Who works on designing the Pathfinder ACG now?

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

I was wondering who the main designers of the ACG are nowadays. I saw that Mike is working on his own thing so I wasn't sure if he'd still be designing the ACG APs.

The team is still intact. On the Lone Shark side it's Mike, Gaby, Chad, Liz, Paul, and Keith. On the Paizo side it's me, Vic, Brian, and a mighty horde of production staff.

I am going to be working on the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game till they drag me bodily from the building. Same for the rest of my team.

And boy, we will keep buying it!

(I will also buy Mike's own thing, but just not pledge due to shipping, but I've heard on BGG that they're working on that! Hoozah!)

What is the future of PACG? How many more AP are in this moment planned ?
WotR is in print, next AP WIP...

I have a question for the design team since they do both games. Are there any mechanics or design you would like to transfer over to PACG from Mike's own thing? And how likely or unlikely are those to happen?

For example, the ability to be able to play PACG with a GM. I know that's kind of counter intuitive and might as well play the RPG itself, but it can be interesting to have a GM set up exactly which card are encountered in what order instead of random. I guess we could always do a homebrew but Mike's own thing got me quite intrigued.

It seems that the game is highly influenced by PACG, and I am just wondering if the opposite is possible in which PACG can learn something from it too.

What's this "Mike's own thing" people are talking about?

Looks really cool, just backed it! I'm glad people mentioned if, didn't know this existed. At the $99 level right now, May do the $333 depending on what money looks like in a month.

Mike, isn't there a way I can send you $99 through my laptop and we'll figure the shipping out later? ^^'

Is apocrypha only a base set with adventure packs limited to one adventure path?

Or will it be like PACG a card game where every other year a new adventure path will be released?
One-hit-wonder or game series?

The next AP will probably be revealed at PaizoCon.

I guess that will depend entirely on the success of the game that is now in Kickstarter.

We are working on designing the 4th and 5th adventure paths for PACG. We have a long way to go on both, though the 4th is looking really, really good.

I don't want to get too much into Apocrypha because this is the Pathfinder forum, and it should stay about Pathfinder. Wrath of the Righteous is what I want to talk about here, because it's bonkers good.

I'll only say that Apocrypha is the game we were playing BEFORE there was a Pathfinder ACG. PACG developed out of that, and then Apocrypha went a whole lot of very different directions. I would not say there's anything in the rules that I want to transfer from one to the other, because they are very different experiences. That said: If people want to kit-bash the two games, I'm not going to stand in the way, because that might be very interesting.

Though there really is a very good RPG you can play in the Pathfinder universe.

Here's a similar question: how much input do you guys have on the forthcoming PACG app? I assume that all the behind-the-scenes work is done by Obsidian, but do you have any creative / design input?

Note to self : remember to start bribing Tanis, Paul and all the others to get to know what not-this-Mike is not telling.

I was checking the new thing!

It seems like the Darkest Night "Exhaust" and MTG "Tap" on the first glimpse.
So two words which mean the same but are spelled differently like

PACG/Apocrypha
------------------------
Adventure/Chapter
Scenario/Mission
Villain/Master
Henchmen/Minion
Location/Nexus
Character card/Character card
Blessings Deck/Omen Deck
Boon cards/Gift cards
Etc.

I looks like a similar game, like e.g. defenders of the Realm and Pandemic.
Defenders is like PACG fantasy based and Pandemic like Aprocrypha apocalypsy based.
Same game just another taste and theme, but most likely similar on the first glimpse.
There will be 8 more introductory videos... Hopefully they will shade more light on the differences.

So far you have check boxes in PACG and no check boxes in Apocrypha... That is what i learnt in the short time interval between milk feeding my twins ;)

Not to talk more about Apocrypha on a Pathfinder thread (which is nonetheless what I'm going to do), but to show how good can come out of horrible: Since this was the only thread on the PACG forum that wasn't pre-empted for Korean spam, I decided to read it. And the result was that I learned about Apocrypha and discovered it looked awesome. So backing totally happened, and I'm really excited for it.

Are you saying Not-this-Mike managed to trick North Korean politicians into hacking Paizo so that people learn about the other stuff?
This man never ceases to amaze me.

Is Hawkmoon also working for Paizo? ;)

Depends on whether you think an AI "works" for its creator.

I'm glad I got so many responses but with them planning a 4th and 5th game I can only wonder how successful the ACG is! I'm hoping the answer is: "very" because I'd love it if the game lasted for a long time.

Me too. Just got twins and they start gaming PACG in round about eight years... So lets keep the fingers crossed.

I wrote this in response to a question somebody else had about how Apocrypha might affect the PACG and PFSACG Org Play, but I realized that the people reading this thread might want to read it too:

Vic Wertz wrote:

...if you're worrying about Lone Shark's ability to juggle these projects with their PACG work, don't: Lone Shark does a *lot* of stuff other than the PACG. It's just that much of it comes in the form of special events rather than products (so it may not be as visible to the world at large), and the products they've designed prior to this—apart from the Maze of Games—have been published by other companies.

In truth, they're committed to the PACG more than ever before. In the past few months, Lone Shark has increased the number of people working on the PACG by 2, and they have already begun designing the set after the set after Wrath. We see a long, fruitful future together.

As for the effect on the PFSACG program, Lone Shark actually had relatively little to do with Season 0; Tanis is responsible for the vast majority of it. Lone Shark will actually be helping a little bit more with Season 1 than they did with Season 0.

And in case you're curious, we've known about this for quite some time. The Pathfinder ACG began when Lone Shark brought the game that would become Apocrypha to us, saying (more or less) "We're working on this game that we know isn't quite right for you, but we think we can make a game *like* it for Pathfinder that you will love."

And when it comes to competition, I believe that Magic: The Gathering actually benefited quite a bit from the existence of other trading card games. By itself, M:TG was a successful game, but it couldn't be the cornerstone of a genre until there were other TCG/CCGs. This is why we didn't trademark "Adventure Card Game"—I'd love it if, in a few years, there are a handful of ACGs in existence, giving added weight to our game.

Adventure Card Game Designer

That's a really nice thing to say, Vic. Thanks!

If you would like to play PACG WotR, PACG OP Season 1 and Apocrypha at the same time in parallel, it is simply IMO not possible. You have to decide for one or maximum for two "adventures/chapters".

So I have time due to the twins only for one path atm, so my decision is definetly PACG WotR and I will follow (most probably not play Season 1). That leaves me for NOW no more time for Apocrypha (may be in a year@the release date - twins related). However, I am interested and following the kickstarter how a second similar game concept develops and is supported by backers. For now, there are so many open questions about Apocrypha which will hopefully be answered in the upcoming kickstarter videos (i sent several questions to their kickstarter contact address to support/improve their kickstarter page).

Well, in around twenty days we will see if all 9 chapters (stretch goals) will be unlocked. If successful, then there is enough time to sleep over a signed master edition ;-) by the chief designer. Hopefully till then, they have more information about the master edition ready:
What are the exclusive/premium addons in detail compared to the standard edition (table of comparison)? How does the inside of The Master Edition Book look like? Do you love the art/design of the premium components to be convinced spending the 333 USD? Are there special sleeves? Are there special 3x3 sleeves for the character card or do you have to buy the 3x3 ultra pro sleeve separately? What are the customized dice looking? Will Apocrypha be a one-time-game or will there be like PACG new adventure paths yearly available ? If yearly, so will there be follow-up Master Editions for every new adventure path? Will it become ever translated into German for my twins such as PACG (however, i love to play the original version)? More questions over questions etc....

All you need to know before deciding to buy the 99 or the 333 USD version.

Already got feedback from the kickstarter contact. Wow, that was fast!

Soon sample pictures of the Master Edition and its premium content will be uploaded on kickstarter. So far just one story arc of 9 chapters planned. Future will tell more. The story arc will be nonlinear. Each chapter is a different story. There are more missions (scenarios) in one chapter (adventure) as there are in PACG. Only 75 cards per Chapter compared to 109 of PACG. Further, soon some news will be released regarding the 3x3 character sleeve...
No card sleeves are included in the Master Edition, but are considered for space reasons in the book/box design (big pro for Apo and con for PACG box insert).

Myfly: There is absolutely no need for a 3x3 card sleeve page in PACG.
