Craft Ooze / Craft Construct as an Alchemist? (From Alchemy Manual)

Okay, so Craft Ooze requires a caster level of 5, but is listed in the Alchemy Manual. According to the Advanced Class Guide FAQ (In March of 2013), alchemists don't have a spell level and don't qualify for crafting feats.

Master Craftsman won't work for Craft Ooze, either.

The picture in the Alchemist guide (page 22) is obviously an alchemist, but Alchemists by default can't qualify for this feat! Is there an updated ruling, or is Paizo toying with us in the Alchemy Manual? ;)

They can't qualify for Craft Construct either with Master Craftsman, and the same issue with caster level applies for this feat.

Am I mistaken by RAW? Or is this just the way it is?

There are a few things that seem intended for Alchemists that require a caster level. It seems like the development team is not all on the same page about whether Alchemists have a caster level or not.

This is not helped by the Alchemy feature text implying he does have a caster level (the "he uses his alchemist level as his caster level" text turns up multiple times, if always in specific circumstances) and then the FAQ that says not. It does need tidying up some. And now that they have made spell-likes count it seems even less sensible that Alchemy does not.

It would be great to hear from someone from Paizo on this.

There's this.

Since James Jacobs initially designed the class, his intention was clearly that they were casters, they just had an alternate way of casting spells through extracts rather than through wiggly fingers.

Also, I looked on the FAQ on this site and didn't find your ruling. Could you provide a link?

Probably this one:
Alchemist: Is an alchemist a spellcaster for the purpose of crafting magic items other than potions?

answer:no and they can't take item creation feats, from March 2013.

Which of course contradicts JJs answer to cheapy you point to, and is later. so ... I guess the FAQ is RAW. But RAI, I still really don't know. It seems like there are different ideas about the alchemist and not everyone is on the same page.

I clicked FAQ above as well.

Well, they admit in the FAQ that it creates thematic problems. So even they admit it isn't RAI, or even RAMS (Rules As Make Sense).

It also says they are going to revisit this in the future, so I'm gonna hit FAQ button as a polite reminder.

For the original Poster, maybe you can get your house GM to allow it if you show the thematic troubles. I personally had an alchemist with Craft Construct and it didn't break the game as much as Greater Alchemical Simulacrum did. You still have to have the money and the time to craft constructs in any case. At the end of our campaign, we had plenty of money but no time to craft it into the big six much less to put together some constructs.
