Getting racial spells on a scroll

Pathfinder Society

Silver Crusade 5/5 5/5 **

Race specific spells from the Advanced Races Guide are now legal in PFS play (as per the updated Additional Resources)

Can I purchase said race specific spells on a scroll? And/Or buy a scroll with Fame?

From a logic point of view spells specific to Tengu's should be incredibly rare and hard to obtain. But logic and PFS don't always totally coincide :-)

In case it matters, I'm specifically thinking of the Tengu Commune With Birds spell (yes, I have a racial boon allowing me to play a Tengu)

I believe the tengu character (the one with the boon) may buy them as scrolls.

To purchase a scroll with racial spells on it, you have to be of the appropriate race. So. If you want tengu spells on a scroll, you can only buy them if you are a tengu.

To create an aasimar, dhampir, ifrit, kitsune, nagaji, oread, sylph, tengu, tiefling, undine, or wayang character, you must have a Chronicle sheet that opens the race as a legal option at character creation.
Note:Alternate racial traits, racial archetypes, racial feats, and racial spells are only available for characters of the associated race. Racial equipment and magic items can be purchased and used by any race as long as the specific item permits it (for example, only halflings can purchase and use solidsmoke pipeweed).

So a Tengu could buy a scroll or potion of a tengu spell, but a human couldn't buy a scroll or potion of a tengu spell. Likewise a tengu could not buy a scroll or potion of a human spell.

EDIT: Huh, I never would have pegged you as a Ninja, Mike...

Correct. The human specific potions and spells in the Advanced Race Guide are for humans only.

And again before I could edit... Sneaky, sneaky... ;)

Now, there's nothing stopping say a dwarf from "loaning" a racial spell -potion to say a halfling for an adventure. There's nothing saying that other races can't use them, just can't buy them, correct?

That is correct. But, other races wouldn't be able to scribe a scroll into their spell book until they have a Chronicle that allows it.

Of course, if there is a racial prerequisite in the description, it can't be used by another race.

Right.

Yeah, there just happens to be a spell that I thought was perfect for our group's dwarf adopted halfling, the Iron Beard spell. He's described his armor as having a metal beard as part of his helmet and the spell was perfect. That's the reason I was a little bummed at the racial spells not being opened. He'd love potions of it. Of course, he'd really love it permanent, but that's another topic which we won't open. ;)

Wouldn't a halfling be obligated to cast that on their feet?

Nah, he considers himself a dwarf. Even wears boots!

Is a scroll not a magic item? Or does that mean "magic items other than scrolls?"

It means the racial "magic items" specifically listed in the different race's section in the ARG.

I don't remember seeing a spell scroll under any of the races sections.

Do half elves count as elf and human for buying racial spells?

Not for PFS purposes. They've got their own crack monkey half-elf spell they can use though.

Grand Lodge 5/5

I think the answer is that half elfs and half orcs do not count for human/elf/orc for Advanced Race Guide purposes due to the additional resources entry for that book. That also applies to books with similar entries.
