Anyone who has ever played a game with this guy at the helm knows he's got his chops, both in rules and RP. Frankly I was amazed to find out he was only 3 stars, but as we all know, the number of games you've run in PFS is not always a fair indicator of your skill or experience. Congrats for making it to the level of 'upper classman', my good friend, and I'm sure we'll see 4 and 5 stars out of you in due time.

Rob just ran The Waking Rune for Gamescape North in San Rafael (Northern Cal), high tier hard mode, and it took EVERYTHING we had to survive and beat that scenario. I won't leave any spoilers, but my sphincter puckered more than once during the run. Good show!

Rob,

I typically ask people for their advice when they get a new star.

Could you provide an anecdote about a session that taught you something that you think more people ought to know?

Yarrr! Thanks everybody. The Waking Rune table at Gamescape was an absolute blast. I would like to give a quick shout out to Alex Greenshields for GMing it for me at PaizoCon and teaching me some fun tricks to make the players suffer.

As per Chris's request here's a story I remember.

Story:
I was playing at a Con in Iowa City with a certain Purple Bunny GMing and she had a rule wrong. The specifics of the rule isn't important and it wasn't going to make a difference in how the adventure went but one of the other players insisted on arguing.

Eventually I told him something along the lines of: look she's the GM, she's ruled it works this way, just go with it so we can go back to playing.

Come July I found myself at PaizoCon with Todd Morgan (then VC in Iowa City) and Azmyth (Bay Area VC) working registration together. Todd proceeded to tell Azmyth a very complimentary version of the story of supporting the GM even when she was wrong.

I beamed and felt awesome. My 2 VCs were swapping stories about how great I am. Right after the story Todd took me aside and mentioned that since I'm so good I should agree to judge an extra slot next time his con rolled around.

How could I refuse, of course I said yes.

About a minute later while walking away I realized Todd had just 'suckered' me into GMing an extra slot.

I suppose the moral of the story is to appreciate your fellow Pathfinders for their contributions. It's the best way to get them to keep contributing and to contribute more.

Excellent! Now that you've earned your third star, you are free to return from exile, correct?

Grats on the 3rd star!

Well, playing the Monk11 in said Waking Rune and getting hammered by 3 EEEs will put the fear in you.

Of course, as a monk, I couldn't let the desperation crack my confident mien.

I counted 7/8 saves made, including "wished into the sun" which I liked(player)/hated(character) a great deal. 2 of those were save or die (or even worse). In true Spellcraft-less form, I never knew what I didn't save from (more suspense.)

Two special Chronicle boons later, I avoided a killing blow.

Each of the encounters was a finely-flavored feast of surprises.

I had the villain in my grasp, and could smell the...fear I hope it was.

Cheers for Pirate Rob, a class act, and always saw the big picture while still skillfully navigating the trenches of expansive stat blocks and unpredictable player moves.

Also, a shout out to my tablemates, who put up with my jests, and the wizzy who spent quite a bit of gp to put the final nail in the coffin.

3+ death rolls avoided, fun group, good times...

Congrats, Pirate Rob. Glad I got to play with you at PaizoCon!

Silver Crusade

I had the luck to be involved in Rob's The Waking Rune game.

Rob was an excellent GM. He prepared meticulously. He did a great job setting the atmosphere. He also played the encounter very tactically, and didn't pull any punches while also playing fair.

Too bad (for us North Bay players) he's leaving for Iowa in August...

It was super tough, but we all survived. When I say that Rob didn't pull any punches, he really didn't -- which made the whole experience more satisfying.

Spoilers (don't read if you haven't played the scenario):

Nearth death experience spoilers:

- Our Monk had to burn 2 one-time use boons to avoid being banished to hell.
- 3 of us got super lucky successfully saving against being Wished into the sun. You hear me right. DC 29 or die anyone?
- A few of our party members got pretty beat up having to fight the results of an empowered Summon Monster 9.
- Krune had freedom of movement, spell turning, and teleported around the map through different means. If we could see him, he was never in one place longer than a round.

I think we survived because we had some pretty tuned characters, we buffed up a ton, used consumables, used teamwork, and (most importantly) got lucky!

Congratulations, Rob! You are one of those folks that when I see the name on a convention sign up list it immediately lowers my blood pressure.

Thanks for everything, you are awesome!

Congrats Rob! Nice to see you continue to chug along making PFS a better experience for everyone.

Good to see you again at Paizocon.

Silver Crusade 4/5

Well that explains why you wanted the slot sooo badly. ;)

No worries though, I had a lot of fun watching you try to kill everyone!!

Congrats Rob! It's all downhill from here as an FYI!! Going to have to make you come scare my area players before you leave.

Congrats Rob! I had a great time barely surviving Mortika's Severing Ties with you via PBP. Couldn't think of a better person to get another star.

Was a pleasure to have Rob at my table for Siege of the Diamond City. My wife reports he was great fun to play alongside as well. Hope to have the chance down the road to ally with him instead of try to kill him. :)

Congrats!
