter witch rogue.

so
round one you make a full attack claw claw bite hair make your grapple check succeed so your opponent is now grappled.

round 2 can you still make a full attack but without the hair attack added in as in claw claw bite and would you be able to sneak attack while he's grappled.

round 3 can you make a full attack on a pinned opponent thats pinned by your hair meaning your not part of the grapple and thus get claw claw bite sneak ?

fyi all these attacks are primary none are secondary.

Quote:
Instead of attempting to break or reverse the grapple, you can take any action that doesn't require two hands to perform, such as cast a spell or make an attack or full attack with a light or one-handed weapo against any creature within your reach, including the creature that is grappling you

One thing you can not do, that you suggested, is get sneak attack without additional conditions. Grappled does not deny des and does not cause flank.

Quote:
Grappled: A grappled creature is restrained by a creature, trap, or effect. Grappled creatures cannot move and take a –4 penalty to Dexterity. A grappled creature takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and combat maneuver checks, except those made to grapple or escape a grapple. In addition, grappled creatures can take no action that requires two hands to perform. A grappled character who attempts to cast a spell or use a spell-like ability must make a concentration check (DC 10 + grappler's CMB + spell level), or lose the spell. Grappled creatures cannot make attacks of opportunity.

Full round natural attack, except hair, yes. Sneak attack, no. Though there is a brawler archetype, I believe, that gives sneak attack for maintaining a grapple.

The only other issue is maintaining the grapple,

Quote:
If you do not release the grapple, you must continue to make a check each round, as a standard action, to maintain the hold. If your target does not break the grapple, you get a +5 circumstance bonus on grapple checks made against the same target in subsequent rounds.

So without the grapple line of feats, you will not be able to make the full attack action while maintaining your grapple.

What would work with this build is, full round attack then grapple with hair, your turn, free action to release grapple, full round attack then grapple with hair. It is denial of action with added damage. Only issue is if you do not succeed in the grapple.

ok for most part i understand it then but what i don't understand is why no full attack while you maintain a grapple because under the white haired witch you yourself are not under the grapple conditions just your hair.

You are correct, the white witch is not grappled. The rule lands strictly in raw, maintaining a grapple is a standard action. To maintain a gepple is a standard action, it does not matter if you if have the grappled condition.

oh ok so only making a grapple is free but to maintain or pin is a standard action gotcha.

so if i want to do what i have planned ill have to take the greater grapple route to make full attacks on a grappled opponent.

Greater Grapple only reduces maintain to a move action.
You can still make one attack with your standard, but not full attack.

oh so it takes a full move action and not equivalant to a 5 ft step action which still allows a full attack ?

so could i for example do hair attack make the grapple attempt then claw claw bite ?

A 5ft is a miscellaneous action that can be taken when you don't otherwise move any distance.

I know of no way to reduce maintaining a grapple to a free/swift action in order to enable a full attack during the same round.

However, you can release your current grapple as a free action which should allow you to attack with your hair each round (but this risks missing and/or failing the grapple check).

Alternatively, nothing actually stops you from making a full attack other than automatically ending the grapple when your turn concludes without successfully maintaining it.

ok so could i do hair grapple claw claw bite or do the other attacks get negated as soon as one enters a grapple ?

You should be able to complete your full attack, especially if you do not gain the grappled condition.

ok thanks

so if i grapple with hair first all my next attacks would be at +4 correct ?

Their AC is reduced by 2 by virtue of penalizing Dex by 4.

Your bonus doesn't actually change that I see.

oh ok so i only get +2 to those other 3 attacks if the grapple hits because of the lost dex

If that's the way you need to think about it, the math is equivalent.

ok thanks this is helping me understand the mechanic more so my guy wont be how i want him per say but hell still cause havoc to the other guy since hell have to escape the grapple.
