recharging wands

Rules Questions

When a wand runs out of charges do you simply throw it away or can you rechare it?
My character has had a wand sence 2nd level and would like to keep it and it still be functional.

Unless you ascended to mythic tiers in Wrath of the Righteous as an archmage taking the Riftwarden orphan feat, there is no way to recharge wands in the pathfinder rules.

In homebrew, feel free

RAW: a wand with 0 charges is just a stick

While the previous posts are correct, there is nothing stopping you you from having a new wand made, using the same 'wand', to keep the flavour.

On my table you can create a new wand (50 charges) and use an old wand (1 to 49 charges) as an material component.

A new 'magic missle' (CL1) wand with 50 charges costs 750gp.
An old 'magic missle' (CL1) wand with 25 charges has a worth of 375gp. With an additional 375gp in materials you can create a new one with 50 charges.

So in raw could i use the old wand to make a new one?
I.e. old wand of mage armor to new wand of fireball.

What i wrote is a houserule. By RAW you can only create wands with 50 charges and you cannot recharge them.

Do you mean just the physical shaft? I guess you could but don't try to save money by using an old shaft. Don't think left over magic should get you any type of discount.

When a healing wand runs out of charges, I like to make a show of it about how it is a symbol of how much we fought. How the next wand is a symbol of much we will continue to fight. I go on about how this is not something you throw away. This is something you keep. Than mount it on a wall in the group head quarters, or group wagon, offer it to a museum or what not. I stole that from an episode of Star Trek Deep Space 9 where the captain and later a lieutenant give such a speech about a phaser emitter or some such being something you keep for the same reasons listed above.

Not looking for a discount just wanted to use the old shaft.
i didn't know if you could or not by raw.

I am not sure I agree that the wand cannot be reused again. The RAW states it is a stick...which in my mind states it just a normal item. If you use the ARCANE BOND as a guideline I believe it is feasible that the STICK can be reused as many times as needed. No where in the RAW rules does it state the STICK cannot be reused... I would also be inclined to think since the ARCANE BOND rule states:

"If the bonded object
is a wand, it loses its wand abilities when its last charge is
consumed, but it is not destroyed and it retains all of its
bonded object properties and can be used to craft a new
wand." CRB page 78.

The way we have done it for the last five years are so is that a masterwork wand/stick can be reused over and over... as it is inline with the ARCANE BOND rules. So for us it is a benefit to purchase/make highend (masterwork) wands that can be recharged...

The physical object, a stick, once depleted, can be reused to make a new wand, yes. It is functionally identical to any other stick one might make a new wand into.

RAW, you can only make a new wand with 50 charges. While I can see the value of allowing players to recharge them as a house rule, I probably wouldn't allow it. Wands are the wholesale option for consumables: cheaper per charge than a potion or scroll, but you can't selectively choose how much you want.

RAW doesn't really cover reusing the stick, but I certainly think it's reasonable (as long as there is no proce discount) to RP the acquisition of a new wand as providing it to the mage and asking him to enchant it...again.

By RAW, you can.

Well, RAW doesn't specify. But the used wand is simply an ornate baton (or simple stick), and such is used for making a new wand.
