Silly question about polymorph

Rules Questions

So I play PFS with my wife quite a bit, and I just got access to 5th level wizard spells. I was looking at polymorph and had this funny idea, I'm curious if it will work.

The idea is to cast polymorph on her animal companion. If I understand it correctly, it functions as beastshape 2, so if I polymorph it into a large creature, even though her companion is already large, it still gets the +4 STR, -2 Dex, +4 nat armor bonus. Initially I thought of changing it to a tiger for pounce/grab action, but than I saw the giant octopus...

Can I polymorph a willing ally into a creature that cannot breathe air when it is not in water? I would assume the creature could just hold it's breath and I could dismiss the spell before it was in any danger.

The Octopus has a speed of 20ft when out of water, I figure that wouldn't be listed if it was impossible for it to move/maneuver outside of water.

If this works, it would be hilarious, (first I need to convince my wife)

If the target cant breath it begins to suffocate, IIRC, but it seems legal. Not all polymorph spells that can be cast on other people are dismissable so be sure before you cast it.

Due to how polymorph spells work on creatures not of small or medium size, the results from the spell would ultimately be: -2 Con, +4 natural armor.

If you use a polymorph spell on a creature smaller than small or bigger than medium, you first adjust the stats of the creature as on this table (scroll down a bit).

As for the breathing air bit? Can't recall the official/accepted stance on that myself. Though, something to note about the giant octopus, all of the tentacle attacks are secondary natural attacks. They all will take a -5 penalty unless the companion has Multiattack, which it very well might, but depending on the companion may not have it.

I just looked up some more details on polymorph, I did notice that before I apply the benefits of the spell, her creature would get -4 str, +2 dex, -2 con. so a little bit of a damper on it, but still good.

Wraith when you say begins to suffocate, are you implying it cannot hold it's breath for double it's con score first and it should immediately start making fort saves? I couldn't find anything regarding this

Thanks Archive, yeah the companion has Multiattack, so -2 on all of them. I was able to find this from the prd

"A character who has no air to breathe can hold her breath for 2 rounds per point of Constitution. If a character takes a standard or full-round action, the remaining duration that the character can hold her breath is reduced by 1 round. After this period of time, the character must make a DC 10 Constitution check in order to continue holding her breath. The check must be repeated each round, with the DC increasing by +1 for each previous success."

So I would assume it could start holding it's breath once the transformation took place. I made sure polymorph (level 5 wizard spell) was dismisable before I looked into this

I was not saying it was immediate, but taking actions lessens the time you have.

Beast Shape II does not remove your ability to breathe air. Polymorph spells are weird. They don't turn you into an octopus; they give you a form with some octopus-like traits.
