Couple of beginers questions

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

We recently bought S&S and are still trying to work out the kinks and figure how things should work. So we would like to have a few clarifications on how things work:

1. Jirelle and her Structural damage reduction: when does it apply? Initially we thought it was only when she was on the ship but then we saw FAQ entry about Tempest Cay increasing structural damage as long as someone is there [regardless of where ship is] which made us wonder if Jirelle's ability also work even when she's not on the ship.

2. Alahazra's scrying ability: when can it be used and how many times per turn can it be used? We figured it can be used as many times as she had Divine cards in hand [since there is no limit listed] but a friend that have another copy of the game claimed it can only be used once per turn.

3. Can Feiya's ability to reduce difficulty check be used against Henchmans and Villains if their type is "monster"?

4. Can Potion of Glibness [which allow a character to succeed at Diplomacy Check] be used to defeat villain Pirate Council [since check to defeat it is Charisma/Diplomacy]?

You've made a wise purchase. Welcome to PACG!

It does work when she isn't on a ship. She doesn't need to be on the ship to reduce the damage. As long as it is "your ship" she reduces the damage. See this post and the one below it.

You are correct. As long as she has a card she can use it. Technically, she can use it once per each step of the turn and as many times as she wants between the steps of the turn. That effectively means she can use it as many times as she wants (and has card to fuel it) per turn. And it doesn't have to be Alahazra's turn either.

See this long discussion and this FAQ.

Yes. They count as monsters in all ways.

Type: Most banes are either monsters or barriers. Most villains and henchmen have the “monster” type and count as monsters; a few henchmen have the “barrier” type and count as barriers.

Yup. The Potion of Glibness doesn't say anything about what kind of check it has to be (nothing about combat, non-combat, check to defeat/acquire, against a boon/bane) other than a Diplomacy check. So it will work.

You might find this guide helpful. It is for Rise of the Runelords, but should general apply to Skull and Shackles too. I've not quite had the time to make a full Skull and Shackles version.

Good luck on your adventure!
