Inquisitor Bane Ability

I dont know if this has been asked and answered elsewhere, if it has I apologise in advance.

Does the bane ability of an inquisitor stack with a bane weapon?

THanks

Dark Archive

I would think not. Abilities of the same type do not stack.

Well, if it was Bane: Outsider(Chaotic), and your weapon was Bane: Outsider(Evil), and you attacked a Demon, it would stack.

True.

Both are essentially are unnamed bonuses, which share an ability name. So, IMO, they do stack.

No they don't stack. Not if you mean add bane twice to make a +1 weapon into a +5 weapon.

If the enemy is a chaotic evil outsider then a +1 weapon is still only a +3 weapon. In either case you are raising the enhancement of the weapon by 2.

One bane does it for evil creatures. The other bane does it for chaotic creatures.

It is like trying to climb to 10 foot ladders and trying to reach a height of 20 feet.

Bane weapon ability

Concerro might be right about the enhancement bonus not stacking, but the unnamed 2d6 extra damage would stack, since it is a straight bonus to damage without a designator.

Thanks for the info. I was mainly talking about the bonus damage not the +2.

Will run it by my gm and see how he will rule it

Good point. I never noticed that.

And I find the enhancement bonus wording a bit iffy, too, so I wouldn't be too sure that it doesn't stack.

Here is the thing. Let's say you have a +1 weapon. Bane makes it act like a +2 higher weapon for chaotic monsters. In short it is still really a +1 weapon.

Now lets say the monster is also of the evil subtype. The weapon is still a +1 weapon, but treated as +2 higher for this purpose.

the weapon's enhancement bonus is +2 better than its actual bonus.

The actual bonus is whatever the weapon's bonus. Both banes still reference the actual bonus.

Ah, you are right. I overlooked the "actual" bonus thing, which is pretty clear, since it is still an enhancement bonus being two higher with Bane. Thanks, that helps for my own campaigns!
