Perhaps we could merely concede the Seattle-Tacoma-Olympia region?
You mean, the part that includes Redmond, where Paizo is located?

Well, we don't have to give up ALL of King county, do we?

Alaska actually has a fairly large Seccesion Movement, but they want independence, Not Putin. The economic ramifications of this sort of thing never really occur to knuckleheads that push for them.
Alaska, like many red states whose politics are dominated by Tea Party knuckleheads is a taker state. They receive considerably more in Federal Aid than what they give in taxes. Succession would put them in the same state as pre-annexation Texas (another taker state, btw) New Jersey on the other hand, has generally been the opposite, although the Sandy aid the state received last year has put us almost at par for that year.

I thought Texas was one of the few Red non-taker states, largely due to the extraction industry.

You'd think that, but you'd be surprised. They get massive amounts of subsidies and pork spending. You might want to check out this chart of relative contributions per state.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_taxation_and_spending_by_state
Rank State Dollars (millions) Ratio to GSP[4]
Revenue[5] Spending[6] Net Revenue Spending Net
11 New York 201,168 151,719 49,449 16.7% 12.6% 4.1%
13 New Jersey 111,377 94,236 17,142 21.9% 18.6% 3.4%
31 Alaska 4,899 6,954 -2,055 9.4% 13.4% -4.0%
32 Texas 219,460 277,457 -57,997 15.7% 19.9% -4.2%
As you can see, Alaska and Texas are essentially subsidized by New York and New Jersey.

I'd like to see that data broken down into what sort of aid each state gets.
