Need Help: Mounted Cleric

Advice

The Cheese: Let me just say this out front. This build revolves around getting the GM to approve a minor deity with domains: Feather and Tactics and Weapon Lance. You can also get here by taking a one level dip into fighter and doing a separatist cleric of Erastil.

Human / Cleric
NG

Str: 14
Dex: 14
Con: 14
Int: 12
Wis: 16 (14+2)
Cha: 8

Traits: Reactionary, Lastwall Calvary Rider

Skills: Perception, Spellcraft,Ride and
Points in various things.
Domains: Feather, Tactics
Equipment: Breastplate, Light Shield, Lance (assuming that you can do 2H damage with a 1h lance while riding), Morning Star (or Scimitar for dip in fighter options).

1: Power Attack, Mounted Combat
3: Ride by Attack
5: Spirited Charge
7: Boon Companion
9: Quicken Spell
11: Improved Shared Spell
13: Craft Wonderous Item
15: Shield Focus (Or mounted blade?)

Animal Companion: Basically the idea here is to pick a horse at 5 and upgrade to a Roc at 7.

Roc
1: Toughness
2: Light Armor Prof
3: Power Attack
4: Improved Natural Attack
5: Acrobatic
6: Combat Reflexes
Thoughts: If I played an aasimar I could give the mount the celestial template, but would loose a feat.

Taking a one level dip in fighter would gain a feat, plus martial prof and heavy armor.

Build lacks scribe scroll / UMD.
Some way to cast Phantom Steed would vastly help this character in situations where large creature are not available.

I'm not sure if the feat selection is optimized

Quote:
Weapon Master (Su): At 8th level, as a swift action, you gain the use of one combat feat for a number of rounds per day equal to your cleric level. These rounds do not need to be consecutive and you can change the feat chosen each time you use this ability. You must meet the prerequisites to use this feat.

Scarab Sages

The Heirloom Weapon trait could give you weapon proficiency with a lance - but only a single one. If your GM is lenient and lets you upgrade it without too much of a hassle, that could work if the minor god idea doesn't fly.

Another option is going half-elf and choosing the lance weapon proficiency through the alternate racial trait (ancestral arms). You'd take a big hit to HP or skill points, but you could also choose arcane training and pick wizard/sorcerer to get access to use phantom steed. You wouldn't have cleric as a favored class, but you wouldn't need a dip into another class. And if you have a GM that follows the "half-elves can take human feats" reasoning as here:

Benefit: Choose another humanoid race. You count as both human and that race for any effects related to race. For example, if you choose dwarf, you are considered both a human and a dwarf for the purpose of taking traits, feats, how spells and magic items affect you, and so on.

you could get your favored class back through the Eclectic human feat from ARG.

The separatist Erastilian would take the hit to getting the Weapon Master ability at level 10 though, as well as the -2 to Wis/Cha in regards to it's use - doesn't quite seem worth it, especially since you wouldn't get the longbow proficiency anyway.

One thing to be careful about is the need for Handle Animal checks to get your animal companion to act as you'd like. You get a +4 for your companion, but with the -1 and no ranks/class skill that'd be rough.

Edit- Another option if your GM doesn't like the new god idea, is to use Urazra. You'd have to choose animal or fur as your domain instead of feather, which I know sucks in regards to losing flight - but it'd be cannon and you could not be evil by being CN instead. It would be fun to come up with a story why a human or half-elf or aasimar is following the stone giant god of savagery!

Well it looks like you still get handle animal as a class skill from the animal domain. How high handle animal would be required?

as far as considering the large animal not possible. have a medium sized mount take the (growth) plant domain and use enlarge person on your mount to make him large when needed(share spell ability of animal companion).
