Looking for GM for a PbP Giantslayer campaign

Recruitment

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16

Hello all you lovely GMs out there!

My friend and I are looking for a GM that would be willing to run the Giantslayer adventure path for us over PbP here on the Paizo forums. We have a pair of character concepts very fleshed out and would like to use them for fun and profit. Here are the characters:

Racket
Grok

What we look for in a GM:
-Relatively quick updates (once every day or two minimum, once a day would be excellent)
-Willing to roleplay NPCs
-Won't get angry at us if we completely destroy an encounter or two (we're not min-maxers necessarily, but we're experienced and know how to build useful characters)

What you can expect from us (and what we would expect from other recruited players):
-Very quick updates (at least once per day if the game can keep pace, and we will let you know if there will be a lull in posting)
-High RP (both with NPCs and between each other)
-General awesomeness (if you'd like references, feel free to click on any of my other aliases or I can have one of our other PbP GM's jump in here and tell you we're good players :) )

You, as the GM, could decide how many others to recruit, though I feel that a group of 5-6 is ideal for an adventure path. You can also feel free to use any map-making system you like, we'll adapt accordingly.

Thank you in advance, and I look forward to gaming with you!

"I am Grok"

Checking in here. I will be playing Grok in this game. I just wanted to chime in a bit.

Cartmanbeck and I are experienced players in both rl and pbp, on both sides of the GM screen. We have taken the opportunity to make character with co-inspired backstories, but we are looking to fill out a whole team, not just "some people to fill the other slots." We intend to make this game as fun as possible for both the GM and players.

This is an adventure path that both of were very excited to play as soon as we heard it was being released. These characters have been made and in waiting weeks before the module even shipped.

If other players are seeing this posting, and might want to join, feel free to post concepts. That being said, without a GM it could take a while before we get started.

Hey guys, I tried to get into a recent Giantslayer but didn't make it myself. More than willing to throw my hat into the ring for this even though there's no GM (hopefully not for long)

I came up with the idea of a sort of Russian inspired guy who wants nothing more than to wrestle with Giants. I really like the concept and hope you two and some GM would like to play with him as well.

Background:

I am a stranger to this land but I can already tell that it is no stranger to me. Haha! If there are big things to fight then it feels like home. I am born and grown of Port Ice in the North of Brevoy where all men and women are big and strong.

Even in Port Ice my size and strength were of note. More than 7 feet tall and more than 200 pounds my Da said to me "Boy, they say my great grandmother was a giant and I look at you and think the story must be true.. You were not meant to be fisherman or sailor." and he was right. The only thing else to do there was gamble and fight. Haha! I did both. I bet on myself and made myself many silver pieces. For my Ma and Da too for they came to bet and cheer me on whenever they could find time from their ship repairing and fish cleaning. I set myself goal of earning them enough that they can retire and rest easy.

Once that was done I grow bored with fighting. It is too easy! I started drinking more heavily and started even losing fights! Hah! My Ma set me straight, as all mothers should, "Boy" she said "You are too large for this place. You have already done your duty by us and it breaks my heart to see you waste away here. Go. You were meant for greater things than Port Ice."

This new goal invigorated me. I got back into shape even more fierce than before and left. I had heard tell of the wonders of the warmer lands so I went south and soon I got to place where melted puddles were actually warm and then there is no ice at all! I do not like it. Worse I find nothing good to fight and resorted to hunting and wrestling animals for sport. I heard of some problem in town named Trunau where there is much need for big and strong people. I say to myself "Zavier Vitoly. This sounds like the place for you." And so I, the Giant of Port Ice, am here. The people here are not as big as my people but they are strong fighters. I think for now I have found where I should be!

PERSONALITY:
Zavier Vitoly is a large and gregarious soul. Always up for a laugh and a drink and more importantly a fight. He's wise enough to know what he's good at and what he's not good at and so very sensibly focuses on his strengths. He's not the smartest person around and his rough manner is just a bit offputting but people who get past that find him to be a steadfast and loyal friend. Right now he's intersted in pitting himself against the orcs but when he runs across his first giant his goal is going to change into proving himself in combat against these fearsome creatures.

I think he's pretty iconic, maybe not Pathfinder iconic. I think the inspiration is pretty obvious though. :)

I can commit to posting at least once a day. If you look over my posting history I think it's a pretty good one with a lot of different concepts all active in their respective game threads. I enjoy the role playing aspects of the game as much as the rolling and fighting.

Huh, I expected a lot more interest in this. Oh well, *bump* perhaps people were in the wrong time zone. :-D

Liberty's Edge

Potentially interested as GM.

What'd be great would be if you two had two other players you worked well with. My experience with PbPs suggest that the GM is the #1 force necessary in keeping a game running, but it really really helps if the players keep it active.

It sounds like you guys are committed to that. Things work best if everybody's play styles are similar, which is why it'd be great if you had specific players you two wanted to recruit in.

I really like having interaction with the world, NPCs with personality, and that sort of thing. Combat and all of that is fun, but what I'm really in all of this for is the story of it all, and the intrigue. It's more fun if there are NPCs that the PCs get to know, and that seem like people.

Once every day or two I can do. There will often be times when I can post more frequently, but there will be the occasional three-day gap. Please nag me if I've been too long. I should warn you that this coming weekend, I'm GMing three PFS games and playing in three more at a local Con, so I'll probably be completely offline from Friday through Sunday.

I don't mind if players curbstomp encounters, but I get sad if it seems like they're never challenged-- mostly because at that point I worry that the game might get boring for everybody. If it looks like you guys are finding things too easy, I might step up the challenge notch a bit.

There are a couple of third-party rules that I like to use. One is Jason Buhlman's "Underlings" rules, which I find is a nicer way to have lots of minion types in a combat. Players don't even really need to know about that, but it's something I might sub in. I'm also attracted to some of Rogue Genius/Super Genius' item things, such as Rune Staves, Wyrd Wands, and Apeiron Staves, although that wouldn't matter until slightly higher level, and I wouldn't use them if the players weren't interested. I've also been known to pull out the occasional monster template from a third-party work to mix things up. How much that happens will depend on how much the AP is working "straight" vs. how much some powering-up of the encounters is necessary.

Liberty's Edge

Grok must have an interesting family tree, what with being touched by the Earth elemental plane, being Giant-Blooded, and being Dwarf-Blooded!

*Waves at Bartan*

If you guys need another I'd join, this is Hajar from the LoF game.

Thanks rknop, and we will do our best to pull in others who can interact meaningfully with our characters. Niles would be one of them. Azih also sounds like a strong roleplayer, so I'd advocate for Zavier as well, but you're the GM so you're the one who gets to pick players, not me. :)

@Niles: Do you have a character concept in mind yet?

Liberty's Edge

I'm happy to go with those four players.

Let's plan on the game starting rolling next week, with with my Con this weekend.

@Cartman Well looks like Grok is gonna roll a melee bruiser and you have skills taken care of. I said in the other thread I wanted to make a Druid....so that is what I'll do. Probably a Mountain Druid Archetype and a domain...

And this trait

Trunau Native::

You were born and raised in the town
of Trunau, one of the few human settlements in the orc dominated
Hold of Belkzen. Orc attacks are an ever-present
threat, and like all Trunauans, you have made the Standing
Vow: to hold Trunau against all attackers, orc or otherwise, to
stand your ground, and to live free or die trying. Upon coming
of age, you were given a hopeknife—a small, sheathed dagger,
usually worn on a chain under your clothes—and taught how
to use it to take your own life to avoid capture by orcs, or to
grant the mercy of a quick death to the wounded. As a native,
you have served in Trunau’s militia, and fought alongside
Patrol Captains Kurst and Rodrik Grath. You begin play with
a hopeknife (a masterwork dagger), and your tenacity in the
face of adversity grants you a +1 trait bonus on Will saves.

Dark Archive

If I may, I'd like to dot interest with a half-orc magus in mind. I'd say more, but I'm going to work soon and won't be able to post more in depth with the concept till late tonight or late tomorrow.

If interested, please say so. If not, also say so. Either way, best of luck and happy gaming.

Liberty's Edge

Ideally, I'd like to roll with four players. If they're active, I find that a PbP runs better with four rather than six players; it's also what APs are written for. It sounds like this game is full... but if something falls through, I'll let you know, TheChelaxian.

For Niles' nascent druid, Zavier, Racket, and Grok:

Here is the gameplay thread -- I'll post a starting post there when we're ready to go next week. Feel free to post a "dot" post with your character's alias there if you want to get the game on your campaign list.

Here is the Discussion thread -- feel free to drop in there and post whatever.

Wohoo. Will create an alias right away, thanks very much for the initiative cartman and jooker as well as for running rknop.
