Slayer Talent Ranger Combat Style

Rules Questions

Does a Slayer have to take the second and third Ranger Combat Style Talent at exactly sixth and tenth level, or could they delay them?

Also, can a slayer take RCS a fourth time to get more than one of the feats on the sixth or tenth level lists?

You can't delay choosing things when you gain a level, such as feats and skills. You choose them when you gain a level. I don't think you even have the choice to not select them.

I dont read it as it have to be at 2, 6 and 10. But at 2 you can Pick a ranger combat style and pick one of the feats from the low list, you can Pick it again at 6 or later and get the second list from the same style, and so on.
I think it would be a hard thing to the archtypes that give up the level 2 talent if it was the other way around.

I don't mean don't take your talents at sixth and tenth, I mean that if I were to use them for something else, would I be able to take the RCS talents at say, 8th and 12th?

Yeah I wouldn't see why you couldn't take them at 8th or 12th.

Also anyone notice that the Slayer version of RCS is better than the Ranger's(at least if the official rule was the consensus that I remember reading that you can only ignore the prerequisites when you get the bonus feats at 2nd, 6th, 10th, 14th, and 18th levels)

"Unless otherwise noted, a slayer cannot select an individual talent more than once."

"Ranger Combat Style (Ex): The slayer selects a ranger combat style (such as archery or two-weapon combat) and gains a combat feat from the first feat list of that style. He can choose feats from his selected combat style, even if he does not have the normal prerequisites. At 6th level, he may select this talent again and add the 6th-level ranger combat feats from his chosen style to the list. At 10th level, he may select this talent again and add the 10th-level ranger combat feats from his chosen style to the list."

Sorry, but by the wording, you can only select the Ranger Combat Style talent three times.

From the way it reads I think that it seems the Slayer can select the feats from the style without meeting the prerequisites as normal feats since it says when he selects it again he adds the 6th ranger combat feats to the list not just choosing one feat from said list, same at 10th level.

The slayer can only ignore prerequisites with the feat granted by the talent. The list is just those feats eligible to be chosen with the talent.

Then there seems to be some unneeded wording going on instead of saying that those feats are added to the list(why would there be a list if he can only select it 3 times the other two only at the listed levels?) why not say that they choose a from the 6th level section of the chosen RCS.

Because they can still select the lower level feats not just the specific level.

No.

The first time the slayer takes the talent, they can select one feat from the base (2nd level ranger) combat style feat list (without needing to meet the prerequisites). The second time the slayer takes the talent (6th level slayer or greater), they can select one feat from the base or 6th level ranger combat style feat lists for whatever style they selected the first time they took this talent (without needing to meet the prerequisites). The third time the slayer takes the talent (10th level slayer or greater), they can select one feat from the base, 6th level, or 10th level ranger combat style feat lists for that style (without needing to meet the prerequisites).

Because the slayer can take this talent at any level except 1st (either with a normal talent choice or with the Extra Slayer Talent feat), it's actually more flexible than the normal ranger combat style class feature.

Related question: is the slayer restricted to medium or light armor? My immediate reaction is no since the ability talks about the feat lists, but not the restrictions.

"The slayer selects a ranger combat style..." Unless otherwise stated (which it is not), the slayer would follow the rules for the combat style class feature:

"The benefits of the ranger's chosen style feats apply only when he wears light, medium, or no armor. He loses all benefits of his combat style feats when wearing heavy armor. Once a ranger selects a combat style, it cannot be changed."

Thanks. That's what I figured.

Sczarni

During the playtest one of the Devs (Jason, IIRC) clarified that the armor restriction is the same as the Ranger's.
