Rage Points: Were They Ever Republished?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I'd heard a rumor that rage points might be revisited in later publications as an alternate rule set. Was this ever done, or am I just blind? O.O

Or, is the last release of them from beta?

For those who don't know what I'm talking about: Rage points were a system that let you handle barbarian powers via a points system. That is, so long as you had enough points, you could use the ability. This was introduced during beta, but probably felt too foreign at the time, so Paizo moved to the 1/rage, 1/day system in place currently!

Note, this also meant there wasn't rage cycling...what you could do and how often was solely a function of your rage points...sort of a ki pool, but Very Angry, of course.

I haven't seen Beta Barb much. Is it OGL? Could you post the full stuff here?

Googling it, I read a comment:
"It just means the barbarian player will have something to track whereas before, he only had to worry about N rages per day. I guess you could do it with poker chips or jelly babies or what have you."
Which may haven the issue, Barbarians don't like to think while raging?

Anothrt issue the point values were way off.
+6 points for elemental damage? But only +2 for others far stronger

Pros: you got more points each level.

It looks as though the old PDF is gone, now. This isn't too surprising as it's been a few years. A copy is online out this way: http://pathfinderrpg.wikidot.com/barbarian that might explain the concept a little better.

And yeah. At the time? It was just seen as too different. Now, with discoveries, grit...I don't think there'd be as much resistance as there was then.

It did need more testing in terms of pricing/per points, but it never got there. That might have been due to the "it's too different." Not sure.

I was interested to see if they'd been revisited, though. Guess not!

Where did you hear that rumor?

Total Necro but I want to use rage points, is there any plan to revisit them? Barbarian unchained?

I am not familiar with rage points, but I would have liked a way to spend rounds of rage to perform certain rage powers, such as the "once per rage" abilities. I would like to see this as part of a way to get rid of rage cycling, which I consider cheesy.

A simple houserule that wouldn't really require any overhaul to the system would be to just spend rounds of rage outside of combat and allow the rager to choose if they want the Str/Con benefits or not. If they choose the benefit, then they follow the normal rules for rage. If they choose to not gain that benefit, they may use rage powers but won't be fatigued after and can still use abilities and skills as normal.

That's exactly what rage points were in the beta. But it got cut and changed to "once pet rage" and such. I agree rage cycling is annoying and refer points would be a better system.

I'll probably end up home brewing something but just wanted to check if anyone had done it already.
