Adding a Character to your party

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Can I decide to add a character to my party when I want to? Obviously no in the middle of a game but between games.

For instance...I am only on "black fangs dungeon" in RotR....I started the adventure path with Valeros, Amiri and Merisiel....however, I seem to be losing out on ALOT of Arcane and Divine checks/items. I just lost my most recent game by time running out (no one died)....for my next game can I add Lini to my party?

Grand Lodge

Absolutely. We play every other week at a LGS. Our core group is 3 players ... Ezren, Kyra and myself, Harsk. And every so often, someone wants to join us. We keep a couple extra characters ready for that. We just make sure we've adjusted them to our current "power" level with cards (quantity and level), feats, skills, etc.

Just adjust Lini to whatever skills, feats, etc. as the other characters.

Have fun!

Those characters don't really benefit from arcane and divine boons as they would need to banish the items/spells when used anyway. For closing checks, use blessings to boost your skill. It is certainly doable. The timer can run out even with the best/most balanced parties so I wouldn't be too down on your group.

But if you want to experience more of the spell side of things and have easier checks then Lini or Lem would be a good addition.

I think the original poster wasn't saying that the characters they're playing need those boons, but that they are discarding Arcane and Divine boons. And that if they add someone like Lini, then they might be able to use them.

PLUS, maybe the addition of a caster will help round out the team so they don't run out of time. And I agree that any group can run out of time but adding a caster to a melee heavy group mentioned might be helpful in the long run. And with those three, Lem or Lini are good support.

We did a 2-character playthrough of RotR with Merisiel and Ezren - we spent most of the last Adventure wondering whether they were going to need to bump into Kyra and Valeros on their way back from a previous successful play-through, so lend a hand.

Fortunately, they won by themselves- not sure how legit it would be to add characters with 23-card decks and all that loot.

Grand Lodge

It's possible.

Amd mainly I'm talking non-solo. When we're playing at the LGS and you have people you know that want to join in, it generates interest in the game. If we turned them away, might lose a potential player. So that's why we prep a couple characters just in case.

we've got a core group of four who've all played every scenario plus one guy that turns up occasionally. we stay entirely within the rules - he's not got a single feat ticked that he didn't earn as a reward - and it works absolutely fine
