Who rules Korvosa?

I know the AP isn't going there, but the question has come up because of PC background stuff.

Our group hasn't played Curse of the Crimson Throne, but Shattered Star takes place after those events. Assuming that Ileosa was defeated, who now rules Korvosa?

Silver Crusade

At the end of the campaign, the seneschal of Castle Korvosa, Neolandis Kalepoplis, was running things and keeping the city under control, and the city leaders were trying to determine who would become the new ruler. Of course, the PCs had the option of becoming the new rulers, so you could always say a band of adventurers have become the new kings.

Thanks. Does that mean that (in terms of Golarion canon) there is no official ruler of 'present day' Korvosa?

In terms of Golarion canon, the current ruler of "present day" Korvosa is King Eodred and his wife Queen Ileosa. Although the king is on his death bed and has been for a while, and that means that Ileosa is pretty much running the show.

That stays that way until after you start running Curse of the Crimson Throne, or until you decide to run Shattered Star.

If you don't run Crimson Throne before Shattered Star, the "official" ruler of Korvosa there is up to you. I would suggest it be either:

Spoiler:
Neolandis or Sabina

Thanks, double-J.

I kind of guessed the answer, but couldn't be 100% sure. I just like to stick as close to canon as possible.

King Arkonas the First.

What?

Point being: who rules Korvosa depends on how Curse of the Crimson Throne ended. For us it ended with

Spoiler:
Glorio Arkonas never being overthrown (or even inconvenienced) in the third adventure. After the PCs cleaned out Castle Korvosa in book six but before they got back from the Sunken Queen the Arkonas family very quickly took advantage of the power vacuum. Glorio Arkonas used a cunning mix of economics, assassinations, and quickly mobilized social services to win popular support. Neolandis had to choose what he considered the lesser evil between revolution or a rakshasa on the throne. Time will tell if he chose wrong.
Everyone else's campaigns probably ended very differently with PCs on the throne or the officially-assumed outcomes or what-have-you.

If you haven't played Crimson Throne then don't worry about it. Take an officially-assumed outcome and call it a day.

That's essentially what I was asking for (and got) :p

who but the King in Yellow ?

Along the shore the cloud waves break,
The twin suns sink behind the lake,
The shadows lengthen

In Carcosa.

Strange is the night where black stars rise,
And strange moons circle through the skies,
But stranger still is

Lost Carcosa.

Songs that the Hyades shall sing,
Where flap the tatters of the King,
Must die unheard in

Dim Carcosa.

Song of my soul, my voice is dead,
Die thou, unsung, as tears unshed
Shall dry and die in

Lost Carcosa.

—"Cassilda's Song" in The King in Yellow Act 1, Scene 2

oh, you said Korvosa^^ almost the same thing *grin*

In our timeline, Vencarlo Orsini took upon himself the burden of the throne

You've all got it wrong :)

Spoiler:
It's naturally Kazavon who rules now, after Queen Ileosa defeated the silly adventurers who attempted to prevent her ascension!

Liberty's Edge

In our game one of Lamm's Lambs (my character had adopted them all) turned out to be Eodreds bastard son.

My players ended up with Queen Cressida I

None of the nobles argued...

Korvosa?:
You mean the ever-smoking ruins of that once great city? If someone has set to rebuilding it they certainly haven't done a very good job, I'd say. Anyone with half a wit knows that Magnimar's the place to be in Varisia now mate. ;-)

Korvosa in my version of post CotCT Golarion is pretty much Mordheim with the serial numbers scraped off and all the "don't ever go there" left in :-)

Has anyone opted to have the local Runelord rule the city-state?

Cressida and Neolandis seem like the best choices to me. In our game, we picked Cressida Kroft just because of her sheer devotion to the city, even when endangering her reputation and life.

Oh ho, I really like this. I'm planning on running a new CotCT game within the next 12 months. I will most likely borrow this idea if you don't mind.

Funnily enough my Facebook profile pic is now my face superimposed onto Anuty Entity. It wasn't my idea. Some other geek did it.

Queen Annata Vieri, my PC!

She was a priestess of Sarenrae but a Deck of Many Things draw revealed she was actually nobility, and she deposed Ileosa, ascended the throne, and married Vencarlo Orisini. Read the story of her mighty deeds!

My players all died halfway from the end of Curse of the Crimson Throne, so in my setting Korvosa is....

Spoiler:
....still ruled by Queen Ileosa I at the time when she is increasing her power and planning to start building statues for the final rite.
One of the PG come to Magnimar with the fugitives Neolandus and Vencarlo! :)
