Well, the Kickstarter has also drastically slowed down in it's pace. It has ~6 thousand or so less backers than the previous Kickstarter, but it's ~2 million less in funds. It seems kind of obvious to me that people are spending less money on this one, than the previous one. Granted, it will inevitably increase more by the time the deadline hits, but I doubt that it will go as high as the first one did.

People are putting down miminal buy-ins now and will up the final amounts when they know how much more is gonna be available as extras to buy. currently the average payment is just a bit over $115 bucks or so, the average by the end will probably be closer to the $250-300 range. The last week of the Kickstarter I would expect the numbers to start flying.

My guess is that this one will end up over 4mil.

Funny thing is, if they had switch some of the bonus and option sets, I would have payed a bit more.

For example, if the gnolls and bugbears were an option and the lords of darkness were bonus, I would have gladly had popped for extra to get the gnolls and bugbears. Likewise if the dungeon monsters and the heroes and villains had been switched. Neither of the lords or the heroes and villians am I interested in enough to pay extra for. But I am really looking forward to those gnolls, bugbears, and abberations.

You'll be able to buy extras of the gnolls and bugbears. I imagine they'll have the prices for that once the shipping calc / pledge manager goes live.

The first Bones KS did little more than a 100 backers a day until last week of the drive - the last day alone added 7K+ backers. This time Reaper has front loaded the drive. I fully expect more money to be added as we get closer to the end. Way too early to make any kind of assumptions about how this will pan out.

I predict 20K backers and just under $4 million.

I think you missed my point. I am saying that I would have paid extra to get those in the first place, where as most of the options they have now I am not interested in paying extra for. I am saying that it was funny that the choices they made to make what bonus and what optional is causing me to back less than I would otherwise.

I am sure the bugbears and gnolls I am getting as bonus miniatures will be more than enough for me, I currently have no interest in more of those molds.

Kicktraq is projecting a $6 million final total. So the stretch goals, one hopes, will keep rolling in, and the cost per individual mini will continue to drop.

I'm excited--I missed the first one, but I'm in on this from the get-go. Hopefully there aren't too many tempting add-ons, or my girlfriend might have to kick my ass. ;p

Kicktraq's projection is almost never useful. It presumes that money will be added linerarly, which it never is. The trend willbe slightly more useful when it gets sufficient data in a day or two, but even that should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Sitting this one out, the postage charges suck.

Yup, even it still would be a great deal, I think I won't be backing this as I should pledge twice the amount of first kickstarter to get the core set. I'd rather just put that amount in reaper store and get the minis I actually need. That said, I do have a pledge in there just in case I change my mind.

Shadow Lodge

Well I am in for $300. This one seems better for GMs with all of the monsters and evil NPCs.

There's 21 days left yet... and we're already at the point where Bones I was 3 days before it ended.

There's going to be plenty of minis added to the Core Set yet. Another thing to take into consideration is that several larger minis have been added to the Core Set this time. That'll skew the price per figure.

Its not just size, its also scuplts. Like this time around we only got 9 skeletons, but they are 9 individual skulpts. That is going to skew numbers too.

I wish that demi-lich was included in the last bones. I could really use it in an upcoming AP Encounter. No spoilers please (though it's a rather infamous one).

The goroloth / aboleth is a model I've wanted for a while but never had the 45 dollars to purchase :) Pleased to see it in the expansion.

Yea for 5 bucks more, you get a ton of additional minis, I kind of like the expansion idea, its good for everyone. Reaper doesnt have to worry about the ever expandling amount of minis per pledge dollar that was the last kickstarter vampire, and we still get rewards that scale with the size of the kickstarter. If you like half of whats in the expansion its worth it.

I don't like half of them half as well as I probably should; and I want less than half of them half as well as they deserve.

The international shipping calculator / pledge calculator is up and running. No more guess-timating shipping costs:

Quote:

It slices, it dices, it… Yeah, yeah, I know, enough prattle.

For those of you returning it should be self-explanatory, but for those of you new to our Kickstarter here’s how it works.

1) Register and create a login – We need to know what you want and where you live.

2) Select the quantities of any Extras, Options and Expansions you want. In the upper right hand corner you’ll see the tally of your choices including shipping when required.

When you’re finished, click the green Pledge button. You’ll be taken to Kickstarter’s Pledge Page, and you’ll see your pledge amount in the box. Please follow Kickstarter’s instructions to complete your Pledge.

Here is the link to the Pledge Calculator: https://ks.reapermini.com/

What happens to the Pledge Calculator and my choices after your Kickstarter is concluded?

After the end of our campaign, the Pledge Calculator becomes the Pledge Manager. Your existing choices will be saved, and all that’s left for you to do is give it a final review and lock in your selections.

Will I be able to add more items via the pledge manager after the KS campaign is over?

Yep. One more thing! Per Kickstarter policy you’re limited to no more than 10 of the same item. There will be no exceptions so please don’t ask. Anyway, painting 10 of the same thing would get boring ☺

...except that the cost will continue to change as more things get unlocked. That said, it shouldn't blow out too hard.

Personally I am giving it a miss as I liked the fixed cost from last time.

Only if you add more options yourself. The shipping price for the Core Set won't change:

Hmm ok maybe that is a better deal.

Shifty wrote:

The international shipping does seem like alot, but if you think about it reaper is actually eating a fair amount of the cost for it.

First, its added to pledges, so it goes towards stretch goals despite the fact that Kickstarter will take a cut of it, they have frozen the shipping on the core set, which we certainly hope will get heavier, and you are paying for shipping now, for something that will be shipped in a year, and there is next to zero chance shipping rates wont go up in a year.

So they are actually subsidizing a fair bit of the shipping. Its a shame that they didnt have this in place from the start as we likely would have seen alot less agitation from international backers, who were understandably concerned about shipping costs.

In the end, even with the shipping, it is almost certainly the best deal in miniatures. It isnt as good a deal as the last time, but apparently reaper was only a short way away from losing money on that kickstarter, due to various issues they are avoiding this time.

Sovereign Court

Cracked 1.55 mil, the new goal has a wereshark in it!

Also if you are a RoW backer like myself (australia and in for $500) if you get friends or even society friends backing it together the shipping cost comes WAY down.

What you do is you all pledge together on one account/pledge...
So for instance, 4x $100 core sets brings the total to $500... this means shipping is $25 per set, ontop of this shipping for the addons is also reduced because the package size is increased.
It is a bit weird, but if you can get friends in on it you can actually get a pretty good deal
(shipping is $48 for the core in aus, so dropping to $25 is pretty good, this said adding addons to the $48 core often doesn't increase the shipping cost and when it does it is usually only by $1-$2 tops)

Woo nice, we just got a "treat card" for 50 bases added to our sets when we hit $1,615,000!

This is shaping up to be pretty dang good, I hope we hit at or above what we did in the first one.

I loved the first one, but I'm going to give this one a pass.

The figures are less interesting to me (tho I love the Kraken).

However, the main issue is the shipping to Canada.
I completely understand that they could not repeat the free shipping from last time, and that they took a financial bath on it. However, anything I have looked at which estimates the shipping this time will push the pledge past what I can justify spending. I also feel that much of the blame for the cost incurred last time must go to Reaper - while the Kickstarter greatly exceeded their expectations, they obviously did not research what would be required to ship across the border.

I was unable to find it anywhere... do they discount international shipping by the amount they would be covering for shipping to US recipients? It seems to me that would be fair, and make things much more palatable to international sponsors.

I'm sorry if it seems like I'm down on Reaper - I'm definitely not. They deliver a quality product, and both Kickstarters are a tremendous opportunity for folks to pick up lots of minis at a great bargain. I will probably pick up many of the new Bones from my FLGS when they are done, but as it stands, this KS is not for me.

Basically, they are discounting the international shiping twice, first, they are allowing shipping to be included in the pledges to count toward stretch goals and eating the 10% kickstarter takes. Second, they are charging based on current shipping rates which basically guaranteed to go up next year when the actual shipping is done. From what I've read in the comments of the kickstarter thats pretty close to the amount that is 'discounted' to american shipping, possibly more by the end.

That said I can understand that shipping is a pain, there just isnt much reaper can do about it beyond what they are going to. I still feel like its a rather impressive deal even with the shipping costs, though I guess if you dont like LOTS of the minis it might not be as good a deal. The problem is the difference in shipping rates and tarrifs between shipping packages individually, and going through distributors (like the product sold to flgs will be). But setting up a deal with a distributor for a one time sale is probably near impossible.

I love that...I am trying to base a bunch of KS1's minis on everything from washers and wooden disks to sculpey clay cut to size, stamped with a texture and baked. Bases are great. Hope they do some large-sized and even a few huges....

One option, if everything that's in the Core Set doesn't tickle your fancy, is to just pledge at the $1 level and then add the parts you like (whether from the Core Set or the add-ons). It might actually keep the shipping down too (haven't done any calculations on the pledge calculator, though).
Of course, this gets trickier as more is added to the Core Set as buying the parts individually might be more than $100.

And I'm still curious as to why Paizo hasn't advertised this too. There are both Pathfinder heroes and villains in the KS + a whole lot of useful minis for several of the Adventure Paths.
Maybe it's starting to be competitive with the AP prepainted minis?
Several Paizo employees have written about how they pledged for the first KS, though.

Yeah I dropped over $500 on the last offering, and part of what got me right into the spree was the fixed cost of shipping. As it was a good deal I threw significantly more dollars than I otherwise would have.

Perhaps as other say, Reaper could have been a bit more organised in getting their intentions out to Intl customers a bit more proactively.

On a side note, I am disappointed at the lack of Ogres in the Reaper offerings. How is this fantasy staple going so under-represented?

I am in on this set also personally.

The first time around, we wanted to help the Kickstarter get off the ground. I'm not sure they need our help any longer considering how much money they have raised already! Perhaps we will give them a little push in the last week.

They dont need help per say. Afer all 1.6 million is pretty darn good for anything let along a kickstarter. But I think that paizo would be doing a service for their fans more then anything else. These are products that would help people enjoy their games and get excited about the hobby. I know that the first bones kickstarter has gotten me painting again, and now each character in the parties in the 3 games I am currently playing in has a custom painted/converted miniature from that first kickstarter. Everyone is quite enjoying that. And though I certainly COULD have done such a thing at any time, it was having this giant pile of cool plastic minis lying around that motivated me to do it.

As it stands even if fans want to get the word out to the paizo community themselves its sort of difficult. This section (miniatures) of the forums isnt heavily traveled as say the rpg forums, or the pathfinder general forums, but technically if I posted in either of those locations, it would be in the wrong section (and likely be flagged and moved). So even if I wanted to let people know that there is a really great deal that includes things like the whispering tyrant, and a bunch of iconics, I'm not really able to. The only way word of the kickstarter could travel to the community at large is a blog post(as far as I am aware).

Kolokotroni wrote:

QFT

I had originally made a post about this KS down in Gamer Talk because I had no clue there was a miniatures sub-forum (Gaming section was collapsed). Definitely hope to see Paizo give a push like they did last year, although it would be nice if it was a bit earlier — some of my friends missed out because they saw the blog post after they'd already paid rent, bought groceries, etc (you know, non-essentials).

Pathfinder Maps Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Let me chime in with encouragement for Paizo to put the word out about this kickstarter. Kolokotroni is right, it's a service for the fans who might otherwise miss out on this opportunity because they just don't hear about it on time.

I can see arguments for doing it now (giving folks more warning), or waiting til the last week (getting folks to look at it when the excitement will be highest as the final push is underway).

I'd also like to see Paizo send a email blast out about this Kickstarter or at least include it in their next email blast, I know one just went out a few days ago or so.

There are many, many KS projects which Paizo could support (Sword of Air, for instance) but I'm not sure that they should.

Obviously the PF Miniatures link is a factor but Open Design / Kobold Press designed a Paizo Module: should they get the same backing for their Kickstarters? Where's the line?

The line for me is pretty easy. If there is a Kickstarter that features an officially licensed Pathfinder product, then we should get the word out on it. If it is a non-licensed product we like, we might mention it in the store blog or in a blurb in our store mailing, but we won't send out an email to our entire mailing list.

I like to err on not doing something. There are just too many requests and if you pick somebody's but not anothers, then you run the risk of offending folks. Better to just have a simple policy—if it is an officially licensed product, we will help out. Makes it clear and simple.

At this point, there isn't anything I'm particularly interested in coming from the second Expansion set. The town guard is cool and all, but I already own a bunch of those.
