so I was shoe horned into being the tank of the party and I want to retrain into something. my first thought was a paladin of besmara, I had a thread about that earlier and the majority of people told me not to do it. we are playing through skulls and shackles. my pc is a devout follower of Gozreh from her youth and Besmara recently. for the backstory she is from Andoran and part of their navy. she was captured by Chelax and became a slave. she was freed by a Paladin of Besmara and joined his group to work towards freeing other slaves. she was recaptured once and escaped with the aid of a child Halfling who make a pact with something to escape, the child is a witch. the DM is so excited to break my little cohort and me by proxy. I have a sworn oath to protect the child. most of the people I am playing with seem passive aggressively annoyed that I want a non lawful paladin who would still be have a very restrictive code. and I don't want to make a character others will dislike, I don't want to create discord because he cohort will create enough of that. I am unsure of what to play. I am willing and happy to be the front liner my druid just sucks at it. what class should I play.

What a bunch of melons. I really don't get people that think Paladins should always be lawful.
Anyway, here are a few classes that could work:
- Honor Guard Cavalier 5/Golden Legionnaire is a great combo. You can pick an Order that suits your personal code. Otherwise, Tower Shield Specialist Fighter 5 does the trick to get into the Golden Legion too.
- Witchguard Ranger also sounds like something that would fit.
- The newly released Warpriest sounds like it would feet the bill.

my traits are already picked since I am retraining not creating from scratch. and while the Golden Legionnaire is a awesome prestige class it wont be available to me this campaign. but it is one I am looking into for the campaign I am running that is currently in Andoran. Allies need classes too and the party is always looking for cohorts, at least some of them are.

the secret wizard is quite the fan of the cavalier. and that archetype is brilliant. thank you for giving me two really cool options now I have to pick! flavor wise the witchguard is brilliant and I do like the mechanics of the ranger plus it would be an easy sell to retrain into. the daring champion on the other hand fits my kind reckless play style very well and I love weapon finesse! I had been considering the dualist prestige class and with this one I don't need to take it which is cool. and I have never played a cavalier. I will mention both to the DM and see what he thinks. Thank you ohh mysterious mage. I humbly thank you. and Fruian Thistlefoot I to thank you. if I wasn't already playing a summoner that would be my pick. we rock the frontline together!

I really like the idea of a 2 paladin/10 swashbuckler with the UMD skill maxed. You loose out on 11th level deeds but hey you can smite and have your Cha to saves. Use a wand of bestow grace and add your cha again to saves. Mixed with charmed life you should pass most saves.Throw In some wands for layer defenses and your looking pretty.
I really want to build it with vulpine pounce as a kitsune. Great way to get around the battlefield.

I trying to avoid the paladin cause the people I play with don't like the non LG paladin. now in the campaign I am running that could be fun be it an ally or enemy. I will build it up and hopefully maim them! I love to maim them. and I have a save or die/utility mage and all the bonuses to save will be brilliant. I graciously thank you for the opportunity to maim my friend. you don't know what that means to me. I am a new DM and they have all been playing for years if not decades and I love to shock them or heavily maim them.

Not a problem. I saw you dont want a paladin I was stating a character I was gonna wait to make once fencers grace feat comes out.
Your welcome on the build tho. If you want a dangerous halfling click my avatar. You can change his favored enemies to the majority of your group. And the terrain to the one he is fighting in. Bring him lots of bonuses. Giving him a 10-15 foot roof to charge from keeping them at reach is a great tactic. Target the squishy or ranged people first with your 80 foot movements making the melee characters try to chase you down as you poke with a lance from above.

I dont mind at all. I have several DMs who ask me to make PC style baddies for them as I make efficient characters that are effective. If you need just send me a message on here with what kind of baddie you want. What level and what your main party is made up of. Sometimes you have to bring a player to his knees to make the danger seem real and for them to have an epic tale to tell.
