Need help deciding on a Ravenloft character

Advice

I am fixing to start playing Ravenloft and wondering if anybody has any opinions on a good character. I am thinking about a Vistani Oracle but i dont know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Shadow Lodge

Play a Whip paladin, with a 1 level dip swashbuckler for dex to damage, and name him Belmont

"that stuff"? like swashbucklers or paladins? or like Castlevania references?

Sounds like your GM needs to get a massage. As for the OP's question, it depends on a few things.

First off, is this a Ravenloft themed game or an actual game set in the Domains of Dread, because that will drastically affect your choices. For example, a Paladin in a Ravenloft themed/inspired campaign could prove to be a powerful and valuable character. A Paladin in one of the actual Ravenloft Domains of Dread however would be a target of the entire world. The Dark Masters do not tolerate such pure and true thorns in their side.

Likewise, playing a spellcaster in a proper Ravenloft campaign usually leaves the spellcaster in the same boat as a Call of Cthulhu character who tried dabbling with magic.

Either way, you can't go wrong with a ranger with Favored Enemy: Undead. Possibly with even the Corpse Hunter archetype. A good switch hitter ranger is a solid addition to any adventuring party.
