[Advice Blog] Introducing Everyman Gaming!

I hate to self-promote, but my name's Alexander "Alex" Augunas; perhaps you've heard some of the 3PP that I've worked on such as Amazing Races! Kitsune, Village Backdrop: Vulgruph's Hollow, the Tome of Collective Influences Kickstarter that Amora Games is currently running, and of course, the Pact Magic Unbound series.

But those things aren't why I'm posting here today. Another side project that II wrote is a free-to-view Google Drive document called the GM's Guide to Creating Challenging Encounters. Designed to provide GMs with helpful tips and tricks for creating challenging combats to players backed by the power of mathematics, the guide was (and still is) extremely popular and I receive constant requests to update it with more information.

That said, a Google Drive document is not the place for an ever-evolving source of information like this tool, so I've decided to start a blog called Everyman Gaming. Everyman Gaming will focus on posting tips and tricks for GMs and players alike and has a posting schedule of Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Anyone who knows me realizes that I wouldn't give a set schedule like this unless I was sure I could pull it off; I already have all of the February articles written and ready to publish. All I need are viewers like you. ‪#‎ReadingRainbow‬

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, hop on over to the blog's Page and make sure to give it a 'Like' so it'll send you an e-mail whenever a post goes live. If you don't want to do that, I understand: the posting schedule is Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 12pm. Read about the type of content I plan to feature, leave some suggestions regarding what sort of content you'd like to see me write about, and enjoy the show!

You can also see its Facebook Page HERE!

Looks cool. I'm looking forward to your posts!

Contributor

Thanks!

I actually decided to write this blog after reading a blog post YOU wrote about designers writing blog posts.

Full circle, hrm?

Looks very interesting! Good luck - hope you can keep up the momentum. 3 posts a week is a lot, I find.

Time will tell, but I think I'll manage. I spent a few weeks writing the articles that will premiere this month before I announced (or hinted at) anything and I spent all of this week brainstorming more ideas. I'm trying not to stay TOO far ahead of the blog because I want people to suggest article ideas and feel like their suggestions are making a reasonable impact, but I also wanted a reasonable buffer in case real life gives me a beating one week or something. :-)

My first Blog Post has gone live!

Nice blog Alexander. I'm not entirely sure I appreciate the nitty gritty, but it sure sounds along the lines of what I and at least one of the GMs I'm in PbP's have thought/said.

I'd be interested in hearing whether other people (especially Paizo developers) agree or what they think of what you are saying...

Contributor

Well, if I had to take a hunch I would imagine that the developers would say that my system works well for a party of mostly veteran players, but it is a philosophy that Paizo doesn't use when developing their Adventure Paths because they assume an average level of skill. The type of player who isn't reading guides to achieve ridiculous levels of power in their game.

The development team is made of some smart cookies. I'm sure they already have all of the mathematics I'll ever show you in a vault hidden 10,000 feet under Seattle.

The blog post in which I gibber about how multiclassing is awesome and you should be considering it more often.

Hi Alexander - haven't read it all yet but it looks interesting.

A blogger's tip: link directly to the individual blogpost, not to the blog itself. Otherwise your links are outdated in a few days and people (like me) get very confused if we try to follow them to get to some specific content ;-)

Oh, you mean like this?

(New blog post, last one for the week, is up. ;-] )

In today's post. I provide PCs and GMs alike with an Iconic Design; a method by which you too can raise armies of the undead while sacking the Eastern Kingdoms!

Hope everyone enjoys my Prince Arthas Menethil build. :-)

Liberty's Edge

Holy crap so much pain in that build. Btw since frostmourn is also a powerful item in his inventory how would you build it? Its probably a mythic legendary item major artifact, unless i miss my guess.

Contributor

I thought about posting a build for Frostmourne, but I felt it was too far into GM territory because I had no intention on taking the Legendary Item path ability. Maybe I'll post those notes in the future, but it amounts to an intelligent sword with a lot of cold-themed spell-like abilities.

Happy President's Day, folks! Paizo might be closed, but I'm sure as heck not! Here's your Monday blog post: XP Rewards for Fun and Profit.

Fantastic article and some very pointed comments about design space and limitations of APG classes (specifically the witch and cavalier), and your thoughts on the new ACG hybrids. Also I fixed the link to go directly to the article.

I can't help but think you could have mentioned the work we at Multiclass Productions do with multiclassing - for a refresher check out our Multiclass Archetypes Wiki.

Our list of archetypes is HERE and our creative guidelines

HERE.

Any thoughts on these Alexander? I don't mean to threadjack your announcement thread…

I'm also going to link your Merits of Multiclasisng blogpost to our current working thread… MCA VI

I love this blog it is great, I hope you keep it going. I can't wait for the prince Adam build

FRIDAY! Its all qued up and everything! I'm curious to see how people react to it. There is really only one class in the game that can truly pull off He-Man ....

Honestly, the Wiki is a lot to digest and I only look at it sporadically. From what I have seen of them, however, I consider the Multiclass Archetypes "part of the problem" because they don't really promote having levels in multiple classes: they promote sticking with one class that gains choice abilities from two different classes.

I want to be a rogue/fighter. Not a rogue with the fighter archetype.

Interesting. ;)
