Minotaurs

Advice

Does anyone know if it is possible to play a minotaur as a PC race?

Sure, if your GM allows monster races, or uses the race builder in the Advanced Race Guide to build a custom minotaur race. If he/she does, it would probably be a good idea for all the players to choose monsters that are fairly equivalent in terms of CR.

The Exchange

I'd bet on the usual answer being 'no' for the majority of campaigns. As Are points out, you can use the ARG to construct a "beast man" race that's 1 HD and thus more in line with playable race power levels. If your GM is somewhat disinclined to introduce a whole new race into his campaign, ask if you can play as a 'magical mutation': few GMs will resist the urge to tie your character concept to some psychopathic monstersmith or malfunctioning Cauldron of Life somewhere, so - hey - free adventure hook.

Now... to be Frankenstein's monster, Galatea... or Skynet?

Here's what the bestiary says about playing a minotaur

Didn't the dragon lance setting have medium sized sea faring minotaurs?

There's a minotaur in the Skull and Shackles game I'm in.

If everyone can make 4th level characters, you can be a minotaur with 9,000 XP.
When everyone reaches 15,000 XP and advance their characters to 5th level, you can add one level in a character class, and so on.

Well, what about a PC that looks like a Minotaur, and has a few qualities like them?

That's doable without Monster PC rules, or houserules.

There is also the Race Builder in the Advanced Race Guide.

I think an orc should have perfectly servicable racial abilities for a minotaur.

Well, as a Tiefling, you can have a Bull head, hooves, and natural attacks.

I would just ask to replace a bite with a gore.

Bam.

Tieflings don't have a bite attack.

But they have energy resistance, spell-like abilities, and bonuses to Dexterity and Intelligence.

That does not really look like a minotaur substitute to me.

They totally can have a bite attack.

Check them out here.

In fact, the Demon Lord, Baphomet, Patron of Minotaurs, makes the Tiefling a perfect choice.

Demon-Spawn Tiefling, for +2 Str, +2 Cha, –2 Int, along with the Scaled Skin, Fiendish Sprinter, and Maw or Claw alternate racial traits.

Ask to substitute Bite for Gore.

Heck, take Demonic Obedience feat, choose Baphomet, and eventually turn into a Minotaur.

Kobold Press Midgard Campaing Setting has Minotaurs as a standard base race along with Kobolds and the normal standard races.

Thank you all

Dragonlance does have medium sized minotaurs. There should be a conversion in the Conversions section under one of the DL threads.
