Gencon is starting. This is gonna explode. I can't wait to see the 1M stretch goal.
I hope it does. With Reaper not being there (as far as I know), I hope that people at Gencon hear of this word-of-mouth. Otherwise folks away from home might not get clued in until next weekend, which would be too late.

The more people that sign on, the further the stretch goals have to be spaced. Remember they are eating a bunch of the shipping costs etc... They have to be very careful to make sure they aren't taking too big a loss on each vampire pledger. If it turns out like the sedition wars one with 10k+ people and they don't do that then it actually turns into a money losing proposition.

I just hope they don't overdo the stretching of the stretches for the stretch goals.
50k now between consecutive rewards...
With each stretch goal they need to make sure that they are making enough to pay for all of additional models they will sell. As their number of backers grows, they need to increase the distance between stretch goals to meet that need.
But I wouldn't worry too much. They are adding people every day and their average pledge per backer is going up.

That's not entirely accurate. Getting to the Crypt was 50k, but the two goals after the Crypt (including the current goal) were both 40k. Getting to Pathfinder will be 50k, but the goal after that appears to be another paint set, which I suspect will be well below 50k (both of the previous paint sets were short goals).

Are you sure about another paint set? The two sets already available for $18 each have been revealed for awhile now. Are you seeing a third paint set?

Short Historian, like you have no experience in painting miniatures. However, my wife and I plan to take this oppurtunity to paint a lot pf miniatures and become capable at painting. We're both naturally artistically inclined so it may be easier for us. We've watched YouTube videos and read guides to understand the processes of painting from priming, applying a base coat, washing and drybrushing. We're going to start with the skeletons and less detailed monsters and slowly work through them to become better so we can tackle the more complicated models. At $100 for curently 105 Bones miniatures, its a steal.
And the above is precsely why this is a Kickstarter that has spread far beyong its intended target core audience of current customers.
When people see a value to good to pass up, you can achieve unexpected success in the marketplace from non-traditional customers.
I wouldn't have thought it possible, but clearly, I was mistaken.
A Kickstarter for a niche-of-a-niche product which can become a marketing outreach to entirely new customers is ... well ... that's a pretty remarkable success story.

Also a great thing about this is that the more people that contribute, the better the deal is for the people already in it. This makes the people already invested in it want to try hard to recruit others to join.
Yeah the next thing to be revealed will be paints of some types [and ...].
Now I'm staring at the other things and I don't know if I'm actually seeing a pattern or my mind is trying to organize the light and dark areas into something meaningful.
For example, the 2nd to last sarcophagus, clearly has horse shoes on it, probably meaning some kind of mounted minis. On the other hand it seems to me the one next to the paint bottle has a woman's or elf's face on the shield, but I can't decide if I am really seeing that or if my mind is playing tricks on me.

This is pretty much me. I'm certainly artistic, and I used to paint metal minis a little back in the days of AD&D (Ral Partha etc) but I stopped painting LOOOONG ago. Moreover, I had no desire to start again - prepainted plastic minis were my choice for gaming.
However, this Kickstarter has pulled me in so much that now I really want to get back into the hobby and start painting, but this time I want to try the plastic minis.
I plan on jumping in whole hog - vampire level plus the paints and a number of the vampire-level optional minis.
As soon as Reaper adds a PayPal pledge option, that is :)

I see some spiders which might mean drow :)

I believe that you can buy amazon gift cards and use those for kickstarter. Not sure how though.

Anyone else pay attention to Kicktraq. It posts projections and estimates about kickstart campaigns. Currently they are estimating the campaign to end between 830K-1,280K. Bones is a wierd one because it shows a growth curve instead of leveling off.
There is also a strange hockey stick effect that comes in the last 3 or so days for miniature / rpg kickstarters.
Robert Hawkshaw |
The goal after goblins is a short 20k hop, and will be two paint sets, #4 which is good for sci/fi and chronoscope and #3 which is just a well rounded addon, metallics, washes, sealer.

Pathfinder Bones. Unmitigated awesome, conveniently packaged in goblin-sized chunks.
Not to mention the Red Dragon.
I'm going to have to start tallying up just how many of the extras I can afford to add to my Vampire Level support. And then I will need to really work on getting faster at painting. Because 120 minis aren't going to paint themselves :)

You should see the madness that happens on the final days of a miniature kickstarter. There are a lot of folks out there who for some reason like to treat them like ebay auctions and only jump in at the last minute.
This kickstarter for example had close to 10k come in the final hour:

The mantic kickstarter and the sedition war kickstarter had the same thing happen.

I'm praying this gets to the $1million mark. I would just love it if they could get 3333% of their goal!
If they can keep up the momentum of the lst few days, which I think they can, they will easily pass 1M. If the remaining 8 days were equal to the lowest of the last 5 days, they would pass 1M, and today has almost already hit twice that.
Green Left Eye |
Today has been the first day to top $100k. I'm wondering if they'll be able to sustain this level to the end.
Every time I look at what you get at the Vampire level, it gets more ridiculous. I would not be at all surprised if, before this thing is done, the Vampire level works out to under $0.50 per mini. I've increased my pledge to two Vampires and a bunch of add-ons. The quality of the optional buys has forced me to revise my purchasing strategy; I'm dropping some of the dragons that I'd planned to buy (how many dragons do you really need?) in order to afford some of the cooler options.

I finally sold my wife on this a week ago, was able to put the financing (and time) together to back it last night and now...my wife calls me every hour or so with an update and is so geeked out about this that I am starting to second guess my backing...
oh who am I kidding, I am loving every minute of it!!!
I am now having to convince her that she doesn't need her own Vampire level...

This really is a great chance to start painting if you have never painted before. There are some great tutorials on youtube as well. I reccomend Girlpainting for tutorials. She has a ton of videos. Some basing videos and terrain creation as well. You can get dragons which in metal would cost you upwards of $70 each or a pair, and during the KS they are $10 bucks for lg singles and the pair! After the KS i expect the price to go up to a regular retail which im guessing would be upwards of $20 each.
They unlocked driders today and are working on large elementals too.
(Ps the vampire level ($100) now contains 155 miniatures making each one .65 each)

Okay I went into $100 sponser. What level do I go to maximise minis
That seems to be the sweet spot.
Then you can pick and choose any 'extras' you want - oh and remember shipping!
Given the cap for me is $25 I should probably max out this offer really hard, normally just shipping a couple of minis gets close to that, let alone the smackton we have coming!
Hmmm maybe I might need a case to put them in too!?
