Well, you could always look halfway down the front page of the Kickstarter. :-)

ReaperBryan said that us Canadians may get shipped out via UPS, they are seeing if they can pay the import fees / brokerage themselves.

They are having their Canadian affiliate RAFM ship the Canadian orders so there shouldn't be brokerage fees or anything, but we should expect them later.

I went with Nethyrmaul instead of Kaladrax (didn't think I needed two dracoliches). I hope he looks just as awesome.

LOL

Yeah.... i debated on getting new Kaladrax.... I already have the FIRST one they released a couple years ago. And he turned out pretty awesome :)

In the end, I ended up getting both nethermaul AND new Kaladrax... I honestly have no NEED of THREE giant dracolichs... but really, those sculpts look like a LOT of fun to paint!!!! ^_^

Starfinder Superscriber

I love that they are starting shipping! I know I'll have to wait a bit for mine (as it's a bit more than a simple Vampire pledge) but still...:)

Shadow Lodge

Hmm... I had just the vampire order, but I subbed Sophie for three other things... Seems quite simple compared to some that have posted. So here's hoping. :D

They've begun exploring the UPS option only in the last few days. If things change from their previous plans to use RAFM, they'll let us know.

Anyone else going nuts waiting for word of their order?

Mine was relatively simple compared to some:

looking at other people orders and in hindsight realizing how rediculously cheap it was I'm regretting not ordering more. Though if it means I get myine a little sooner, I guess that is a consolation.

My one consolation is that it will take me years to finish just the miniatures that I am getting as it is. Getting more would have just added to the backlog.

If I really buckled down and picked up to the pace of painting i had in my serious wargaming days I could probably paint my order in a month. But then again that was at a time where i could afford to spend 4 hours a day on a hobby. Not so much nowadays. But then again I've never painted anything as big as some of those so I cant be completely sure.

While I am anxious about getting my order (last night I saw a box on the porch and thought, "Could it be?", sadly no, it was for the other new arrival we'll be getting ... yeah ... ;D ). But I'd love to see more people posting when they do get their package, so I can at least get a feel for how things are progressing.

As for painting, I have been trying to do various things laying around. I was doing ok until I hit a group of skaven that I had. I did about 4 of 20 and I just gave up. I couldn't get motivated to finish them. Back into a box somewhere till I get the mood again and do a few more.

I have a lot of trouble getting excited about painting something that I've already painted before. I'm not fond of doing armies of undead or random orcs... did about 8 goblins... and that went alright, but I wouldn't have wanted to do another bunch.

For me it's mostly the excitement and challenge of a new project. Once i get past it... meh.

yea i have a couple boxes of minis for armies for wargames i never painted because though i wanted a few extra guys to fill out numbers or replace broken/lost ones. I couldnt bring myself to get excited about painting them again.

That said I am crazy excited about painting some of the biggest minis i've ever touched in the bones set.

Say Hello to Nethyrmaul....

The Auld Grump, will you be my friend?

Grand Lodge

oooowww, Pretty

That....is beautiful.

Man, I hope I can do half as well with mine when I get him :)

Oh god I hope not. It is my policy to refuse all UPS orders as I do not pay their extortion costs. I better contact Reaper to let them know not to ship my minis this way.

Huh? What does that even mean? UPS extortion costs?

@Marc Radle

From what I've read on the Reaper boards, apparently its pretty standard practice for UPS to charge an EXTRA fee at your doorstep when they deliver in Canada.

Reaper is registering with the CBSA so they can cover all the gst/brokerage/duties themselves and have UPS deliver without those extra fees they are so fond of.

I have found in the past that UPS has a myriad of charges they try to collect at the door. This includes handling fees, brokerage fees, tax, and customs fees. Now I have never had a shipper pay the brokerage fees on their end before, but from what I have heard from 3 different friend's experiences, and countless others on the internet, is that UPS will still try to collect all the fees from the receiver.

If Reaper just mails the box via USPS, then I will only have to pay the 5% tax on it. There are no other fees involved either for them or for me.

If they mail it via UPS then there will be about $40.00 more in extra charges that will need to be paid. Even if they do pay all these fees to UPS, and UPS charges me nothing (unlikely) my question is why? They can save themselves (and me) a lot of money by just using USPS. USPS is very reliable (as is CanadaPost). Sure it may take a few more days to arrive, but I've already waited this long, a few more days does not bother me in slightest.

Also, UPS charges those fees regardless of whether they deliver to your doorstep or not. They make 1 attempt to deliver (of course during the daytime when I am working). I then have to pick up the package at their main depot at the airport. (So now I have to add the cost of my time and fuel to the tally).

In summary: UPS = BAD!!! Reaper, please don't do it!

I have to agree with Kor, UPS is just going to backfire and be costly.

Liberty's Edge

Wow, I had no idea! I wonder why UPS does that? Nothing like that happens in the US. In fact, UPS here is quick efficient and has easy staight forward pricing - shipper pays a couple bucks to ship a package, package arrives at destination, done,

Does UPS have facilities in Canada or are all deliveries coming across the border?

We all have a huge paint job ahead of us, and are going to need some inspiration, and many people will need helps/tips on how to do the best paint job they can. To help with this, I just created a flickr photo pool so people can share their paint jobs and give each other ideas.

I started it off with my first (Trista, Female Warrior #77094): http://www.flickr.com/groups/reaper_bones/

Marc Radle wrote:

They do have many facilities in Canada. They also have many UPS shops all around the cities. (It would be nice if they were unable to make the delivery, if they then just dropped the parcel off at the local UPS, similar to how the post office does it -- but they do not).

My last experience with UPS:

Last year I bought an item and I paid $35.00, plus shipping costs of $35.00 to the US company. These were very high shipping costs, but the item was fragile (plate sized), and it was a gift. I normally always check shipping methods to ensure a company doesn't use UPS, but in this instance I forgot... of course and Murphy's Law had to come into effect.

I was home sick on a Friday and UPS showed up at my door with the parcel. They hand it to me, and tell me that they have to collect around $20.00 in "handling fees". After the bulging vein in my forehead stopped throbbing, I found myself perplexed. I found myself asking, do I just close the door on this guy and tell them have fun collecting, or do I just pay the extortion cost and accept it as my punishment for not reading the shipping terms of my online purchase. (Since it was a present, giving the item back was not an option to me on this occasion).

In the spirit of the coming holidays, I told him alright and I went to my closet and grabbed the exact amount of money to pay for the extortion costs. I handed it to the driver and he told me that UPS does not accept cash. He asked me if I had a credit card. Feeling particularly witty at the time, I told him that I did, but that I charge a $20.00 service charge to process transactions on it. I told him that I only accepted cash for the fee. He said he couldn't do that and that he would need to take the package back.

Remaining completely cordial I told him the package was now in my lawful possession. He looked quite stunned by this. Perhaps he realized he broke some rule about not giving the package until money is collected (I'm not sure if UPS has such a policy, but it would help to explain the stunned look). I was trying to jar the 20 year old recesses of my business law studies to recollect if a business could lawfully refuse legal tender. Perhaps he was perplexed at how difficult yet calm I was being. I knew it was not "his" policy to extort me and refuse my cash, so I wanted to ensure he knew that my issue was not with "him".

Alas, a moment of clarity struck him and he said he would need to call his supervisor. After a 2-minute long conversation, his supervisor permitted him to take my cash.

Although I feel like I won a small victory against UPS, they still managed to suck the extortion money from me. I did do some research after that and I found a link that told me how I can file all the required Customs paperwork needed to ship the item across the border, which should either reduce or negate the ability of UPS to extort me. However, I find it much easier to just tell shippers to use USPS. The only paperwork involved is filling out a few lines on a little 4-inch x 4-inch customs label that is affixed to the package. A whole lot easier than the UPS method, and incurs less costs for the receiver.

CanadaPost only pursues the tax on non-gift items that are over a certain dollar amount. This amount used to be $25.00, but I am unsure what it is now. So this means either the package arrives with me having to pay anything, or if over the amount, then I have to pay 5% of the declared value of the item as tax.

They do the same things to international orders. I shipped a guy $250 in card game material and when it arrived they asked him for $200 in duties. You could imagine how angry that customer was. I'll never use UPS (internationally) again without a very long debate.

Just a reminder that DCM kickstarter is ending in a couple of hours and it has a 260 bundle of bases (230 medium, 20 large, 10 huge) for $50. Don't regret missing this.

Dark Archive

My order was for me a a few friends, I was one of the very first to pledge but added more after the kickstarter ended.

Vampire x3 $300
Red Dragon x2 $10
Mister Bones x1 $1
Starter Paint Set x2 $36
Spider Centaurs x2 $20
Heroes x1 $6
Demons x1 $15
Fire Giant Warriors x1 $10
Nethyrmaul x1 $25
Klocke Classics x1 $4
Figure Case x1 $25
Ebonwrath x1 $10
BBEG x1 $5
Fire It Up! x2 $10
Haunts x1 $6
Kaladrax Reborn x1 $10
Cthulu x1 10

About $540 in miniatures. I have friends who already have their Vampires but mine have yet to arrive.

The trouble is one of the guys who plays PFS with us seems to have disappeared.

He had a Vampire and case. I had not asked for payment because I felt that I could trust him enough tom wait for the miniatures to arrive.

Any ideas how best to sell off a Vampire set?

Also I had no intention of getting a case, but if you guys think it's a good quality case I would consider keeping it. I already have a few storage cases, I just wanted your opinion of this container.

The other problem is my friend who was going to paint some these minis for me in exchange for a Vampire set and paints leaves for overseas in a week. When the delivery date was expected in March I had thought even with a two month delay as a buffer, that would leave two months for him to get to paint some of those minis.

I'm not complaining, I'm very laid back, but the delay did cause some issues.

I'll take the spare case! I'm kicking myself for NOT getting one. PM me and we can work out payment details.

They just started a new kickstarter.

I'd love it if we could contain the discussion of the second one to the other thread dealing with it. :-)
