Gold doubloon or gold Krugerrand

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Scarab Sages

I was looking at gold content of coins (curious about modern value for a pathfinder coin in terms of gold content). Right now I'm thinking it's a good match for the gold doubloon which had 26.66 grams of gold in it. However the greedy person inside me wants to make it equivalent to the Krugerand which has a troy ounce of gold. So what do people think doubloon, Krugerrand, other?

Edit
Please don't suggest novelty coins like the one tonne Australian Nugget which while legal tender is 30 inches in diameter and 4.7 inches thick as no one's carrying piles of those around.

Assuming that a gold piece is 99.9% pure gold, it weighs approximately 9 grams, as 1 lb of gold is equivalent to 50 gold pieces.

1 GP is roughly worth $377.40 and weighs just over 9 grams.

Right now the 1/4 oz Gold eagle is close at about 7.5 gms of gold.

Google full says the doubloon was 22 carat or 95.83% purity. Using your 1lb = 50 gp that gives us 8.693551 as opposed to a Krugerrand 99% value or US$405.206429 per coin. Might be worth trading in gems if your going from a pathfinder world to a modern one. Also in straight WBL a 20th level character would be worth around US$356,581,657:563125.

I was assuming a high purity because dwarves, magic, etc. But yeah, it's still a pretty decent amount of gold, and considering that gold is worth considerably more than ten times as much as silver right now, it's far better to trade in gold rather than silver for cash if your elven wizard turns up in modern New York.
