Planning for a sci fi game using pathfinder rules

Homebrew and House Rules

The group I run likes to play scifi a bit more than traditional high fantasy. So I am in the planning stages for a sci fi game, I am going to what the want out of the game before I get too deep.

I've gotten the PDF's of Santiago: A Myth of a Far Future as a starting point for class selections and creating aliens.

Unless the group votes otherwise, we will start with the known universe colonized and a single planet in Alpha Centauri.

I will post some ideas for technology and the settlement of Alpha Centauri in other posts.

I'd like opinions and suggestions on the creation of the universe or even multiverse.

The first quantum leap in space was made by Commander Don Johnson, his command crew Lieutenant Victor Rasmussen, Specialist Angela Dunberry, and historian and author, J.K. Roddenberry. Besides the command crew there were geologist, astrologers, and theoretical physicist and engineers and one theologian appointed by the Vatican.

There crew were confused once the quantum shroud dissipated. The arrived in a system so similar to their own, they thought the leap had failed until there were no contact from Jump Control. a geologist looking at "earth" during the confusion realized the landmasses were not normal and slowly the crew pieced together what happened.

Commander Johnson ,fearing being lost in space, ordered an immediate jump home. The first quantum leap of the USS Majestic was successful. Subsequent jumps were made expiring and testing. The pioneering spirit of man took over and several years and leaps later, the first colonies landed in Alpha Centauri founding Eden.

Eden was similar to Earth in every fashion. The colonist however learned from their history and attempted to preserve as much of the natural state as possible. This lead to a blending of nature and science that none before have ever conceived.

Medical science has always grown replacement organs and could simulate skin and muscle for the purposes of health and well being. Bio engineers developed the means to enhance the mind and body, and senses with Bio Enhancers.

Surgeons once used nanites to discard diseased or destroyed tissue and speed the healing process. There was a risk of the body rejecting the tiny robots. When that happened the nanites registered the entire body as necrotic and consumed it completely. With the advancement of bio-nano technology, the nanites are partly comprised of the hosts DNA effectively reducing the risk of rejection to less than 1%.

Ion Engines

Ion I.X - The Ion I is the standard drive system for land based "hover" vehicles. The are ten deviations for civilian use. The Ion I.0 through Ion I.9.

Ion 1.0 - 50 meters (5 squares a turn)

Lift Capacity 1 kilogram

Max Altitude

Ion-1.1 - Power Increase 1/10th Base Speed 55 meters

Lift Capacity 1.1 kilogram

Maximum Altitude-30m

Ion-I.2 - Power Increase 1/5th Base Speed 60 meters

Lift Capacity - 1.2 kilograms

Maximum Altitude (1/10th increase) - 33m

Ion-1.3 Power Increase 3/10th Base Speed 65m

Lift Capacity - 1.3kg

Maximum Altitude - 36m

Ion-1.4 Base Speed 65m

Lift Capacity - 1.4kg

Maximum Altitude - 39m

Ion-1.5 Base Speed 70m

Lift Capacity - 1.5kg

Maximum Altitude - 42m

Ion-1.6 Base Speed 75m

Lift Capacity - 1.6kg

Maximum Altitude - 45m

Ion-1.7 Base Speed 80m

Lift Capacity - 1.7kg

Maximum Altitude - 48m

Ion-1.8 Base Speed 85m

Lift Capacity - 1.8kg

Maximum Altitude - 51m

Ion-1.9 Base Speed 90m

Lift Capacity - 1.8kg

Maximum Altitude - 54m

Ion 2-5 - used primarily in vacuum and multiply the base stats of Ion 1.0 -1.9.

Ion 5.0 Introduces a quantum generator.

Ion 5.1-5.9 Increases the energy build up rate for a quantum jump.

Ion 6.0 - Ion 10-Increases the length of a quantum jump.

Ion 6.1-6.9,7.1-7.9,8.1-8.9,9.1-9.9,10.1-10.9- Increase te energy build up rate for a quantum jump.

Physicist Kristen Nevar in the pre-star date year of 5137 was studying the quantum leap phenomenon observed in electrons moving from orbital to orbital at a faster that light speed.

Nevar was able to determine the amount of energy the electron collected in relation to it's mass just before the leap to another orbital took place.

Based on the mass to energy relation ship, he was able to successfully cause a point to point leap of a 100g ball.

Nevar first had to calculate a starting point he called a "Dimensional Coordinate" that involved +/- x,y,&z and the spatial location of local gravity well given off by celestial masses and cosmic events.

The recording shows the 100g ball become encapsulated in a brilliant white light just before appearing at it's destination 10 meters away. After the experiment Dr. Nevar explained the process of a quantum leap to his government benefactors.

"The Quantum Generator locks the objects dimensional coordinate in place and begin to floor the area with particles until the dimensional coordinate can no longer hold the excited object. This is where the quantum shroud is visible by the naked eye. At the precise point of saturation, the Quantum Generator opens the possibility of another Dimension Coordinate. The energy having no where to go, leaps into the new space carrying whatever object is enclosed in the quantum shroud."

I plan on starting the game with the group waking in a medical room of a facility located on an asteroid. Their memory has been modified as to who they are and where they are.
Some checks, either computer use or knowledge technology will show they are clones with memories from a brain scan. They have been in this facitlity for about year.

Whatever equipment the choose will be stocked in the facility with a small vessel capable of making it to the neaest settlement.

One milestone I want to set is them finding out who they were. I'm thinking an infiltration team from a galactic federation sent to learn the location of a shadow empires leader.

No interest in scifi games?

how sre you going to do ray guns? same as fire arms in pf?

Have you looked at the d20 modern (future) rules at all for ideas?

I actually own d20 modern. In the Santiago pdf there are firearms in it. The first couple of PDFs are free

Edit: I find the modern rules clunky. Hence the reason to use Pathfinder

1 person marked this as a favorite.

While it was not Pathfinder specific, since Pathfinder was just a gleam in Paizo's eye when we were writing it, d20 Dawning Star by Blue Devil Games included a solar system, which you can sample with this free product:

Go to Dawning Star.

That extract comes from Helios Rising, a much bigger book.
