Scarab Sages

Every day now lately is the longest I've kept facial hair. Normally, it might last a month or so. This is going on 7 months.

I'm not sure if I'm starting to like it, or I just don't care enough to hate it.

Scarab Sages

Or if I've got enough other crap going on that scratchy face fur is no big deal.

Scarab Sages

And, of course, my wife has passed her cold on to me. Which is the last f*%#ing thing I needed at the moment.

Scarab Sages

That Framework idea on Agents of SHIELD is starting to look really awesome right about now.

Scarab Sages

I have come to realize I occasionally have....odd....habits when it comes to food combos. For example, breakfast today is coffee and petite kosher dill pickles.

Scarab Sages

The combo is...oddly soothing.

I'm so confused on meals I just eat breakfast when I wake up, whenever that is

Scarab Sages

I am slowly coming to think that we, as a species, have become too structured in our dining habits. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, with certain foods acceptable for each meal. For me, growing up, lunch and (especially) dinner were always the two most structured. Breakfast, not so much. That's probably why I'm not typically a hearty breakfast type of person.

Of course, I suppose part of it is the idea of providing a (relatively) stable routine for the children. And this seems to really be something that's developed over centuries of civilized habit, so I suppose there might be something to it.

These days, though, more often than not I mostly focus on making sure the kids eat well at each point in the day. If I get one full meal in for myself each day, I'm content. And I have, on occasion, had non-traditional foods as part of a meal at certain times - like eating leftover dinner for breakfast. My wife is even more into that. I've seen her eat things like pizza or left-over spagehtti for breakfast.

I was reading one of my recently purchased comic books the other day (issue #2 of Kamandi Challenge), and noticed something that got me thinking. The cover shows a multitude of characters, many of whom appeared in issue #1, and whom I assume will appear in this issue. One new character on the cover, however, was a half-naked young girl (with her top-half strategically covered by her hair. She was nowhere in the comics, though, clothed or otherwise.

That's what got me thinking. The comic book industry still very much focuses on sellng itself to young boys through the time-tested method of kick-ass or attention getting covers. That, of course, is no guarantee the interior will be the kind of story that can hold the interest of a young lad. It's amazing, though, how some of these cover artists can draw the attention or summarize a story in such a wonderfully limited capacity. One side of one page to sell the book. Some of those guys are f@&~ing magnificent.

It almost makes me wish more cover artists could pull double or even triple duty as interior writers and artists. Then maybe you'd get storylines that don't take 4 to 10 (or more) issues in order to be told. Bill Willingham, creator of the Fables comic, among others, is one of the more talented one-pagers I can think of. He can, quite literally, script a one page comic book story, which he did many times in the aforementioned Fables comic.

Scarab Sages

Otherwise, happy Friday! I'm debating watching Doctor Strange at some point in time today. I haven't seen the movie since Tuesday morning.

Scarab Sages

Sometimes I get bored and do pointless things just to pass the time. It is a source of constant self-admonishment. I should have better things to do than explore the ravings of deluded ass-wipes.

Scarab Sages

The fact that I actually do have better things to do is part of the problem, of course.

Scarab Sages

For example:

My house has landscaping laid out and planted by the people who built it. To say they made choices I would not have is an understatement.

On one side of the driveway are two (or so I thought) different large bushes/small tree-like plants. The planted these things very close together. They are planted too close together, so that they are growing into each other, which will leave those together portions stunted. So,

I've decided to remove the rear-most bush. I started yesterday, but can only do so much at a time because there is limited space in my garbage receptacle, and this stuff has to be loaded into it if I want it taken away in a timely fashion. So I'll have to slowly pare it down, until there's nothing by a stump and roots left.

Scarab Sages

Before I was laid off, I kept a large To Do List. You'd think that, with more time on my hands, I would have gotten plenty of it done. Sadly, this is not the case, as several items on that list require spending money. Since I am not currently bringing any money into the household, and these things are not "required", I must forgo them.

Scarab Sages

And now I can't recall if I've had two or three cups of coffee already.

Scarab Sages

Also, I'm not sure what to do with my day today. My options are limited, as the wife decided to annoy me by staying home again today.

Scarab Sages

Now that was a proper ramble. It was all over the f@&!ing map.

Scarab Sages

Speaking of maps.....

The other day, I came across the small collection of maps I had accumulated during my time working for the Navy. I'd get one in every CONUS location I travelled to.

Scarab Sages

Family movie night was that Trolls movie, with Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick (Mmmmmm....). I'll admit, it was entertaining.

Scarab Sages

Then, after the kidlets were in bed, I was channel surfing and found Stargate on one of the movie channels. I had forgotten how awesome that movie was. I should probably make plans to add it to my bluray collection.

Scarab Sages

Definitely need a trip to Walmart today. I've, sadly, got to replace my slippers. Luckily, they seem to be a Walmart special, as in they always seem to have them. Which is good, considering I seem to wear them out fairly rapidly.

Scarab Sages

Man, I hit the jackpot at the grocery store yesterday. Found a steak, some thin cut pork chops, and some chicken tenders, all with really good dates for this week. Also, some bacon-wrapped, beef medallions that are good through the 23rd. WOOT!

Scarab Sages

So, now I've got the aforementioned steak soaking up a stout-molasses marinade. Later this evening, I'll throw it on the grill with some sweet corn.

Scarab Sages

I caught parts of this movie called The Shallows on last night. It stars that super-hottie Blake Lively. She plays a surfer who gets attacked by a great white shark and stranded on some rocks a few hundred yards from shore. Hilarity ensues.

What bits I saw were pretty decent. At one point she makes it to a buoy, and the shark attacks the buoy. At first I thought that was a bit ridiculous, having the shark attack the buoy. Then I recalled a theory I saw once, about why sharks attack shark cages.

The theory goes that the metal cages interact with the salt water to confuse the shark's senses. So, since the buoy was also metal, and the chick was bleeding into the water all around it - BAMM! - the shark attacks!

Scarab Sages

Anyway, that chick looks really good in a bikini.

Scarab Sages

Right after The Shallows, Jaws came on. I own the movie, but haven't watched it in awhile. It's so very awesome.

For all you Star Trek - Deep Space 9 fans.

Scarab Sages

Wrong thread for that link.

Scarab Sages

I hear people talkin' bad,
About the way we have to live here in this country,
Harpin' on the wars we fight,
And gripin' 'bout the way things oughta be.
And I don't mind 'em switchin' sides,
And standin' up for things they believe in.
When they're runnin' down my country, man,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Runnin' down the way of life,
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
If you don't love it, leave it,
Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'.
If you're runnin' down my country, man,
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

I read about some squirrelly guy,
Who claims, he just don't believe in fightin'.
And I wonder just how long,
The rest of us can count on bein' free.
They love our milk an' honey,
But they preach about some other way of livin'.
When they're runnin' down my country, hoss,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Runnin' down the way of life,
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
If you don't love it, leave it,
Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'.
If you're runnin' down my country, man,
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

Scarab Sages

Blessed silence.

Scarab Sages

Stoopid rain. I can't go for my morning constitutional if you are making everything outside wet.

Scarab Sages

If you're going to write an article about some chick celebrity's controversial photo that provides some level of book exposure, the least you could do is actually include the aforementioned controversial photo. F%@$heads.

Had a phone interview today. I liked the guy and the company. The work sounds interesting. The pay sounds like it would be pretty damned good. And the dude seemed to like me and want to bring me in for a face-to-face.

Sadly, I'll probably have to turn it down. Or, at the least, accept it knowing I'd drop them as soon as something better comes along. It all comes down to commute. The location of their offices would give me a round-trip commute bordering on 3 hours.

Scarab Sages

Didn't even bother to watch Supergirl last night. Not sure why, but the show has kind of become "meh".

Scarab Sages

Saw an article about some freak who's had a bunch of surgeries to turn himself into an alien. There was a time when we just locked someone like that up in an asylum.

But, f+&~ it. Dude wants to spend his money turning himself into a circus sideshow attraction, that's all his business. Who knows, maybe one day an actual alien race will come to our planet, see this guy living in peace, and think we treat other intelligent life forms well.

Scarab Sages

I applied for like four other jobs last night (the internet is a beautiful thing). I'm hoping one of them will get back to me before the guy I had the phone con with yesterday. If I can get another offer, from somewhere that wouldn't be a REALLY BAD commute, I wouldn't feel as bad to turn the yesterday guy down.

Scarab Sages

In other news, I'm probably going to enroll the boy in Cub Scouts. I think it would be good for him. Just as long as I don't end up in a position of being expected to take over leader of the group. My younger brother did that, but he likes that sort of thing.

Scarab Sages

Sometimes, I find my daily "Weird News" article to post, and think to myself.....

Why? IN GOD'S NAME, WHY?!?

Scarab Sages

There'll be times
When my crimes
Will seem almost unforgivable
I give in to sin
Because you have to make this life livable

But when you think I've had enough
From your sea of love
I'll take more than another river full
Yes, and I'll make it all worthwhile
I'll make your heart smile

Strangelove
Strange highs and strange lows
Strangelove
That's how my love goes
Strangelove
Will you give it to me?

Will you take the pain
I will give to you?
Again and again
And will you return it?

There'll be days
When I'll stray
I may appear to be
Constantly out of reach
I give in to sin
Because I like to practice what I preach

I'm not trying to say
I'll have it all my way
I'm always willing to learn
When you've got something to teach
And I'll make it all worthwhile
I'll make your heart smile

Pain, will you return it?
I'll say it again, pain
Pain, will you return it?
I'll say it again, pain

Pain, will you return it?
I'll say it again, pain
Pain, will you return it?
I won't say it again

Strangelove
Strange highs and strange lows
Strangelove
That's how my love goes
Strangelove
Will you give it to me?

Strangelove
Strange highs and strange lows
Strangelove
That's how my love goes
Strangelove
Will you give it to me?

Strangelove
Strange highs and strange lows
Strangelove
That's how my love goes
Strangelove
Will you give it to me?

I give in
Again and again
I give in
Will you give it to me?
I give in
I'll say it again
I give in
I give in
Again and again
I give in
That's how my love goes
I give in
I'll say it again
I give in
I give in

Did some more landscaping yesterday. Trying to get the front of my house looking better.

Scarab Sages

After hitting three different locations trying to (once again) find new shoes for myself, I finally gave up and ordered the damned things from Amazon. Screw you shoe stores!

Scarab Sages

Apparently, next week is my boy's spring break. Luckily, we can still send him to daycare everyday. Unfortunately, my wife informed me that no one is going to be in her office, so she's taking part of the week off, and working from home the other part. Meaning no peace and quiet for me.

Scarab Sages

I might be tempted to at least get some benefit out of all that, however, by keeping both kids home one day and taking everybody to the zoo. If, of course, the weather cooperates.

Scarab Sages

Well, yesterday was a bit disappointing. Nowhere near what was advertised.

Scarab Sages

However, thanks to the wonder of Netflix, I did learn there are some truly horrible (with regard to writing/plot) horror movies that have been made.

Scarab Sages

Seriously, someone actually paid for that s++$....

Scarab Sages

Giraffe Mom....

Not the actual giraffe, mind you, but the pregnant chick standing around with that giraffe mask on.

Seriously, lady, what the ever-loving f+#@ are you smoking....?

Scarab Sages

The best part, it looks like now that she's given birth, she consented to have a picture taken of her, in the hospital, breastfeeding the baby, while wearing the mask....
