Quarry (Ex)

At 11th level, a ranger can, as a standard action, denote one target within his line of sight as his quarry. Whenever he is following the tracks of his quarry, a ranger can take 10 on his Survival skill checks while moving at normal speed, without penalty. In addition, he receives a +2 insight bonus on attack rolls made against his quarry, and all critical threats are automatically confirmed. A ranger can have no more than one quarry at a time and the creature's type must correspond to one of his favored enemy types. He can dismiss this effect at any time as a free action, but he cannot select a new quarry for 24 hours. If the ranger sees proof that his quarry is dead, he can select a new quarry after waiting 1 hour.

Ranger archetypes like the Wild stalker, Warden and Freebooter loose favored enemy, but still retain Quarry and improved quarry, so how is this suppose to work if the Quarry ability is dependent upon favored enemy? Possible errata, FAQ? Or has this been answered somewhere and I haven't found it?

Bump

magic i got nothig

put it on FAQ too, probably an oversight, hope if Paizo got some time they give them something nice in return, like they modified the scar hex.

Or they left it open for the possibility of a horizon walker, with terrain mastery that counts for favored ennemy. But that seems far fetched.

This is how I'd house rule it. When you achieve Quarry you get to select 3 favored enemies for it apply to. You get no bonus for the favored enemies though. At level 15 and 20 you can select another favored enemy to add to Quarry list.

The Freebooter seems like an easy fix, as RAW the Freebooter's bane replaces favored enemy, so it's not the same, but most DM's I know would rule this to work the dame as favored enemy.

It is the Wild Stalker and Warden who don't even have the Favored enemy ability or anything comparable. Do they get other ability like a Tetori monk? was it an over sight? Is there something I am missing?

Can't you still acquire a Favored Enemy from other sources? Isn't there a spell?

Bump.

Necro'd. This was marked as answered. I don't find that answer anywhere. I know the martial artist got a replacement for abundant step, what about quarry for non FE rangers?

I thought this was about the rock kind of quarry and got disappointed.

You've lost your marbles.

Gneiss joke, a real gem, in fact. You crag me up.

But schist, are you telling me we can't get our rock on? That's flinty-hearted, man. Don't leave me between a rock and a hard place, it feels like you're taking me for granite. It really makes me feel like I've hit rock bottom. Shale we kill two birds with one stone and make this thread about the ranger ability and masonry both?
