Mossy Disk Ioun Stone price discrepancy

Rules Questions

I own a hardcopy of Seekers of Secrets. Among other things it has a nifty collection of Ioun Stones (most of which are found in no other source), and one of my favorites is the Mossy Disk Ioun Stone. It grants a +5 competence bonus to one Knowledge skill. Several of my PFS characters have one.

My copy lists the price at 2500gp, but on a couple different 3rd party sites the price is listed at 5000gp. I emailed one of them today to let them know they had the wrong price, and they responded with a picture from their PDF version with a 5000gp price tag. They postulated that perhaps the cost was updated in a more recent printing.

Which price is correct?

I'm the web owner in question. :) For what it's worth, I re-downloaded the Seekers of Secrets PDF, and it still shows the 5,000 gp cost. I thought there was a way to see version history somewhere on the website, but am not finding much.

Let's break it down.

A competence bonus to a skill has a market price of: X^2 * 100, where X is the skill bonus.

A +5 thus has a market price of 2,500 gp.

A slotless item (such as an ioun stone) costs double.

Therefore, a Mossy Disk Ioun Stone has a market price of 5,000 gp.

Are you sure you're not looking at the crafting cost (which is 2,500gp)? My copy also lists the price at 5,000gp.

Ah, wait. I might have found the problem.. The table of all the ioun stones (page 48) lists the mossy disk's market price at 2,500gp, while the actual write-up of the stone (page 45) lists it at 5,000gp.

In general, text write-ups are to be used if there's a discrepancy between text and table, so the 5,000gp should be the correct price.

Also, if 2,500gp was correct, then you'd only pay 900gp extra compared to the flawed stone which has a -2 CON penalty. That would be very cheap :)

EDIT #1: Indeed. I've been referencing the chart this whole time. Well... that sucks.

EDIT #2: The Pale Ruby Trillian has the same cost breakdown as the Mossy Disk, too. It does seem that I am out of luck.

I'm going to guess the 5k price is right, because the PDF is probably more recent than your printed copy.

Great magic item at 5K.

Downright steal if it was 1/2 that. Heck even the cracked ones are decent.

For whatever it's worth, the PDF copy also lists the incorrect price on the table. My copy, purchased September 2013, lists 2500 for the mossy disc; in the write-up, however, but in the write-up it's 5000 [normal], 200 [cracked], 1600 [flawed]. I imagine there's been no second publishing, so no amendments exist for the error.

5,000 gp.

But if you can find proof it changed and you bought it before it changed, then you can use that for any GM.

The price didn't change, there are two different prices listed in the same book. I was going off of the chart price, which was more handy to reference, because it has all the prices for all the qualities of stones listed on just two pages, whereas the text is spaced out over several.
