Wanted to price out an item and looking for clarification on where multipliers happen. Basically, I would like to buy Large Mithril Chain Shirt Barding for a Wolf Animal Companion
Large Barding x4
Mithril +1000gp (Includes MW)
Chain Shirt 100gp
If the Mithril cost is applied to the base price and multiplied , this is 4400gp and I am taking Mage Armor as a spell known and dealing with the occasional dispel risk.
If the Mithril cost is applied after the multiplier, the cost is only 1400.
What I would think, Mithril cost is added after the multiplier for barding, but before the multiplier for size, making the total 2400.

Special materials don't scale with size unless they say they do. Darkwood, for instance, is priced per pound. Mithral is just a flat +1,000 for light armor. After all, halflings have to pay a grand despite using significantly less metal than a bigass half-orc.
This might break verisimilitude, but so do a few thousand other things.
