Ah well, raise a geek, expect expensive collections of items you might not find useful. Goes with the turf. I've seen your comics collection...
Don't feel bad. My daughter collects sneakers. And Ugg boots.
Thank god I soon will have a new generation to corrupt share my love of nerdy stuff.
EXCELSIOR!

Rough night. I was watching TV and having a few beers. Then the boy started having a bad stomach ache. We didn't have any kind of medicine to give him.
Eventually, I let him come downstairs and sleep on the sofa, while I slept on the love seat. Which turned out as not my most brilliant idea. I put the tallest person on the shorter of the two pieces of furniture.

On the plus side, I heard the song Big Country, by the band Big Country, while driving the kidlets to school.

And now I'm just letting youtube continue to play....Good stuff.

I seemed to have missed the announcement they were starting to allow polititroll threads again.
Oh well.
I'm sure if it is anything within the last few days they are taking advantage of the chaos of the code garble to flout the rules.
You need to start use my Focus. It sucks because you miss a lot of new threads, but it saves you a lot of aggravation with the polititrolls. Not that even this thread is safe from the random political zealot popping in to blatt their opinion.

Another early morning get going today - I made an appointment for my car at the dealership. Oil change, and I want them to check out why my left turn signal is operating intermittently. I don't think it's the steering column switch, otherwise the right turn signal would likely be wonky as well. I checked the fuse, and it didn't look bad. My code reader didn't turn up anything amiss.

I see there was an ANNOUNCEMENT the other day, apparently with regards to Starfinder. The way things are going, the only way I'll be buying Starfinder products is if they come out with some novels. Even that is very iffy, as Paizo has shown a propensity to hiring writers I'm either unfamiliar with or do not like. With a few exceptions, of course.

Then again, my purchasing of Pathfinder products has also dropped precipitously, and will go down even further once I cancel my AP subscription (right after the current AP concludes).
For me, it is still mostly about the whole "I don't really game that much any more". There are other considerations, however. One being my continued lack of employment necessitating the cutting of unnecessary/frivolous expenditures. Another being....I just keep running out of room to store these hardcopies. I've already had to pack the first thirteen APs away in a box to open shelf space for more important stuff.

My younger brother has started to play D&D 5th Edition with his family. Personally, I'm happy for him. The joy, however, is tempered by the annoyance I feel when he tries to convince me to participate.
No thank you. Ever since the so-called Edition Wars, I've been done with D&D and WotC. Maybe that will change in the future some time. Maybe it won't.

My brother just got the 5e starter set for his kids, too. I may have to game with them next time I'm up in the Northwest.

Heh.
Judging by what I have seen floating around on the TV and interwebs, it seems to be a world-wide phenomenon. ;P

I'm actually kinda wondering if it would be better to just go with 5e. Cut my Paizo subscriptions out, save myself the dough, go start some games over on Roll20 or Obsidian Portal.
*sigh*
I guess I'll wait and see how the unlocking unrolls.

For me, gaming was always as much of a social gathering with friends as anything else. That's why I probably won't join my brother in the 5E game he's running for his family. Not because I don't consider my brother a friend, but because it's small children whom I also love but do not consider "friends". It's an entirely different social dynamic. Sure, I've gamed with them before, but it was just a few one-offs and didn't last.
For the same reason, I will not push my own kids into gaming. If they come to it on there own, so be it. At this point in time, I don't see that as likely to happen, since they don't even see me gaming (except for the occasional round of Diablo 3.

One thing I miss about being employed, interestingly enough, is having "deep thought" conversations. At every place I've been employed for the last decade or two, I've always found at least one person with whom I could have awesome conversations about various subjects.
I supposes that would be possible on some site like this or FB, but it wouldn't be the same. For one, communication via social media isn't as easy and free-flowing as an in real life conversation. For another, unless you restrict access (possible on FB, but not here) you'd have the potential for snotty little ass-wipes to inject themselves.
It's a shame, because I had an awesome deep thought in the shower the other day.

Yeah, even on FB it's getting bad. I have an acquaintance friend who seems to feel justified interjecting themselves in any of my other friends (who he has no connection to ) threads I comment on. I'm trying to figure out a way to restrict his access to seeing what I post, but FB doesn't have a setting I can find to block friends from seeing what you've posted. Other than flat out unfriending him, which I am loath to do since that's a sure way to build an echo chamber, but it is getting rather stalkery.

I've come to increasingly lament the role social media has in my life. Too much time not connecting face-to-face with people. And it's only gotten worse since I've been out of work.
That's one reason I was so happy to meet some of my former co-workers for lunch earlier this week. It afforded me a chance to interact with real, live adults other than my wife. I may have to make it a weekly occurence.
It's also one of the reason's I've decided to put the boy in Cub Scouts next year. It'll give me a chance to interact with some other dads. Not to mention the obvious benefit of scouting as one of the last, true bastions of letting boys be boys.
