I found a faq question that interests me. I started a Phalanx Fighter years ago and I play it sparingly in PFS. The faq question:

Power Attack: If I am using a two-handed weapon with one hand (such as a lance while mounted), do still I get the +50% damage for using a two-handed weapon?

Yes.

—Pathfinder Design Team, 05/24/13

The way it is worded sounds like in RAW, and RAI, that it aught to work with both the lance and the phalanx fighter. There are other message boards posted, that the way the lance and phalanx fighter are written it is not so.

I'm inclined to believe what I read online in the faq that a phalanx fighter gets this benefit than what other people have posted about the way each is written, how the weapon is used and, how the phalanx fighter wields his weapon.

I haven't found any definite answer posted to this dilemma. I've tried using (phalanx fighter + power attack + lance) and haven't gotten much.

No, because the Phalanx fighter specifically says he wields it as a one-handed weapon.

The lance lacks any such verbiage, only saying that it can be used one handed while mounted.

The weapon is still a two handed weapon that the fighter wields. He is able to use the weapon as a one handed weapon, it doesn't change the fact that the weapon is still a two handed weapon. Hence, the fighter is using a two handed weapon with one hand.

I'm thinking the question in the faq takes precedence over what it says in the Advanced Players Guide (APV). That is my interpretation of RAW and RAI in this matter.

I saw a post on this that had posted pretty much the way you see the matter that was back in 2011. The faq question was posted last May. I don't see anything else that changes what you believe to be how the phalanx fighter works except this faq tidbit. Henceforth, I believe the way the faq question is posted is why this matter has changed. I may be in the minority though.

I'm inclined to agree with Claxon, you're wielding it "as a one handed weapon", one handed weapons gain +2 per -1 on power attack.

It specifically because the way the Phalanx fighter's ability is worded, as well as other classes abilities are worded that make it not functiont the way you would like.

The FAQ that was issued has actually been one of the most confusing and least helpful FAQs to date, and has actually been the source of much consternation and confusion. Ultiamtely, it seems the FAQ pretty much creates an exception for the lance and lance alone as it is the only ability we've had that doesn't state that you either wield the weapon as a one handed weapon or have another similar caveat.

I see, thanks for your all input. I thought I'd post about it and see what happens. I gather Claxon you are one of the minions that work for Paizo. Thanks for posting on all our thoughts.

No problem. Happy to help where I can.

Nope, no Paizo minion, though I'd very much enjoy it. I just like the game and the forum gives me a place to help others and learn things too.

That sounds like something a minion would say.
