Ability Substitution and Categorization

Rules Questions

If you possess a feat, class power, or trait that allows you to substitute one ability for another on a given skill or check...

(some examples include)
a) the feat Noble Scion (war)
b) the Lore mystery Lore Keeper
c) the Lore mystery Sidestep Secret (for Reflex saving throws)

...is that skill a <new ability>-based skill or check, or does it retain its original 'basedness'?

(in the above example)
1. Does this character get +3 to Knowledge skills, Initiative checks, and Reflex saves from a circlet of persuasion?

Bonus question
1. Does the trait Student of Philosophy allow a Lore Warden fighter to treat Bluff and Diplomacy as class skills? Or does he only gain the class skill bonus for the listed uses of those skills? Or neither?

This would be good to know for Inquisitors with the Conversion Inquisition, too. They substitute CHA with WIS for Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate.

The Pragmatic Activator magic trait from Ultimate Campaign substitutes CHA with INT for Use Magic Device.

The Clever Wordplay social trait from the Society Primer does the same thing for any CHA-based skill.

Searching through the forums I found these gems:

HERE is a thread from a few months ago that came to the conclusion that, RAW, those skills are no longer "based" off of the original stat, so a Circlet of Persuasion does nothing for an Inquisitor.

HERE is another thread where SKR (link broken) says that an Oracle of Lore benefits from a Circlet of Persuasion.

THIS recent thread goes into greater detail as to what constitutes a "check".

I believe this might have to be chalked up to common sense. If you aren't using CHA for a skill, and are using INT or WIS instead, then it is no longer a CHA-based skill for you.

nice thread lore there nefreet.

it looks like this might be the original thread from your link #2.
