Greetings.
It seems a film based on ME is in development. I think its about damn time myself! Got me thinking of how I would approach bringing ME to the big screen. I think I would avoid using the games story and plot. There is too much baggage attached to that route. Also, there are so many great characters I am not sure how you could do them justice in the film format.
To utilize the universe and avoid the issues that arise from using the games storyline, I would set the film in the First contact war. This way I could introduce the ME world to non-gamers and keep up some of the same themes that made the game great. Also, free to play around with certain characters without upsetting the gamer fan base. If it is successful then you could move on to the game storylines and have some returning characters from the first movie.
That is my pitch how about yours?

Honestly if they follow the games at all they would do better as miniseries or full series. That's not likely though so lets see:
One movie per game. Some squad members would probably have to be cut or receive a lot less attention than the fans would like*.
Further:
-MShep
-Colonist, Sole Survivor, Vanguard.
-Largely paragon with some renegade for spice and personal conflict.
-Romance is hard I like most of them but i'll go with Liara. She's my favorite and can be spread throughout the whole of the series and her personal arc from timid archaeologist to Shadow Broker is good for story meat and impact on the relationship.
-Have the after credits clip at the end of third film be shepard and liara having a happy family moment.
- Also, a Shiala & Javick background romance.
*= I nominate Jacob.

Spacer War Hero Vanguard
Tali as love interest, of course. You heretic blueberry lovers, you. ^^
Can't do much better than the plot from the first game to start the franchise, although with cuts to side missions, of course. If I'd see that speech from Sovereign on the big screen, I'd probably die from excitement. "You exist because we allow it. And you will end because we demand it". <shivers>

;)
Hah, Shepard is so awesome that Tali built up disease immunity by having sex with him! :D Tali and dying, pffft. :p
Wow, it'll be hard to adjust to not having Sheploo as the face of Shepard. I've been happily using the default standard face for all three games (any self-built face looks like a plastic mask somehow to me).
And, yeah, realistically they will go with the extremely boring Liara as LI. <sigh> Because the Hollywood suits who'll finance this movie would piss themselves in terror if the movie would choose to go with something actually risky, like an alien lover, be it Tali or Garrus. Yes, Liara is an alien, but she is obviously a beautiful human-like female. And safe and boring and can easily be marginalized, which is just how the suits like it. Well, I hope we at least get Matriarch Aethythia out of this.

Tho honestly, the 'evolution' of Liara's character I personally found hard to swallow...

I think the first contact war would be awesome. Or Rachni wars.
Rachni wars would be cool but a movie with no humans would not fly. Maybe an animated movie for TV could pull this off. Then again, maybe a movie with no humans would be just the gimmick to bring in the peeps. I wouldn't gamble on it though.

Looks like y'all favor using the video games story for the flicks. Fair enough Ill join the fun too. More to come these are rattled right off the top of my head.
ME1
Femshep Adapt
Earth orphan / sole survivor
Paragon
Romance with Kaidan
Kaidan dies at virmire
Cut out shep picking a councilor because it didn't matter anyways
Cut out rachni queen because it didn't matter anyways
ME2
Femshep Adapt
Earth orphan / sole survivor resurrected
Renegade (Kaidan dying, getting shat on by the council causes shep to try things outside the law for a bit. Finds out Cerberus is a monster after-all but not until end of movie.)
Liara has creepy fascination with shep but shep rejects romance.
Focus on merc groups and the seedy side of the ME universe.
ME3
Femshep Adapt
Earth orphan / sole survivor resurrected
Paragon (Shep returns to lead the alliance against the reaps)
Replace emo sword guy with shep clone for illusive man's sidekick
Sorry Dr T'soni no time for love
Lots of flirting with Vega (heartbreaking scene at end shipping him off)
Garrus/Tali romance
Things are so dire that N7 program takes on Conrad Verner

Hey, it could work out for Shepard in the end.

Yeah, he was an interesting character....
Nope, Mordin specifically warns FemShep about dangers of chafing and tissue ingestion and forwards a booklet on comfortable positions for both.
Romance
“Your, uh, hair looks… good, and your waist is… very… supportive.”In 2185, Garrus becomes a potential romance for a female Shepard. The option becomes available after completing Garrus' loyalty mission. Throughout the romance, Garrus' demeanor is somewhat awkward; nevertheless, if Shepard asks Garrus whether his behavior suggests that he is uncomfortable with the idea, Garrus says he is just nervous, and that Shepard never has to worry about making him uncomfortable. In these more vulnerable moments, Garrus admits he feels very alone in the galaxy, considering Shepard is the only friend he has left. Garrus confesses he wants "something to go right" (he mentions Sidonis and his work with C-Sec as times where he failed, implying his departure from C-Sec may not have been entirely his choice) after which Shepard—who slowly approaches him while he talks—touches his face, stroking the scar he gained during his recruitment mission. The two of them touch foreheads affectionately, followed by Garrus reaching up as though to touch Shepard's shoulder.
When Mordin notices Shepard's attraction to Garrus, Shepard can ask him for advice regarding the turian, to which Mordin will warn Shepard about chafing. He advises her not to ingest turian tissue, as it is based on dextro-amino acids, and can cause an allergic reaction in Shepard's body. He then suggests that she return later for a painkiller and forwards information packets regarding turian physiology and positions comfortable for both species to Shepard's room.

Me too. The worst part? Almost the same way every time.
Same here. I like my Shepard the way he is. :p Aside from having to replay ME1 and ME2 to kill Ashley instead of Kaidan (because Ashley annoyed me *even more* in ME3 and Kaidans bonus powers in the game are excellent for a Vanguard ^^), I only added some well-placed Renegade interrupts to my Paragon Shepard. Because headbutting Krogans and some well-placed shots are things the universe needs. :D
