What substances can you apply to a weapon for a temporary boost?

Rules Questions

Hello everyone,

So, i'm currently DM'g a campaign where one of my players is a big fan of the Dark Souls games. He recently asked me what items exist that he can apply to his weapon to increase it's attack, it's damage or both for a limited time, just like the pine resins in dark souls which add elemental damage to a weapon temporarily when applied to it.

So far all i've been able to find is:

-Ifrit's blood (+1 fire damage)
-Salve of Exemplar weapon (Masterwork quality to a normal weapon, so it's kind of like a +1 to attack, though it isnt temporary)
-Holy weapon balm (+2d4 against undead)

Do any of you know about other items, substances and things like this? he only wants attack and damage, so poisons wont work.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm not super familiar with the items, so Im not sure of the location or the specific effects, but I know there are weapon blanches that have different affects. I want to say one of them treats weapons like they are made of special materials? Someone will correct me, I'm sure.

Edit: A quick look tells me that these only make the weapon deal damage as if made of different materials. So that's a no go. Sorry!

I actually hadnt thought about oils, thanks for that. but one thing that worries me is that, according to d20pfsrd.com:

"The person applying an oil is the effective caster, but the object is the target."

In this case, the player is a half-orc fighter with no levels in any caster class, would oils work for him?

I imagine a wand would work just fine as long as he has ranks in UMD, am i right?

The effect of the oil is dependent on the creator of the oil. For a typical Oil of Magic Weapon, the creator is Caster Level 1, so the oil would last 1 minute.

The clause about the person applying the oil being the caster is to clarify spell effects that mention the caster, such as Shrink Item. Your half-orc fighter should be able to use the Oil of Magic Weapon without problems.

The whetstone is probably the simplest example possible.

You can apply alchemical items, but you need to be a Grenadier Alchemist to do so.
