how to RP a black blade?

Advice

im playing a Magus with a Black blade, my GM has given its mision but ofcourse i odnt know it.

its sentient and we can comunicate with each other however i dont realy know how to roleplay the relationship between me and my blade.

i have great respect for it as it gives me great power and almost always wield it carying it all the time never sheathing it.

but i dont know how to ropleplay the relationship between me and the blade and i would also like my party members to come aware of its intelegence but i dont know how.

There's a few ways to do it. Talking to yourself can seem weird...

The simplest is probably make it another NPC you happen to swing around in combat, and let the GM handle it's personality.

Or the Blackblade is actually the dominant partner - the Magus carrying it either willingly or not following it around. Essentially you play the sword, and the Magus rarely speaks.

Or the blade doesn't dane to talk to anyone but the Magus, so you have conversations with the voice in you head. "Yes, mighty blade, I know you like bleeding thins...oh, not you sir, I was just talking to my sword."

Here you go...

Liberty's Edge

You could also watch either/both of the Vampire Hunter D anime movies if you want to see a symbiotic relationship between a protagonist and a gidt from his father. I could easily see a black blade with Lefty's personality, constantly chiding/goading the magus into indulging his darker nature.

The black blade is like me of Neutral Good alignment! so it wil act towards its alignment.

and im not bad at inventing a storry for the black blade its just that i dont realy know how to express it in a RP enviorement.

like do i talk to myself or do i ask my GM to talk for the black blade?
how do i talk to it just start a conversation when not in combat or?

now the idea of alowing the blade to be my voice is kinda cool.

Hmm, I'm thinking of two characters. The first is the Andromeda AI (not Romey) from Andromeda ascendent. It is a blade after all and war is its home.

Spoiler:

Rommie: No, I didn't. Because I'm a warship, and warships only know how to do one thing, and that's kill. We don't have hearts. We don't have empathy. We're killers. We're attack dogs. And I'm afraid.

Andromeda: Well, on the bright side, the Worldship was heading towards the known worlds anyway, before you just didn't know about it. At least this way, you can face it head-on.
Beka: That was such a warship thing to say.

Rommie: I can pick up galvanic skin responses and respiration changes. I can also analyze pupil dilations in real time, which makes me a walking lie detector. So, tell me the truth, or I'll turn the bones of your hand into calcified gelatin.

Rommie: I just want a day where I can build missiles and tweak fire control in peace.
Beka Valentine: We need to find you a hobby.
Rommie: That IS my hobby.

The other one is Jamie Reyes (Blue Beetle III)'s scarab.

Spoiler:

Scarab: No. We can not allow ourselves to be taken prisoner.
Blue Beetle: Not much choice, is there?
Icicle Jr.: None at all.
Scarab: Inaccurate. I have tapped the functions of this "inhibitor collar". I will disable it so that you may attack.
Blue Beetle: And risk Aqualad blowing up the cave? I don't think so.
Scarab: Then Jaime Reyes, you leave me no choice. I am taking control.

Dangit, now I want to play a Magus based on Tyr Anasazi.

Iif you're asking for how to potray the blade speaking, then I'd totally recommend holdiing both ends of the conversation in front of people when its important. Maybe give the blade an accent or even hold up a pencil when its talking.

In an effort to not hog the spotlight, I'd usually just state during RP time "You see X arguing with his blade again..." and rarely interupt the action to yell (in character) something random like "I know she is smoking hot, but we're not her type". Really play up the whole "its my sword talking, I swear!" angle.

OR have it talk telepathically and you don't, kind of like Jamie and his Scarab, so people only hear part of the coversation.

"No, we are not going to use an empowered shocking grasp!"
*pause*
"This is not the time to continue displomacy by other means!"

(rest of the PCs wonder what the hell he's doing)

Personally I'd play it out like an NPC, since that's what I'm doing in my homebrew game.

The BB has it's own backstory, and it's mostly truthful with the player(since their both Lawful) so it's told the player his goals since their partners. I see it like a familiar... One that can take you over if you're doing something it really hates, but otherwise is allied with you.

Spoiler:

*Since my players are reading my posts these days, please stop here if you're one of them*

His Black Blade is actually the consciousness of a LE Drow King who was the primary antagonist in a short 3 part game I ran a few months ago (the players were sent to depose him; they actually ended up joining him for the most part).

The player, a Half-Elf w/ the Drow Abilities as presented in the ARG, is his descendant. The BB is LE, while the player is LN. None the less, they share a vision for world dominance... He and his sword are now traveling across the world setting up enclaves for his nation in every other country they go to... so once the worlds saved he can ease into the position of ruler.

Now all that was talked out ahead of the time with the player and most of it was his idea. Including the Alignment of the Sword(Since he wants to transition to it rather than start LE). Thus it's a corrupting influence of sorts, and most certainly he's had "spats" with his partner. But ultimately their family and of the same mindset.

Point is, NPCs the best way to handle it imo.

Silver Crusade

One of my player is running his black blade like a multiple personality. The blade has certain personality traits and the magus has certain traits. He even uses a different voice when he switches between them. Its quite entertaining...

okay ill talk to my GM about it. Problem is I can RP it all i want but never know its true goal for sure as it is aperently a secret :-)

I need to talk to my GM a bit to see what kind of charachter my sword has. I would like for it to be stuborn wanting the same things i want but often not the same way!
