My Inquisitor now has enough money to buy some mithral stuff. He's mobility based, so medium (regular) armor is right out.
I can buy a mithral katana (his primary weapon) or mithral plate. Part of the 'theme' is I want to keep his gear all one exotic metal (so, no, I'm not looking for Adamantine weapon/mithral armor)
I've 5K GP roughly.
So a +1 Mithral katana, per heroforge costs 5050GP (50 for the sharp and pointy, 3k for mithral, 2k for +1.) I already have a masterwork (steel) katana but, as Dex just hit 5th level, I *don't* believe his class bane ability would make a masterwork blade +3 to hit, +2 to damage, where a if it were magical it would be +3 to hit +3 to damage (and in both cases +2d6).
While a masterwork agile Mithral breastplate would cost 'only' 4200 (200 for the breastplate, 4K for the mithral) and would increase his AC by 2 over his leather lamilar he's wearing now. (The agile's a must since acrobatics isn't a class skill, but he's a mobility/scout build.) His AC is 19 now, so that would bump it to 21, w/o a reduction in speed.
Nitpick: an agile breastplate is 400 gp, while a regular one is 200.
I don't personally think the mithral katana is worth it, but I know you know that. The breastplate is certainly greater bang for your buck. I would delay a +1 mithral katana for a little while, especially since you can always use a scroll of magic weapon to hit something with DR/magic.
If you *do* get a mithril katana, be sure to splurge for a fortifying stone (1000gp) to raise its hardness to 20... so it won't evaporate the first time something with an adamantine weapon sunders it :)
+1 on the classic mithril breastplate (adding Comfort if you're so inclined).
I wanted to thank everyone who suggested 'get the breast plate first'. Dex avoided being hit 3 times because he had the breast plate. Pretty massive hits at that.
By the book, Shizuru is Dex's deity. He's also an Inquisitor with the heretic archtype, so I needed a good heresy. In reading the descriptions of the deities, I realized Shizuru and Saranae have a lot of overlap, so he worships both as an aspect of the same goddess, whom he simply calls, "The Lady."
Or as he'd put it. "The Lady is ancient, and has many names, does it matter if you call her Saranae, my bretheren call her Shizuru, or I call her the Lady, knowing her true name is unfathomable. She is clearly tolerant and understanding of all her children, as I am still in her good graces, as are her other children."
