Snake Sidewind Feat and Acrobatics

Rules Questions

I have a player that interprets rules a bit differently than I. Looking for thoughts.

Snake Sidewind - Is the +4 Bonus on Acrobatics for just checks vs being knocked prone, or a bonus that can be used for all Acrobatic checks?

" Snake Sidewind (Combat)

Your sensitive twisting movements make you difficult to anticipate combat.

Prerequisite: Improved Unarmed Strike, Snake Style, Acrobatics 3 ranks, Sense Motive 6 ranks.

Benefit: You gain a +4 bonus to CMD against trip combat maneuvers and on Acrobatics checks and saving throws to avoid being knocked prone. While using the Snake Style feat, whenever you score a critical threat with your unarmed strike, you can make a Sense Motive check in place of the attack roll to confirm the critical hit. Whenever you score a critical hit with your unarmed strike, you can spend an immediate action to take a 5-foot step even if you have otherwise moved this round.

Normal: You can take a 5-foot step only if you have not otherwise moved this round."

I read it as all acrobatics checks.

Errr, rereading it I'm not so sure. I think it probably is acrobatics checks to avoid going prone.

I think it's all acrobatics checks. If it was just acrobatics check to avoid being knocked prone, wouldn't it read

"+4 bonus to CMD against trip combat maneuvers and on Acrobatics checks or saving throws to avoid being knocked prone" ?

i.e. Thing A and ((thing B or thing C) to avoid D).

I think it's Thing A and Thing B and (thing C to avoid D). But I've been wrong before.

notice how the above bolded section does not have any comma's in it? no semicolons or colons either? thats because its not separating anything.

there are 3 things here that the +4 applies to:

1) specific CMD checks against trip manuvers
2) acrobatics checks to prevent being knocked prone
3) saving throws to prevent being knocked prone

the word "and" in the sentence is used two different ways (which can be confusing sometimes). the first is "maneuvers and on". this one combines what came before it with whats about to come after. the second is "Acrobatics checks and saving throws". this one does the same as the first except that its combining only the words i quoted because the first "and" has already combined something bigger.

think of it like parenthesis inside parenthesis in math. the ones on the inside get combined first, then the ones on the outside get done. so link this:

(CMD against trip +(acrobatics check + saving throw) to prevent being knocked prone.

this statement is the same as the original, but far more clear because English sucks as a language...
